This is the thread for all things news.

Oh boy.

From ForeignPolicy.com

“The U.S. has lost track of some of Syria’s chemical weapons, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Friday, and does not know if any potentially lethal chemicals have fallen into the hands of Syrian rebels or Iranian forces inside the country.

“There has been intelligence that there have been some moves that have taken place. Where exactly that’s taken place, we don’t know.” Panetta said, in a Pentagon press briefing.”

Oh wait…… Found em’!

From IsraelNationalNews

“The Supreme Military Council of the Syrian rebels released on a statement on Tuesday which said that the rebel forces took control of an army missile base in Damascus, in which ten ready-to-launch missiles were found. Some of the missiles, according to the statement, were converted to carry non-conventional warheads.

“During the successful operation, the operatives of the Free Syrian Army found a large number of rockets ready for launching, with enormous destructive capability, and they were very surprised to find missiles that were converted to carry non-conventional warheads and which can be equipped with chemical or biological warheads,” said the statement which was translated by Arab affairs expert Dalit Halevi.”

Update

Yeah, I know I’m beating the horse on this issue, but the horse isn’t quite dead yet!

From Newsbusters.org

“Knowing that   exit polling has historically overestimated the Democratic vote and knowing how much the final regular polling in the 1980 race understated  Ronald Reagan’s support compared to Jimmy Carter, it is worth looking at  what the final poll results said in other presidential election years.

The facts show a similar trend in a pro-Democratic direction almost  uniformly. Historically speaking, pollsters have underestimated how many people  would vote for the Republican presidential candidate:

“Writing at National Review, reporter Jim Geraghty quotes an anonymous pollster  who provides a  helpful review of past polling data:”

What’s news today?

Two things are bothering me this morning.

The first one.

It’s time to go. Like now. You can’t put soldiers in harms way and tie their hands like this. Have we learned nothing?

From Michael Yon Combat Journalist/Former Green Beret

“Yesterday a concerned father forwarded to me a letter from his son in Afghanistan. I confirmed authenticity, and republish with permission:

“I am fed up. I cannot believe the lack of attention the recent changes in this war is receiving by the media or the country. I think I saw one thing on CNN about the following subject, but I had to dig extensively to find it. The purpose of this letter is to let you know of the garbage that our soldiers are going through right now. With this knowledge, I hope that you take action by writing your congressmen.”

“Do not buy into what the some media outlets have already said about this. Casually saying that this is a frequent occurrence is false, and is an attempt to downplay the major ramifications for these decisions. We have never been so restricted in defending ourselves as we have now. This is not just a stand down.”

And this one.

Really, who do they think they’re kidding? OK, I get that technically it’s a violation, but really?  If not for the film I doubt they’d bother.

From CNN

“Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the man allegedly behind the inflammatory film “Innocence of Muslims,” was ordered held without bail Thursday after being arrested in California and accused of violating his probation.

Handcuffed and chained at the waist, Nakoula appeared in a federal court in Los Angeles on Thursday for a preliminary bail hearing.”

“Prosecutors asked that Nakoula be sentenced to 24 months in prison for the probation violations. His attorney, meanwhile, countered that the judge should set bail at $10,000.”

I guess there’s more than one way to silence him, and of course to placate the rioting hordes as well.

Yeah, that’ll work……

News/Politics 9-27-12

This is the News thread for whatever news you’d like to talk about.

What do you think of this?

From CBN

“Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition has now begun dropping their presidential voter guide into key battleground states.”

“They are sending this out to roughly 17 million social conservatives that they have identified in their extensive voter file. It is being delivered by mail, email, text message, to churches and door-to-door. When people receive the voting guide in the mail, they can scan the bar code into their smart phone where a video begins to play that sums up the candidates positions on the issues.”

Here’s an interesting read on polling.

“Which polls are, or aren’t, legitimate?”

This is the News thread.

What story in the news is on your mind?

Say it with me now, “You have to pass it……..”

From Investors Business Daily

“During his first run for president, Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term.

But it turns out that family premiums have increased by more than $3,000 since Obama’s vow, according to the latest annual Kaiser Family Foundation employee health benefits survey.”

Also,

From the Washington Examiner

“A majority of small business owners and manufacturers are mulling drastic changes to comply with Obamacare, with 21 percent set to drop health insurance to workers altogether and 38 percent planning to make employees pay much more.

In a poll done for the National Association of Manufacturers and National Federation of Independent Businesses, 59 percent said that they will have to consider changes once the full law kicks in because increased costs will jeopardize their operations. According to the poll, 67 percent expect Obamacare to raise healthcare costs.”

The Libya Situation

The President gave his speech to the UN. Strangely, he didn’t mention terrorism as the cause, yet mentioned the movie they’d like to blame numerous times. Weak. I’m sorry, but it is.

From the WashingtonTimes

“His expected campaign advantage on foreign-policy issues suddenly in doubt,  President Obama at the United Nations on  Tuesday portrayed the deaths of four Americans in Libya as a result of inflamed tensions over an  anti-Islam movie produced in the U.S. rather than a terrorist attack aimed at  his policies in dealing with the Arab Spring and Middle East unrest.

Although his administration in recent days acknowledged that the deaths of  Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens  and three others were caused by a terrorist act on Sept. 11,  Mr. Obama didn’t mention terrorism as the likely motive in front of an  international audience at the U.N.  General Assembly’s annual gathering. After referencing the killing of the ambassador, Mr. Obama focused much of his  speech on promoting religious tolerance and free speech, blaming the film for  provoking the anti-U.S. outbursts while saying there is never an excuse for  violence.”

Romney and Ryan have hit the President on the issue.

From RealClearPolitics

“”I think they want to do their very best to keep the people of America from understanding exactly what happened. We expect candor, we expect transparency, particularly, as it relates to terrorism,” Romney said.

“Why is he (Obama) not on the same page with his own administration officials who are saying that this is a terrorist attack? We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether it’s a coverup or not,” Ryan said.”

And now Senators are asking questions too.

From ForeignPolicy.com

“Two top senators on the Foreign Relations Committee don’t want to wait for the State Department to do its own investigation.com into the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens; they want Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to show them Stevens’s diplomatic cables and other correspondence now.”

“”While we appreciate the sensitivities associated with this ongoing investigation, we must insist on more timely information regarding the attacks and the events leading up to the attacks,” wrote Sens. Bob Corker(R-TN) and Johnny Isaakson (R-GA) in a letter to Clinton Tuesday.”
