  1. oh the smell of cedar. My property at my former home had large cedar trees and so many seedlings that they took over the property. I used to go out and cut down one hundred seedlings at a time. They just took over the property

Janice I can’t imagine what you have to do. When I was home on furlough I lived in the church missionary house. Before I left I had to take care of every piece of paper and decide where to put it. I can’t imagine doing that for someone else

that’s why I keep giving things away

  2. Good morning, all! For once I’m not checking this at 2:00 a.m. when commenting is finished for the day.

The last few months have been busy ones for our family. We just got to see our older daughter and family (three children) for the first time since Thanksgiving. Our younger daughter just got engaged, and she plans a short visit later this month. Also, my husband hasn’t seen his mother for two years as of next month–she had a stroke a few weeks after that visit, and his health doesn’t allow travel either–but his sister is planning to bring their mother for a brief visit next month, after her 90th birthday. (She also hasn’t met our youngest granddaughter, her 17-month-old great-granddaughter; hopefully she can see those grandchildren on this trip, too.)

I’ve been getting out a lot to photograph creation, but have had hardly any editing work this year. I’m laying the groundwork to transition into more writing, which is part of the reason I went freelance in the first place.

  3. My mother always liked the scent of pipe tobacco. I guess from when her dad had one. My brother went through a phase (when he was in the military) of smoking one.

My daughter recently was smelling smoke out on her porch. She and a friend kept trying to find where it was coming from. Her husband had come out and had turned on the outside light and fan which was on the ceiling. Turns out a bird had built a nest in the light and it was smoldering. She was very thankful they were there to catch it before the house caught on fire!

It is raining here and I am grateful. It is a shame that it has made the outdoor celebration, my husband’s group is performing at, a bit more difficult. It is to honor the 100th anniversary of a church of one of the members of the group. Still, we are in drought and needed the rain.

  4. Busy couple of days. Had a sweet friend over for breakfast yesterday and she left around 7 last night! Fun time.

This morning an HOA board meeting…arrived home and the skies open up with a glorious rain! The forest smells so good.

Janice your mention of cherry tobacco brought a flood of childhood memories. Every Christmas we three little girls gifted to our Dad a new pipe and a humidor filled with cherry tobacco. Sweet memories that sometimes prompt teary eyes ❣️

I like the scent of cedar and own an antique dovetail blanket chest constructed with cedar. It’s so old the cedar isn’t quite as strong but would likely keep the moths at bay still.

Scary about the bird nest placement Kathaleena… I would never had thought that to happen! Thankful a disaster was averted.

Cheryl your life has been full of sweet connections . I pray the mother/son reunion is most blessed of our Lord and you get loads of photos of your MIL with your precious grandchildren…I’m certain your camera is always close by!❣️

  5. Cherry Tobacco was my dad’s pipe tobacco. I loved the smell in the can, but not the smoke. He’d sit at the dining room table smoking while studying (he started his bachelor’s degree after my mom died). The problem was, the smoke was nose level to us boys when we entered the room.

Ah, memories. He stopped smoking cold turkey when he had breathing problems on a trip to Europe. His doctor told him, “If you want to live longer, stop smoking.” He lived another 30+ years and died a month before his 95th birthday 5 years ago.

One good thing, my step-mom stopped smoking at the same time. She’s now 86 and going strong.
