  1. I thought there would be a comment about the election already.
I don’t have a dog in this fight but it’s all the news last night and I suspect Kim is happy.
It does likely mean that Congress will get nothing done next year.
    Maybe just as well.

  2. From” The Hill” via Drudge.

“Several Hollywood stars are cheering on Democrat Doug Jones’s historic Senate win in Alabama, calling it a “real turning point” for the country.”
Sounds like bad news for America.

  3. Mueller’s office doesn’t want to talk about it. I wonder why?

    http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/12/fusion_gps_dossier_cabal_was_using_spy_tradecraft_to_evade_leaving_electronic_footprints_for_nsa_surveillance.html

“I suspect that we are in the process of uncovering the worst political scandal in American history, in which the most fearsome tool of federal government spying was turned against the Trump campaign. A cabal manipulated events behind the scenes to subvert the legal safeguards that are supposed to prevent such an abuse.

The National Security Agency (NSA) picks up and records almost all electronic communications, thereby effectively wiretapping telephone conversations, email, and practically everything else we send out electronically. When a FISA court permits “unmasking” of American citizens, that universal wiretapping capability can be used to spy on their conversations. It now appears that an elaborate plot was crafted to generate phony accusations of dirty ties to Russia that would be used to get a FISA court warrant to “unmask” members of the Trump campaign, and thereby enable spying on that campaign. We do not know how many members of that campaign were “unmasked” (i.e., spied on), but there are suggestions that the list ended up quite long.

Bit by bit, evidence is leaking out connecting the members of that cabal at senior levels of the Department of Justice and the FBI with shadowy operatives in the private sector.

Merely keeping track of everyone so far compromised is a challenge that casual news-consumers will not bother with with the necessary focus. The rest of us – those who care deeply about preserving the Republic bequeathed to us by the Founders – can catch up by reading Victor Davis Hanson’s up-to-date account of the web of backdoor relationships in the Mueller probe.”

“It has been suggested that both Peter Strzok and his illicit lover Lisa Page may have been involved in using the fake Russia dossier created by and for the Clinton campaign to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. If this is true, it is the biggest scandal in the history of American politics. Glenn Reynolds decided to go to the source and ask Mueller or his representatives whether these reports are accurate. I am taking the liberty of reproducing Glenn’s post in its entirety:

SO I JUST HAD AN INTERESTING EMAIL EXCHANGE WITH THE SPECIAL COUNSEL’S PRESS OFFICE:

    Me:

I’m hearing from a source that Lisa Page was involved in approving Peter Strzok’s warrant requests to the FISC and possibly elsewhere. Can you confirm or deny if this was the case? And please tell me what her job title and function are in your office. Thanks.

    Them (via spokesman Joshua Stueve):

Lisa Page, who was an attorney on detail to the Special Counsel’s office, returned to the FBI’s Office of the General Counsel in mid-July.

    Me again:

Thank you but that doesn’t answer my question. What role did Lisa Page have in the handling of warrant applications, and in particular those involving Peter Strzok?

    Them again:

    I’ll decline to comment further.

    Well, then.

Page, remember, is the FBI lawyer with whom Strzok was having an extramarital affair and exchanging anti-Trump texts. Perhaps someone with more resources than I will be able to get to the bottom of this.

The entire Mueller operation stinks. President Trump would be thoroughly justified in shutting it down, if that were politically feasible.”

  4. Douthat explains why 2018 is going to be a very bad election for Republicans and 2020 may be worse. There is nothing the Congressional Republicans can do about it. Their fate is in the hands of a lunatic. Look for more retirement announcements.

The only thing that can be done is to plan for what the shrunken Republican Party will look like in three years (or less) when Trump is no longer in office. Step One: Refuse to elect Trumpian pedophiles to the US Senate as Republicans. For that we can thank Kim and her friends in Alabama.

  5. Thanks to strategic errors by their Leader, The Trump Cult is now forced to fight a war on two fronts:
    1. Mueller continues to press forward with his investigation of collusion, Logan Act violations and obstruction of justice in the Trump/Russia matter.
    2. As one molester is defeated at the polls and other are forced to resign, Democrats are training their sights on The Big Molester and he is doing everything in his power to make himself as large a target as possible.

Trump Cult priests Hannity and Bannon may be forced to instruct cultists to stop defaming Mueller and turn their attacks to Gillibrand and the ladies assaulted by Trump.

It’s going to be bad because their base is abandoning them. Money alone won’t win them elections. They need voters, but are losing them due to their inaction, failure to accomplish anything, and general contempt for the people who put them there. They’ve lost millions of voters like me. And they can’t win without us.

