  1. Strange, strange dreams last night.

Donna made a post yesterday about Southern writers and or “talkers” and how descriptive they can be. Unfornuately we are losing some of that because we have been laughed at or told to get to the point point when dealing with “furr en ners”

I am not that descriptive anymore. Perhaps I should get back in touch with my inner Southern Belle.

  2. Good morning. We just found out yesterday that my sister and her family are coming home for ten days over Christmas. I am so excited to see them! However, they are considering extending their mission trip by at least another year (originally they were supposed to return in August), and we are all hoping they won’t be making an announcement to that effect. Their kids (all adolescents) are eager to return home.

  3. Kim, I was at a table of eight women where I described somebody as being, “Slick as snot.” It was an expression my grandmother used to use. Everyone laughed as asked if I was from the south. Then went on in praise of southerners for their writers and their talkers 🙂

  4. I think the birthday genie has given me a birthday present! My computer here at home is working better today than it has in many days! What’s with that? It is almost as special as having a birthday on 12/12/12. When I was in the lab yesterday having blood drawn I told the technician that there is no 13/13/13 to come, I am at the end of the line…we sorta had a frowning dawning moment on that thought!

I tried to leave a prayer that I carefully wrote out yesterday on the prayer request thread and it went out to nowhereland except God heard it and that is what matters most of all although I do like to comfort people by letting them know they are prayed for. That was what really hurt the most when my mother died. She could no longer pray daily for me and my family. But the Bible tells me that Jesus intercedes for us so who could neglect having joy over that fact?

    Happy 12/12/12!

  5. Happy Birthday Janice.
I read somewhere that it will be 88 years before that combination 01/01/01 will occur again.
There are certain names that have a special meaning to me. Janice is one of them.
I won’t mention the others, but I have known only one woman in the world named Muriel. A special name, a special girl (teen at the time).

  6. Interesting preview of Man of Steel. How does the snow keep falling and not melting on the fiery scenes? Nice special effect, AJ, and you probably did not even realize you made that happen.

  7. Coincidental, Chas, that I have a friend named Muriel who I have not seen in quite some time. I thought of calling to see if she would like to go get coffee this morning as we use to when our sons were homeschool friends.

  8. It’s snowing in the middle today. I don’t think it snowed in the middle before. I saw snow on another website or blog, it seems to be the popular thing this year.

I’ve got some errands to do today, hoping to ship a return item out, and I need to pop into the office for something. I also have to get dog & cat food, we’re running seriously low.

There are tons of workers outside, still working on the vacant house next door. They’re shouting a lot this morning which is annoying. I’ll be glad when they finally get done with it all and someone’s just living there again.

  9. Happy Birthday Janice !

And Annms, you’ll have a fun time with your sister & family. 🙂 Lots to catch up on, I’m sure.

Hey, now it’s snowing faster! And faster! Oh, now not at all. This can be obsessive. Why isn’t it piling up in big snow drifts at the bottom of the page?

  10. Several years ago, I had gotten an informational sheet talking about the significance of certain numbers in Scripture. I can’t find it now, but I remembered today that 12 was one of the featured numbers (for example, the 12 apostles, and the 12 tribes of Israel).

Today one of my devotional books had a reference to Revelation 22:2, and I just had to smile when I read it:

1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

I love little “coincidences” (which, of course, they are not) like that. 🙂

  11. We’re expecting a cold storm coming out of Alaska this afternoon (rain, no snow of course — although it definitely will bring snow to our local mountains and at some of the lowest levels seen so far this season; which means we’ll be able to see it from the harbor, always such a pretty, contrasting view).

Sounds like the rain will hang around for a few days. Yay.

And among our big local stories this week is one about a man who ran over a guy trying to repossess his car! The repo man is in serious condition. 😦 And I suspect the car owner will lose his car and a whole lot more over this. Merry Christmas.

