Prayer Requests 11-15-12

What, and who, should we pray about today?

And thank you to all of you who do.

Psalm 34:1-7

1 I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

2 I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

  1. Father, have mercy on us.

Heal our hearts and our nation, and bring us into unity with You.

I pray for our President, and ask you to bless him with your wisdom. I pray for Mr. Obama not because I like him or his policies, but because You have allowed him to ascend to power and have ordained that we should pray for those who rule that it may go well with us as citizens. And so this prayer for our leaders, is also a prayer for our children and grandchildren and their earthly welfare over the next few years. It’s a prayer for our seniors who are collecting SS and Medicare and pensions from other sources. It’s a prayer for those who are struggling to find or keep work. It’s a prayer for the vulnerable who are still in the womb. It’s a prayer for the peace of our nation which is now so fractured even Christians crave rebellion and division.

Heal our hearts, and renew our minds and bodies with vigor to fight the good fight. Remind us again of why we are here.

In the name of, and for the sake of, Your crucified and risen Son Jesus I ask it, Amen.

  2. I’d like to ask for prayer for myself this morning. I am going home for Thanksgiving. All three of my brothers will be there. None of them is a Christian. They all have myriad problems, most of which I’ve learned to live with. However, two of my brothers are currently fighting about something that happened this past summer. One has blocked the other’s calls. They are not speaking and have only communicated through email, though that stopped over a month ago. Prior to the fight, they spoke every day for years. Needless to say, things will be tense. Please pray that their relationship would be restored and that things don’t become unbearable during the visit.

As a mother, I realize this situation is especially taxing for my mother. She works really hard (as I’m sure most women do) to make a delicious and beautiful Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t want it to be ruined by the angry vibe between my brothers. My mom is 76 and doesn’t need the stress.

  3. Prayers, annms. 😦 That sounds potentially very stressful.

Debra, thank you, that’s a wonderful prayer to which we can all say amen.

Update and praise on a prayer request I’d put in last week about my friend Shirley who was getting a “call back” for something suspicious in her breast — turned out to be a cyst (she’s had those before), no further action required. She’s much relieved.

  4. Thank you, Debra, for your prayer which touches upon so many needs. It is a time of supreme struggling for many in our nation.

Heavenly Father, I pray in sync with Debra’s prayer. Thank You for hearing us all pray together for You to help so many who are in need now. Please bless those who are serving in our military and are embarrassed by all the news lately that it may be felt as a reflection on them and their standards. I pray for correction to be made to the availability of upper level high security members to no longer have such unrestricted alone time with people that would put them at risk of such behaviors that have happened.

Thank you, Lord, for the good news Shirley received. We all prefer this type of news but recognize that You are with us and strengthen us so we can be a good witness even when the news is not positive. Praise You, Lord, for the difference You make in the lives of believers.

I offer up a prayer for annms’s family. You know all the details about what has upset this family to this degree. Lord, I pray You would allow a quick peaceful solution. May angry feelings subside. I ask that You would give these battling brothers empathy for their mother, to engage on her level, and know the joy she can feel if they put their disagreement aside for the day of Thanksgiving. Lord, I ask that something can bring these guys back together for the future so they can be supportive of each other once more.

Lord, I pray for safety in travels for all who will be making trips during the upcoming days. Thank You for giving us modes of transportation and money to buy gas, etc., to enable us to get together with loved ones. Please make a way for those who do not have those resources and want to see their relatives to have a way to travel. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen

  5. Heavenly Father,

I lift up Israel to You in this time of need. Please give the Prime Minister Netanyahu wisdom and guidance during this time when it seems war has begun. Help all those in the nation who are fearful for the lives of their families. I pray You will give them divine help as their enemies attack with missiles. Encourage their military to be courageous. And Lord, I pray that You will bring many of the Jewish people in the land to know that Jesus is their Messiah. Show us, Lord, what we are to do to help. Prayer is basic as a way of helping, but if there is something tangible that can be seen as a response please let us know. Knowing how much You care for Israel and its people I offer up this pray in the name of Jesus, Amen