And yes, at this point, there is nothing they can do that will change that reality. Their fate is in our hands, not Trump’s. They’d be better off with Trump. He’s more forgiving.

I fully expect more retirement announcements. They have polls, they know they can’t win in today’s climate. So they’ll slink away like cowards until they’re eligible to become lobbyists and can go back to serving their true masters.

Meanwhile, Trump will continue to live rent free in your head. It’s obvious that’s what’s going on here. You name call like a child at the mere mention of his name, both the President and anyone you even think might support him, insult is your clear intent, yet you keep telling us you’re better than him when he does it. You’ve become what you many times accuse him of being, which is unstable. You call him a lunatic, yet you’re the one with some kinda sick, Jodi Foster fixation/obsession thing going on with him. You’re obsessed. It shows, and it’s creepy, sad, and yet fun to watch, all at the same time.

You may now continue with your regularly scheduled whining.

  7. This is the plan for the future for conservatives and non-Trumpist Republicans from AEI, which along with The Heritage Foundation is one of the two big conservative think tanks in Washington. While I agree with much of what is said, I think the plan is doomed to fail due to the makeup of our population. Nevertheless, here it is:

  8. Ricky: You sound like the Leftists who are all pumped up in the belief that the ongoing FBI investigations (and to a lesser extent, the result from the Alabama election) will result in a complete collapse of the Trump Presidency. (A doubtful proposition, given the the depth of the corruption in the Obama admin. that is slowly being revealed.) They may be kicking up their heels far too soon.

FIRST: Let’s not forget the results of the premature celebrations of over a year ago when liberals were 100% certain of a Hillary victory. How can we possibly trust your 2018 and 2020 predictions, when more than a year ago you were consistently claiming that we would all be saying, “Madame President.”

SECOND: Regardless of what happens to Flynn, or to the President, or to his son-in-law, or to any member of Trump’s Cabinet; Donald Trump has already done the greatest service to the country that he could do (not to mention the Gorsuch SC nomination) – he kept Hillary from scoring a victory! For that, he deserves The Presidential Medal of Freedom.

  9. Tychicus, On the contrary, I am extremely pessimistic about politics. I am trying to enjoy the last 13 months of Republican control of Congress since I don’t expect the Republicans to regain control again in my lifetime. People under 45 voted overwhelmingly for Jones yesterday.

I would love to be wrong about 2018. However, if I am right I get two pounds of the best white chocolate in the world.

  10. Tychicus will understand this. The Republican Congress is Andre Roberson – good on defense, but no offense. If you don’t believe me, compare the first two years of the Clinton and Obama Administrations with the last six of each. The damage was done in the first two years of each. Once the Republicans took Congress both Clinton and Obama were effectively neutered.

This Republican Congress was elected to neuter Hillary. It could have done that job. It could be argued that no Congress could have been particularly effective playing offense under this president.

  11. Nah. If I was in a bad mood, you’d know it. 🙂

Remember, I’m the guy who wants to watch it all burn. You can’t build something new and better, until you bulldoze the old ruins. Right now I’m warming my hands by the smoldering remains of what used to be the Republican party. Between this, Trump throwing bombs at the press and Hollywood, and the sexual harassment scandal destroying careers on both sides of the aisle, and in the press and Hollywood, I’m pretty happy.

It’s not Mission Accomplished yet, but things are progressing nicely. 🙂

    https://hotair.com/archives/2017/12/13/another-ice-sweep-nets-illegals-triple-digits-time-new-jersey/

“t’s not as if President Trump and the Attorney General haven’t been telegraphing their punches when it comes to questions of illegal immigration. But all the warnings in the world don’t seem to be helping illegal aliens – particularly those who have run into additional trouble with the law – avoid capture and deportation in record numbers. That happened again this week as ICE pulled off another highly successful operation in the Garden State. New Jersey residents now have more than one hundred fewer illegal aliens roaming around, most of them with serious criminal records.

The Free Beacon picked up the story yesterday following an agency press conference. This was nothing but an unmitigated success.”
    ——

“Rape, assault, drug dealing, child pornography… they really ran the full gamut. Other operations taking place at the same time, particularly in Baltimore, targeted members of MS-13 and other gangs, removing drugs and illegal weapons from circulation. During comments delivered in Charm City, Jeff Sessions reminded everyone that sanctuary city policies were making law abiding citizens less safe and making it more dangerous for immigration officials to do their jobs. But that wasn’t going to slow them down.

