Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 119:17-32

17 Be good to your servant while I live,
    that I may obey your word.
18 Open my eyes that I may see
    wonderful things in your law.
19 I am a stranger on earth;
    do not hide your commands from me.
20 My soul is consumed with longing
    for your laws at all times.
21 You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed,
    those who stray from your commands.
22 Remove from me their scorn and contempt,
    for I keep your statutes.
23 Though rulers sit together and slander me,
    your servant will meditate on your decrees.
24 Your statutes are my delight;
    they are my counselors.

25 I am laid low in the dust;
    preserve my life according to your word.
26 I gave an account of my ways and you answered me;
    teach me your decrees.
27 Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
    that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.

  1. Prayer for husband, he has been in significant discomfort this trip. His hands especially have been hurting. His next infusion is in a week and a half. Which means he needs to get back across the country.

  2. I think I need prayer. No, I know I need prayer. I have a chronic sinus infection which simply does not clear up. 14 days of strong double antibiotics didn’t touch it. It is ongoing and I have a low grade fever all the time. My migraines have flared up (I am thankful for medication that takes care of the headache within an hour or two, but I am so exhausted and the rest of me hurts for over 24 hours after a migraine). I want to work on the kitchen reno, but I have to take so many breaks because I feel so tired all the time. I need to exercise, which I know will help with my sleep, but I’m too exhausted to do much more than go to work all day and then collapse on the couch when I get home. I’m missing church again this morning because I feel so awful, yet I was so looking forward to going (this will be the third week in a row I’ve not been there). I don’t have depression so that is not a part of this but I am very discouraged. Perhaps I feel it more so this morning because I only had 4 hours of sleep. Thanks.

  3. Praying with you, Kare, that is discouraging. Allow yourself to stop. Focus on the Lord and praying for us. We will pray for you and yours and may God be glorified.

  4. Prayers, Kare. Feeling crummy for a long time and lack of sleep each are hard; put them together and it’s quite miserable. Hoping you get to feeling well and rested soon, and for endurance through those trials.

  5. Praying for Kare and Idaho Mike.

    Would like to ask for prayer for my friend K who is dealing with some home repairs by herself (with her brother who lives with them) due to lack of finances to hire anyone. She’s always been a hard worker and doesn’t shy away from physical labor but she’s in her 60s and had back surgery a few years ago & also has occasional heart irregularities, so I know that shoveling three feet under the backyard to try to dig out vine roots can’t be good for her. Pray that a worker and the money can be found to help them out with this chore.

    Also, Carol remains in the rehab center going on more than 3 weeks now (following a full week in the hospital). She’s getting PT but they are only getting her to walk down the hall, she seems to be making very slow or little progress.

    And the Occupational therapist is supposed to be getting her back up and to the restroom but that hasn’t happened and she told me she still has a diaper rash that’s now weeks old. I think I’ll send an email to her residence to push someone to be more proactive in getting her back up and taking care of herself, at the very least using the restroom again.

    She’s been in the hospital and rehabs frequently over the past several years, but this stay seems inordinately long — of course, I realize her overall condition also is declining so that may be part of it.

  6. Friend K lives an hour away, otherwise I’d see if my gardener could help out and do it as a side job for a reasonable amount. They don’t have a gardener to ask but she said even a low amount would be a struggle for them; she had to retire from her teaching job a year early due to health concerns so money is scarce.

  7. Just sent an email to Carol’s residence administrator, hoping they’ll do a little more checking on what’s taking so long at the rehab — there may be nothing they can do, but I just don’t think she should still have that ‘diaper rash’ after this long a time.

  8. Prayer for a dear lady, B, in our church as her battle with terminal cancer draws to a close. Treatments weren’t working anymore, and she stopped them a few months ago. A friend who visited her this week (B had requested her friend come over to play her piano for her) reported that B’s homegoing to the Lord appears near at hand now.

    Pray for B’s husband, G, who also has a sister with cancer.

    Pray for B & G’s three adult children and the grandchildren, whom B was helping with homeschooling after her retirement a couple of years ago.

  10. There are a ton of questions that come to mind reading about IdahoMike’s pain, but asking them would not help you or him in any way, Mumsee, so let me just say I’m praying that God will work it all out for good. And He will. I hope and pray that will be soon.

