  6. We woke up to snow on the ground (first of the winter except for a few flakes here and there). Misten is outside eating it. She isn’t a whiny dog, but she looked out the picture window for a couple of minutes and she started whining, so I guess she remembers snow rather fondly. She hasn’t seen a lot of it in her lifetime; if this is a normal winter for this region, she’ll probably double eight years worth of snow in this one season. (Last year was a remarkably unsnowy season–the least my husband has ever seen here, and he has lived most of his life in the Midwest–so her lifetime total is probably eighteen inches or less.)

  8. You can change the direction of the snowflakes. But you already knew that.
    You can make them come straight down, but you can’t keep them from falling.
    That just reminded me of an old song, “You Can’t Keep Me from Dreaming”.

    Most voters don’t pay attention to politics.

  9. Tychicus, I went to OKC to see a game this weekend. Your Spurs and my Thunder are on a collision course. There was a prayer before the Thunder game and one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city has a giant lighted cross on all four sides. Hurrah for Oklahoma!

    We awakened to an additional inch of fresh fluffy snow on the ground…it is 1 below zero, the air is fresh and the forest is still and quiet. I am loving December!

  11. A few days ago, I mentioned a prayer by JaniceG, and how nice it was compared to my prayer for the same thing.
    And on the link to Becky’s blog I posted, Becky mentioned that she prayed for Collin’s future husband.
    That had never occurred to me. Somewhere out there is a 2/3 year old boy who hates girls. Never will like them. But he and Collins Lea Muller are destined to make a family together.
    I prayed for my granddaughters since before they were born. And that the guys they were going with would have God’s leadership with respect to each other. Apparently that worked out. But I never thought of a little kid out there who might become a spouse.
    Amazing! Not really so amazing if you stop to think about it.
    But it was to me.

  13. One thing I do pray about for my grandchildren and great grands; that God would protect them in the coming trials this nation and world will endure during their lifetime. I can’t foresee what it will be like, but someday soon the chips will have to be cashed in.
    It won’t be pretty. Many of you will likely encounter that, and an outside chance that I will.
    I pray that God will bless America again. But we’re “going ninety miles and hour down a dead end street”, as Hank Snow says.

  14. Kim, sometimes I’m still just absolutely stunned that the election turned out the 2012 way it did. Sigh. I was so hopeful that it would have been only 4 years we’d have to get through … now, 8. Four more years.

    And we’re on a trajectory — at a crucial point in time with so many issues hanging in the balance — that will be hard to undue after nearly a decade of going down that road.

    Only snow here is the stuff I’m seeing on this screen. 🙂

    Oh, but I did spot a can of fake snow at the craft store. I was wondering a while back if anyone still even made that. It was a staple at Christmastime when we decorated our trees growing up. All our ornaments & lights (oh, and remember those gigantic light reflectors? I saw some of those again, too) wound up with spray snow stuck on them from year to year.

    An last night on the dog walk, I saw one home that had giant light bulbs lining their front yard walk, the same shape of the big/fat multicolored bulbs that we had on our trees and around our porch roof.

    It’s the 60s Christmas themes all over again.

    It seems I can’t write at all now that I’m off work again for a few days. And I’m still half asleep, I’m sleeping in until 7:30 these days — after having rather stressful dreams about work. 😦

  16. I’ve read two stories about California this morning, one saying we Californians are moving to Texas in rather large numbers, the other from Bloomberg outlining exactly how big a mess our state is really in (thank you Gray Davis).

    And here’s something for our southern friends, posted by a writer friend on FB today:

    A reason there are so many wonderful southern novelists:
    “Suppose a man is walking across a field. To the question “Who is that?” a Southerner would reply by saying something like “Wasn’t his granddaddy the one whose dog and him got struck by lightning on the steel bridge? Mama’s third cousin – dead before my time – found his railroad watch in that eight-pound catfish’s stomach the next summer just above the dam. I think it was eight pounds. Big as Eunice’s arm. The way he married for that new blue Cadillac automobile, reckon how come he’s walking like he has on Sunday shoes, if that’s who it is, and for sure it is.” A Northerner would reply to the same question (only if directly asked, though, never volunteering), “That’s Joe Smith.” To which the Southerner might think (but be much too polite to say aloud), “They didn’t ask his name, they asked who he is!”

  27. Drives, My wife and I both had to teach Sunday School this week. Otherwise, we would have come up early and visited your church. Tychicus, Stephen Jackson is an interesting character. He made a rap song with Durant and deleted his (Jackson’s) obscenities so as not to hurt Durant’s reputation. He also is friends with Kendrick Perkins (Ibaka’s mentor), so I don’t think the thing with Ibaka is serious. There is a great oral history of the Artest/Jackson Detroit incident that is now out. I will try to post the link when I get home.

  34. Hello Wanders, my computer at home (where I am today) continues to be on the blink with CLEAR. It is too frustrating to have to wait and hope something will go through. Guess it is giving me more time to try to deal with our clutter.

    Doctor’s visit went okay. Got my leg x-rayed to see what is causing the pain. Doc thinks its arthritis. She was suppose to give me some exercises but forgot so I am trying to get back with her. I could do physical therapy but will go with doctor’s exercise on my own to start with. I hope all looks okay with the lab work on my blood sugar.

    We had a big rain yesterday and the bows and birds on the barberry (how’s that for alliteration) at the mailbox held up without looking too soggy. I wish I could enjoy all the videos and music y’all are posting but this computer won’t allow it for now.

  43. Has anyone noticed that the snow doesn’t fall when you get to the lower parts of the page? Must be an Arizona snowfall or something. It melts down from the clouds, then evaporates before leaving a trace.

    Nope, don’t see it. Well, I see a guy in a sleigh and some reindeer, but that’s it.

    They may well be doing what you say, but my eyesights not good enough to make out that much detail.

    Yeah, AJ. That Santa. He has a puppy in his lap, and he’s ringing some bells, and Rudolph is laughing–and it’s obvious he isn’t laughing in joy but in derision. If you hold the cursor just right, you can see what is in each of the presents on the sleigh.