There was also a less than subtle reminder that even illegal aliens who haven’t been convicted of any additional crimes would not be “safe” from detention and deportation if they were caught up in a sweep. We’ve arrested more than 300,000 illegal aliens just in 2017 and enforcement efforts are only going to increase if new funding requests for ICE and the Border Patrol are approved.

With so much dismal news eating up the front pages these days, it’s nice to see some positive progress on at least one front.”

  14. “It could be argued that no Congress” could have accomplished such and such with this president? I suppose that’s true if we believe in the Boogeyman, but in real town, this Congress gave away the farm all on its own.

  15. So an FBI agent meeting to disclose info and compare notes on the Trump investigation to partisan op researchers is now acceptable at the FBI? Apparently, yes.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/12/13/fusion-gps-admits-doj-officials-wife-nellie-ohr-hired-to-probe-trump.html

“A co-founder of the opposition research firm Fusion GPS acknowledged in a new court document that his company hired the wife of a senior Justice Department official to help investigate then-candidate Donald Trump last year.

The confirmation from Glenn Simpson came in a signed declaration filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., and provided a fuller picture of the nature of Nellie Ohr’s work – after Fox News first reported on her connection to Fusion GPS.

Her husband, Bruce Ohr, was demoted at the DOJ last week for concealing his meetings with the same company, which commissioned the anti-Trump “dossier” containing salacious allegations about the now-president. Together, the Fusion connections for Mr. and Mrs. Ohr have raised Republican concerns about objectivity at the Justice Department, and even spurred a call from Trump’s outside counsel for a separate special prosecutor.

Simpson’s statement shows Mrs. Ohr was indeed involved in the Trump research. He said bank records reflect Fusion GPS contracted with her “to help our company with its research and analysis of Mr. Trump.”

Further, Simpson said he disclosed to the House intelligence committee that he met personally with Bruce Ohr, “at his request, after the November 2016 election to discuss our findings regarding Russia and the election.”

Fox News first reported last week that Bruce Ohr had been demoted at the DOJ amid an ongoing investigation into his contacts with Fusion GPS. Evidence collected by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., indicates that Ohr met during the 2016 campaign with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the “dossier.” Additionally, as acknowledged in the court filing, he met with Simpson after the election.

Fusion GPS has attracted scrutiny because Republican lawmakers have spent the better part of this year investigating whether the dossier, which was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, served as the basis for the Justice Department and the FBI to obtain FISA surveillance last year on a Trump campaign adviser named Carter Page.”

  16. Based on what I posted, it’s an interesting question for me as I think/pray about the next Bible study I teach. How do believers live in a land that is spiritually oppressive and out of control with contentment and peace?

How did the Israelites building bricks in the desert maintain their faith in year 284 of the 400 year wait for Moses?

How did the believers in Babylon respond when sent their out of their beloved Jerusalem? And how did they teach their children to be in the world but not of that despicable world?

That’s what I think my aim needs to be. So what Bible book? Nehemiah? Jeremiah? Job? Suggestions? Here’s my list from the IVP Lifeguide studies: http://www.smallgroups.com/bible-studies/type/lifeguide-studies/?paging=off

  17. Michelle. A difficult subject because I believe that each person is responsible only his/her area of influence.
Everyone leaves a trail. That has been important to me since I was in the Air Force. I noticed a trail that a snail was leaving. It occurred to me that he was leaving more trail than some people.
And it doesn’t depend on or status in this world.
King Solomon was a great king. He is responsible for two books in the Bible. Yet, the trail he left was not lasting, but disastrous.
OTOH, there was a Pharisee from Tarsus’s. He had nothing going for him. A troublemaker. Was run out of most places he went. Was stoned and left for dead. Nothing good about his life.
Except for the trail he left.

I believe we are responsible for being a light in the situation we are placed.
I said before. In a totally dark room, the light from my clock radio casts a shadow.

  18. AJ ‘s post at 9:50 is a great, honest post. I think there are millions of Trump supporters who feel the same way.

That is why I am sympathetic to Paul Ryan. His job has been to simultaneously please and hold together:

    1. Traditional low tax and spending, free trade Reagan economic conservatives;

    2. Folks like Debra who are socially conservative, but anti-trade, anti big business and open to Bernie Sanders type ideas on healthcare;

    3. Trump supporters like AJ who want to see the existing Republican Party “burned to the ground”.

I would say that job is impossible, but I respect Ryan for giving it the Old College Try.