  11. So much to pray for . . . I am sad to not have as much time to pray as I did before. I was reminded of that in the church service this morning. The Faith candle was lit on the Advent wreath. The Pastor (an Associate) spoke about Zachariah and Elizabeth who waited so long to have a child and how they must have kept praying despite having lost faith in their old age of ever having a child. The Pastor was reminding us to keep praying. I just wish I could dedicate more time to it because it is of utmost importance.

  13. Janice – Remember that God knows what your life is like right now. Even the briefest of prayers, when offered in faith, is acceptable and pleasing to Him. I like that saying that the power of the prayer is in Who we pray to, not the prayer itself. (Not sure of the exact words, but I think you’ve probably read that before.)

  14. OK, Mumsee, here’s a brain dump of questions/thoughts that came to mind. (And some of these might be redundant with things you’ve already told us, but that I might not be recalling.)

    His hands especially have been hurting. His next infusion is in a week and a half.

    With the hands, and his arthritis, I think you mentioned he has or is suspected to have, might they be hurting more now because of colder temperatures this time of year? Is there some way to warm his hands that perhaps he’s not using now?

    Is the steering wheel vibration causing additional pain? Would a certain type of vehicle repair address excessive vibration? Is he traveling rougher roads? Would some alternate routes be doable in time?

    Has he been gripping the steering wheel harder, say on icy roads? (Or am I the only one who does that — tenses up while driving slippery roads?) I suspect he’s quite a bit more experienced at handling vehicles in any and every weather/road condition. But it came to mind, so I write it, knowing he might very well have a hearty laugh reading that thought of mine. 😉

    With the infusion, I think you mentioned there were notably bad side effects in the past (but maybe not as much after this most recent one he had)? Might his painful hands be a side effect of his most recent infusion? What already-existing problems are exacerbated by the infusions? What new problems seem to crop up after infusions?

    Have the medical personnel experimented with different ingredients in the infusion mix? Or different quantities while using the same ingredients? Can they in some way test for reactions beforehand, maybe by giving a small challenge first before going full-bore with the infusion?

    (By the way, I don’t know if “ingredients” in the previous paragraph is the right word. In fact, I really don’t know much of anything on this subject. That doesn’t seem to stop my curiosity and concern for what it is he’s experiencing, though.)

    I hope you can find something useful in that jumble, but most of all I hope for pain relief for your hubby.

  16. Good questions, Six, and I am the one who laughed out loud. Husband? I don’t think he even uses his hands on the steering wheel, he is too busy talking with them. And he will laugh because he thinks I am the only person on the planet who drives with two hands on the wheel.

    He does wear copper gloves which seem to have good heat retention and those do seem to help. He has several pair so he can wear them even when a pair is getting washed and almost all of the time.

    Because he is not an owner operator, he drives company trucks. A different one every time. I will ask him if he has noticed a difference. Some of the trucks are quite jarring but there is nothing he can do about that as they are not his.

    Grasping the steering wheel…tee hee…

    Infusion side effects, he did talk to his doctor prior to the last infusion, about the rash and itchiness, etc. The doc ordered him some anti itch cream and sent him in for the infusion. I am convinced that a lot of this is just guess work. They do use some chemo drugs so there are definite negatives. I will ask daughter the nurse for her take on that one.

    They have had to change his meds before due to serious complications.

    Thanks for putting out some good possibilities. As mentioned, it is all guess work so anything that might help, we appreciate.

    He has been given stronger meds for pain but that would require him to not drive so he does not use them. He has to get to the point where he is willing to make that choice on his own. I cannot feel how much pain he is in.

    But I continue to pray for him and ask others to join me in that. And for wisdom for him.

  17. And I in turn laughed out loud at your I don’t think he even uses his hands on the steering wheel, he is too busy talking with them. My husband likes to wordlessly pick on me and my penchant for talking with my hands by miming my gesticulations when I’m particularly lively with them, LOL.

    Most of the time when driving, though, my two hands are on the steering wheel. 🙂

    Anyway, definitely continued prayers for wisdom and relief for him, and for all of you at the nest.
