Prayer Requests 8-22-14

It’s Friday, so don’t forget to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the nestlings.

And a Welcome Home! to Mike. 🙂

Psalm 54

¹Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.

Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.

For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.

Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.

He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.

I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O Lord; for it is good.

For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

  1. A few prayer requests here today:
One of the sixteen year olds may or may not have broken her elbow last night at the pool (don’t ask). And yes, Kim, your flying partner.
Another sixteen year old is still running to the bathroom.
Figuring out how to get husband picked up from the airport three and a half hours away. The highway is closed off and on for a big fire in the area and we had lots of lightning last night. The alternate route is five and a half hours. But we also got some rain last night so that should help with the smoke.
The pain from the shingles is wearing.
The pain from the eczema in my hands is wearing.
Enough whining but now you know some things to pray about.

Oh, and today the six year old turns seven!

  2. Thanks for letting us know, mumsee. It is nice to be able to pray specifically. I suffer from eczema myself and know how wearing it can be. On top of all the rest? Wooh!

  3. Thanks, KI, you are a great encouragement to me, not just when you are directly addressing me, but in your comments all around.

Donna, I may just give it a try….naaaaawww, the consequences would be more than I could tolerate.

    In addition to the earlier:
The seventeen year old was riding her bike from the swimming pool last night, to load it into the truck, and had no brakes. She smacked straight into the wall of the school and did a header into the wall as well. She was glad to be wearing her helmet. But I suspect she needs to buy a new one in addition to a new bike because she also bent the fork on the bike severely enough so the boys had to turn the front tire around for it to be rideable. The metal has been compromised so no riding it until properly inspected by dad. Other than some soreness, she is not injured.
And just in case that is not enough: the fifteen year old sleeps with a cat. No, not in the house. And the sixteen year old that is sharing space with him also had a cat with him. During the night, the other cat came over to sleep with fifteen year old. But that does not work because the two cats fight. One is a neutered male and the other is not because he disappeared for the vet appt. Anyway, a fracas started and fifteen year old leaped to save the cat. In the process, kicking a paint can. Why was he sleeping near a paint can? Good question, I asked him the same. He lost the majority of a toenail but rather than let it be, sixteen year old helped him perform surgery on it….
I do not make these things up. I need my husband home.
But really, in the big scheme of things, our life is bliss. Thanks for praying. And we are ever grateful to God for His care and intervention in our lives. Things really are good here. Even in the calamities.

  4. Chas, we have been laughing about it already. If these are the biggest problems we have with eleven adopted children, I will be quite happy. Okay, so there are a few others but they come with the territory.

  5. Oh, when I think of the stories I have about my brothers, let along myself, when we were young—mumsee’s stories make perfect sense. 😀

  6. KI, those are the stories that keep me allowing these children to do what they do. Memories of what my brothers did and what fine men they are now. I, of course, being a youngest, also have a pretty good idea what not to put up with from youngest.

By the way, the arm girl, the bike girl, and the toe boy are bio siblings.

  7. So, the highway is closed. It goes from a 175 mile drive taking three and a half hours to a 339 mile drive taking five and three quarters hours. And then there is the drive home again. I am glad I asked our shopper guy to go. And I hope the smoke clears so they can come back the short route. Thanks for praying.

  8. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for our senses of humor that get us through a multitude of mishaps and sometimes even tragedies. Laughter is good medicine and You are the Inventor of laughter. I have a cat asleep in my lap with her eyes open. Now that is funny. I looked it up to see if it is normal. Yep! I don’t know why You made that possible, but it is amusing.

Lord, I don’t want to sound like I make light of anyone’s troubles or desperate situations, but we all need that comic relief to relieve built up stress and tension. I pray any who are stressing out right now over the hurtful blows of life out of control may be given something that will give them a big belly laugh. I remember the stress when my father-in-law was in the hospital and on meds that had him confused. He thought the IV machine was a telephone because of the cord on it. We could have laughed or cried (not at him but over the absurdity of the situation). Thank You that our options were not limited to tears from crying. You are our most thoughtful God!

Lord, I have had limited time to be here this week, but as I prayed elsewhere I knew my friends here were covered by Your wings of protection, by Your hands of provision, and by Your grace and mercy found only in Jesus Christ. Who could give those basic needs other than You? Please do bless Jerusalem with peace while the world focuses to see what You will do despite how things look from our earthly viewpoints.

In the name of Jesus! Amen

  9. Husband has been picked up but we have not been able to find out if the road is closed. I guess they will just drive until they reach a roadblock then turn around and head the other way if they have to. I hope they don’t have to. They picked him up half an hour early, that is good. Thanks for praying. Now prayer that they make it safely through the fire area and the accompanying smoke. It is a deep canyon that holds the smoke in certain conditions. Thanks again.