  12. Mr P. has a friend who is having to move in with her grandmother to take care of her. She has a 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab who cannot make the move. He called me yesterday and was trying to convince me to take Dozer in. I stopped him and asked him what kind of person I would be if I forced a dog to go to a shelter right before Christmas. Last night he continued the hard sell invoking Baby Silas. Silas (who was born November 17 and lives in MARYLAND) has a black lad, so when he comes to visit he will already be used to a big dog. I have to give him credit for using an almost homeless dog and a cuddly newborn baby to convince me but I digress…

I adored my Golden Retriever, Marlowe, but ex-husband always used Marlowe as an excuse for why we never could go anywhere. No one to keep Marlowe and boarding him would cost almost as much as a hotel room (he weighed 110# and the kennel charged by the pound). As it is George will happily take Amos for any weekend or event and has evern known I was having a big family gathering and has called and told me he was coming to get Amos. I am not so sure I can sneak a Chocolate Lab into his car without his knowledge. 😉

My prayer is that I will accept this dog and not resent him. It isn’t the poor dog’s fault he is about to be homeless. I realize Mr. P isn’t like my ex-husband but it has been nice for us to have weekends where we didn’t have to rush home because of the dog.

My poor Baby Amos’ life is about to change drastically tonight!!!! He sleeps at the foot of the bed.

  13. I recommend these lectures:
    http://www.elshaddaiministries.us/fotl_n.html

You don’t have to buy them unless you want to see the occasional slide he references. They are quite interesting just to listen to. Just click on the DVDs and listen to the blog post.

They give you insight into Jewish customs, and how understanding the Jewish culture, words, and customs help you to really understand parts of the Bible better.

Very, very interesting. Chas, in particular, I think would enjoy these, as he also touches on the End Times.

  14. Are any of you here members of health care sharing ministries? My husband and I are considering joining Samaritan Ministries and wondered if anyone here has experience or input to offer regarding membership vs. having health insurance. Cautions or praises?

  15. Kim,

    You’re a good soul. I don’t know if I’d take in a Lab.

Well, actually, I would do so temporarily, as I couldn’t stand the thought of the poor thing going to his (likely) death. 😦 But, I’d be searching for a home … probably. I get attached pretty quickly.

And, after all, my MIL’s cat is still here — and healthy, I might add! — after raking me up with her claws 3 weeks ago!

Marshmallows of the world … unite!! 🙂

    Evidently she did.

  19. I like 12. I was born in 57 and graduated in 75. The numbers add up to 12 (5+7). My first child was born in 84. Those add up to 12. He was born on 1/13. 13 minus 1 is 12. I like 12. (And I occasionally get accused of acting that age.)

  21. Janice at #8: I once eavesdropped on my parents praying for me and my family one morning. They didn’t know I was up and lying on the couch when they were having their breakfast devotions. Wow, that was powerful – I wondered how we could ever go wrong with their prayers like that EVERY day!

When Mom passed away, I remembered her prayers and realized that those prayers are resonating in God’s ears all the time, as time is meaningless to God. This gives me great comfort and encouragement.

I hope my thoughts made sense 🙂

Face it Donna, you are just not of the tribe of Joseph. You are not a kindred spirit. (And do you know what those are references too?

  24. Chas: I read somewhere that it will be 88 years before that combination 01/01/01 will occur again.

4th, 5th and 6th Arrows will be in their nineties at that time, Lord willing (4th Arrow was born in ’01, so will turn 100 that year, but not on Jan. 1). 1st, 2nd and 3rd Arrows will be over 100, up to 110.

Strange to try to think that far into the future and imagine that some of them could be here yet. Two of my grandparents made it into their nineties and one lived to the age of 89. And my kids have all their grandparents yet (ages 72-83), so we’ve been blessed with some nice longevity in the family.

  25. We went to church tonight — there are Wednesday night services (in addition to Sunday services) during Advent and Lent. It surely is soothing to take in the Word of God in worship toward the close of day,

    Blessings.
