Prayer Requests 10-17-20

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 68:1-6

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
    may his foes flee before him.
May you blow them away like smoke—
    as wax melts before the fire,
    may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad
    and rejoice before God;
    may they be happy and joyful.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
    extol him who rides on the clouds;
    rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
    is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
    he leads out the prisoners with singing;
    but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

  1. Karen, I always pray for your family. FWIW, children have so little power and sometimes seem to need to push where they can push. I think for Boy one of those ‘places’ is with you; trying to get a reaction. Are there any sports figures or other role models that Boy really looks up to who have a strong Christian witness? Mentioning them may give a counterpoint to the nonbeliever ideas.

    I listened yesterday to Family Life Today on the radio, which featured a podcast by Unfavorable Odds. It was another story of someone who seemed destined for a life without God and yet…
    Such stories are so inspiring. They can also be so instructive of how the right timing is so important.

    My heart goes out to you.

  2. Kathaleena – Thank you for your prayers, and also thank you for reminding me of that perspective of children sometimes “pushing”, which is usually done to those they love and trust the most, ironically.

    I’m not sure about the sports figures he may like, but I do know that one of his favorite YouTubers is a Christian. I’ll have to remind him of that.

  3. Our former regular Tammy has privately shared with me that her mother has a medical issue (interstitial lung disease due to RA complications) that will eventually lead to her death, but the greater concern is that her mom has shut down, expecting to die soon, and so not taking care of herself, just sitting around, depressed, and waiting to die, while fearing it, too. Tammy’s other Facebook friends may have noticed that she has been sharing inspirational quotes each day, and tagging her mom (Charlotte) in them. Today she posted this:

    “Friends,
    I have removed my mother from this post, and am also limiting the post to praying friends. I am asking for prayer for my mother and our whole family. She is slowly dying. Mind you, while it was going to happen anyway, some choices have been made along the way that have sped things up.

    But, it is still a long and very distressing process. She is slowly shutting down due to lack of movement, poor eating, poor drinking, and a very poor attitude (and, while attitude can’t save you necessarily, it can make things so much better and can help a lot with physical health). She is also dying of interstitial lung disease due to RA complications, but that is not what is actively killing her right this minute. 🙁

    It means that I am highly stressed too. Along with the fact that I started hybrid schooling/childcare (in person) this last week, I’m tired! (It means that we are doing childcare for many children at school while providing an education both for the children at school AND the children online. It’s a lot to plan for, and I am going to school daily and coming home quite bushed!)

    At any rate, for those of you inclined, would you please pray for my mother and my family (extended too)? We realize that this is part of living, but it is still very distressing and very uncomfortable for everyone.

    Most of all, I would love for my mother to have peace of mind and comfort. She is so very afraid of dying, even though she has confessed Christ her whole life. And, I don’t know how to help.”

  4. Prayers — that sounds like a condition Carol’s friend from her former church has — I’m in touch with him as he had taken such a special interest in Carol’s plight and has been very good to her, but for the past few years has been very ill as his lungs continue to lose function; he’s at a stage 5 (out of 10), he tells me, and now has to be on permanent oxygen, tires out very easily.

    He was on the city council of his city some years ago, serving as mayor also, and has long been active in the LMS church but of course can’t attend now due to his condition & to Covid. He has a couple of adult sons who are taking good care of him. He enjoys sending happy, upbeat good-morning “GIFs” to Carol most days.

    Pray for his spiritual well-being, his physical and mental comfort and his stamina, and that doctors will find new treatments to improve his quality of life.

  5. I had a call today from Carol’s residential administrator (Los Feliz) who says she will contact Carol’s MD, she doesn’t think it will be a problem to get Carol’s PT extended with a written order from the doctor. That’s good news as she needs to be able to walk before they can take her back in — and without PT, that isn’t happening.

    Pray that this is God’s will and is the best thing for her — and that the doctor will agree to write that order and Medicare will cover it. If not, that there will be another clear way forward for her future placement in a good place.

  6. I had planned to go to church this a.m. but have had a visual migraine so did not go. I have had a few in the past so knew what was occurring. Prayers that it is nothing more and that I soon feel better. Thank you.
