That shot was taken here, but not by me. This guy has a fantastic camera, I just get to enjoy his pictures.
Morning, Chas. Two days left of this term. Still learning things about each child. They did much better on the computer testing than I expected. One child had a very surprising low score in math, but who knows what happened.
I could tell he was using professional grade lenses. The clarity of the shot, not to mention the close up at obvious distance, gives it away. It’s a great shot of a beautiful bird. Tell your friend his work is excellent. 🙂
Thanks, Aj.
I lost my post. Just bemoaning that there is now no one here to cut hair. I may have to learn how to cut my hair. I can trim my bangs, but this is getting desperate.
Morning! What an amazing photo up there this morning! Thanks so much for sharing Jo!!
I am off to the doctor’s appt this morning and then just might find some diversion while in town to escape the noise around this house! 😊
Yesterday, daughter was hesitant to return from her visit from town as there was an escaped jailer walking on the road. And he kept sticking his thumb out when a car passed. And lots of police cars with lights flashing. A friend’s parent told her to pedal fast but she did not think that a good idea. Eventually, she did so and whoosh, she made it past him even though he picked up a stone.
I pointed out that jailers are actually the ones who keep people in jail and rarely escape. And though it might have been an escaped prisoner, the passing police would have stopped and picked him up as he was the only walker along the road. More likely, he was a released prisoner walking back to Kamiah, about twenty miles away. A lot of them do. Sometimes people, like my husband, give them a ride. And the police activity was probably just the usual sheriff deputy activity because the deputies have a lot of ground to cover and not that many deputies Especially since the ones in Kamiah quit and these guys have to cover it all. Anyway, she made it home and did not blow up from the excitement. She was worried about that.
It feels like fall this morning. I have a late meeting to cover and have to head into the office this afternoon for a few hours first to get some help on how to find, process and transfer photos via an online platform that stumps me. 😦 It’s more complicated because there are 2 different systems to handle photos — one for print editions and another for digital. I’m a reporter, not a photo editor. We’re ‘all’ things these days, they keep adding more and more tasks to our jobs.
I should try to get in for a bangs trim this morning — I also want to get some things hauled out of the patio, put the finishing paint touches on the bench so I can finally move that into place up against the house, and figure out what other patio pieces I need to paint. I think, for now, just a long plant-stand table on wheels that’s white and came with the house. White anything doesn’t look great anymore with this house. The cedar wood table and 2 chairs are 20+ years old, from Target, and those all need to be either stained or maybe painted (probably stained). Someday. But I think I’ll start with a scrub-down with a deep, wood cleaner like Murphy’s Oil followed by a sealant-conditioner, maybe that’ll do wonders and be enough for now. Any recommendations? The furniture is a bit wobbly and dried out, with at least one stain from a leaky insect repellant spray can, but otherwise, with some new chair cushions, is still cute & quite usable.
And I need to drop off some (a lot of) used printer ink cartridges for recycling at the Office Depot — and then buy some more ink. The printer is as hungry as the cat.
I was up late last night, until about 12:30 — and the police helicopter was thumping overhead right before I went to bed, I see on our website this morning that someone was shot to death near the neighborhood park, suspect at large — but I did sleep good after that, I was tired following what was a frustrating work day. And Cowboy, too, although he still does some of his nighttime pacing.
My week also is bottlenecking into the latter half with several interviews, a night meeting to cover and a staff meeting that’ll take up all of Thursday afternoon w/the travel time jamming up the last 3 days — with very little time to actually write the 3-4 stories I still need to get done (but can’t do until after some of those scheduled interviews and tonight’s meeting).
Remember yesterday’s photo of Heidi with her hair all messed up? You should see her when she’s been out rolling around in the yard, and ends up with leaves or twigs stuck to her hair. So funny and cute!
The other day Cowboy was scratching himself in some ivy in the back and when he looked up he had a long, trailing ivy branch draped over the top of his head.
That is a spectacular flight shot. I’ve had limited “luck” with flight shots partly because of little practice. Especially when the bird is headed toward you, it will change focus constantly, and will be by you super quick. I do a whole lot better with birds going across the lens, and even then I don’t get many of the ones I try for. By the time I have zoomed in enough to get a good shot, the bird has made a lot of flight progress and it may well be into the trees. Getting a bird flying around inside a tree has been a more likely catch for me, and even that is usually largely luck. (I try to get a photo as it is leaving a branch or landing.)
I did have a super-good day birdwatching this morning, though. I started with accidentally flushing a great blue heron, ended by watching a red-tailed hawk that was in a tree across the street from the pond–it flew about three times, but no, I didn’t get any flight shots–and in between were a flying pileated woodpecker and lots of warblers, catbirds, cardinals, goldfinches, chickadees, titmice, downy woodpeckers, vireos, and more. At least one new-to-me species, and a pretty one, a redstart. I love migration season!
When I was writing about the current problem with X not agreeing to the custody agreement they’d worked on in August, I forgot to mention that by not agreeing to that – and still being on the summer visitation schedule – he has a little less time with Boy than if he had signed the next agreement. But there is some sticking point that he wasn’t going to budge on.
Kizzie all I know of him is that he writes many books none of which I have read! Having said that however I have never heard any negatives associated with him…well except for some from the left side of the aisle 😊
Kizzie, I haven’t heard anything about Max Lucado that has given me any interest in reading his books. So I’ve never read him, and never felt I lost anything thereby. More specifically, I don’t know.
Is he still writing? I hadn’t heard his name in quite a while.
I haven’t read anything of his either, from what I recall. I believe he was known for writing very emotively and may have taken some criticism on that point (in as much as that can sometimes embellish biblical passages)? Seems like I’d heard some cautions about him but nothing suggesting he was unsound, per se, only that he may not be the best source for devotional material.
I’m really enjoying Tripp’s most recent (I think?) daily devotions, “A Shelter in the Time of Storm” – meditations on Ps. 27.
Frustrating. Just confirmed that thirteen is continuing his life of crime. We suspected he had been stealing from the neighbor’s mailbox while out walking the dogs. Today, while looking for a different missing item in the most obvious spot, I found a watch that he had not had. A month ago we found a package to the neighbor, emptied and buried under the gravel. And in the intervening weeks, several items of mail. We have tried to make it clear to these children that taking from somebody else’s mailbox is a federal crime with big consequences. But I am afraid I will have to be the one providing them as the neighbor is not interested in pursuing it. Good because juvenile detention would not be good for this boy. But, let me think…., I believe I know of some trenches I need dug….and some rocks I need moved. Not to worry, he will be getting some exercise, though he can’t walk the dogs anymore.
Now that is a majestic looking bird.
I wonder how Jo got it to pose for that shot.
Good evening Jo.
Good morning everyone else.

Good morning. A light rain this morning, very refreshing. It is amazing how much more needy people get after they turn eighteen.

Okay, she has flipped back and no longer wants to call the deputies to tell them how mistreated she is.
