Prayer Requests 10-13-12

This is the place for all things prayer related.

Psalm 31:1-3

1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
2 Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.
3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

  1. I’m requesting prayers for my husband as he travels to his parents’ while he is not feeling the greatest.

    He’s had a cold with a nasty cough that has worsened through the week. Yesterday his lungs hurt, and last night he felt feverish to me. However, he did get a good night’s sleep last night, and feels better today than he did yesterday.

    Please pray that he would be alert as he drives to and from his parents’ house, and that he and his brother would be kept safe as they repair heaters and do some maintenance at their parents’ home and his brother’s shop that require heavy lifting.

  2. 6 Arrows – My husband gets up at 12:30am, works long hours, & doesn’t get as much sleep as he should.

    My daily prayer for him, & what I just prayed for your husband, is that God would keep him wise, alert, awake, & safe in his driving (& everything else he does), keep him safe from others, & if need be, send angels to protect him.

  3. The other day, I started the Bible study of Schaeffer’s twenty five Bible studies. I offered it at free time and said anybody who cared to join in, could. This was after the small ones had all gone to bed. When I got to the table, I had six interested parties waiting. We had a good discussion and interesting questions. I noticed the seventh child, one of the two newest, sitting at the closest end of the couch to us (we were at the table) “reading” a book. Last night, we did it again, this time the boy was sitting a tad further away but well within hearing and had his Bible open. Pray that the Word would penetrate the heart and bring him to the Truth. He is definitely interested but too insecure to join in yet.

  4. Phos should probably be nearing her destination by now, if not actually there. Prayer for her as she begins this new adventure. And for the people welcoming her as they help her to fit in and use her skills and gifts.

  5. Just got off the phone with Darby’s mom. She is fighting the release of Darby to her dad’s home. It is tough when the fighting of the parents creeps into such a situation. Pray for all for wisdom and patience and understanding.

  6. Phos should be landing soon. She will be met by one of the missionary nurses who is just a few years older than she is and by her housemate who is an older missionary, but also new to us this year. The next few days will be busy as she will be dealing with killer jetlag, grocery shopping for a month’s worth of groceries, getting her internet and cell phone connections set up etc. She will be coming across the river on Tuesday. That trip is almost as daunting as the long plane trip!

  7. I would like to ask you all to pray for my family. My father-in-law Howard went home to the Lord this morning. His health had been deteriorating for years, but especially the last week. He had been in home hospice and died in his sleep. It was expected, but it hurts still. We know he stands, he’s finally out of his wheelchair, with the Lord this morning, and knowing that is a blessing, but we will miss him terribly. Please pray for my wife Cheryl, daughter Elizabeth, b-i-l Scott, and m-i-l Betty. They will need it.

    Thanks all,

    Allen Jackson

  8. Any Phos update?

    Now I can’t decide whether to picture Phos as Audrey Hepburn (skillfully assisting the handsome doctor in the medical ward in the Nun’s Story) — or Katherine Hepburn (sailing on the river wearing her big hat in the African Queen, looking beautiful while fending off the attentions of the ruggedly handsome Humphrey Bogart).

    Hmm.

    Maybe it’s because I live near Hollywood. There’s got to be a movie scene & a handsome fella in there somewhere. …

  9. Please pray for my dear friend Ruthie, a mother of 6 children, ranging in age from 2 to 15. Today after church, Ruthie ran her car into a tree. She may have passed out, as she’s not really sure how it happened. Recently, she has had numerous dizzy spells, fainting spells, & a loss of speech at times.

    I & some others are urging her to get herself checked out.

  10. Praying for Ruthie, Karen.

    When you mentioned she’s been having dizzy spells, my first thought was, ‘I wonder if she’s pregnant’, because I had dizzy spells during parts of three of my pregnancies. I’ve also fainted twice in my life, though not while pregnant.

    Loss of speech, though — that, combined with the dizziness and fainting — sounds like she could have some serious things going on. I do hope she seeks some answers soon.

    Did she or anyone else get injured when her car hit the tree?

  11. First thing Rughie needs to do is stop driving if at all possible.
    If not, then she should neveer go places where the speed limit is over 25mph.
    If she hurts someone, it’s her fault, since she knows the condition.
