Our Daily Thread 1-8-24

Good Morning!

I’m not quite back enough to begin everyday postings, but I wanted to update you all on something that needs mentioning.

My time in the hospital resulted in a lot of time for prayer and reflection, as well as some convictions from the Lord. First and foremost on the last one, my treatment of Kizzie, DJ, and Cheryl on the news thread. I acted poorly, let the politics of the day interfere with and harm our friendship and fellowship. This was a grave error on my part, and the Lord has convicted my heart on this. So yesterday I took the time to reach out to all 3 of these ladies privately, to apologize, and beg their forgiveness. All 3 have graciously accepted my apologies and offered forgiveness. For this, I thank them immensely, and the Lord for convicting my heart. Also, Cheryl really touched my heart by sharing some of her husband’s health struggles as well. When struggling as I am, it’s helpful to know that others understand what you’re going thru. She has also graciously accepted my invitation to return to us Wanderers, so you’ll be “seeing” more of her. 🙂

Now that all being said and done, I’ve one last thing to do on this matter here. Since my poor behavior and treatment of these 3 ladies was public, so needs to be my repentance and apologies. I owe you all an apology for my behavior, and I hope you will accept it and forgive me. I’m truly sorry to all of you for having upset our fellowship and relationships in such a way. Please forgive me.

This ongoing ordeal has focused me on the things of most importance, my God, my family, and the brethren and friends who matter most. You all are among the things most important in my life. You have offered up prayers on our behalf, daily in fact. You have lifted my wife, and ministered to her as she struggled, and I can’t thank you enough for that kindness. You have blessed us beyond measure, and we thank the Lord for you all.

Hopefully, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled routine very soon.

Again, thank you all, and may God bless you all.

In Christ,

Allen

  1. The funny thing about these posts going on for so long, with so many comments, is that every now and then, I’ve had dreams in which the blog is just one long thread, with a whole bunch of people commenting, and I hadn’t caught up for several days. I’ll look at the thread – which looks like a narrower column among other posts from somewhere – and have no idea where I left off or who these people are. :-D

And now here we are in real life, with a long thread. But I’m keeping up with it and am not lost!

Meanwhile, we are seated with Him in the heavenlies and life is good.

  3. Good morning, indeed! Good day to share the goodness of God with others.

I had an opportunity to invite a young black lady Walmart cashier to church this morning. I got the best response ever. She had lived near the church and knew its location. I could tell she was interested when she got her phone out to write down details. I told her that the church teaches the truth about Jesus, but sone churches don’t. She said she is a Chridtian looking for a church and her brother is a new follower of Jesus. Wow, a Two For One! I told her that not all in the church look like me, that we have all types an we are about half and half expecting she would get my gist. I said I am in the Sunday school class for new people. (I forgot that a newer class with younger people just opened up.)

Don’t neglect sharing because you never know Who God will choose . . .

  5. Hey all!

I’m home and things went well. PRAISE GOD!

I’m now down the nephrostomy tube and bag on the left side, and the bag on the right side. They left the tube in on the right for now, as well as the drain. If no further issues, they will yank the last tube and drain at the doc appt next week. More progress.

Now I need to up my PT game and get back on my feet more consistently.

Also, this lightens Cheryl’s burden as well, which is more answered prayer.

Once again, thank you all for your prayers for us.

  7. Another cold blustery day here only to get very cold tonight thanks to the Arctic Blast.

Last week Art clipped a trash bin on the street at night and it took off the cover of his rear view mirror. We searched for it in the morning on the street but did not find it. A day later in driving the same way jome he found it. PTL.

Three days ago while out walking I pulled my phone out of my coat pocket whiled out walking. I must have accidentally pulled out a glove at the same time that dropped unnoticed. These gloves were special. They had been my mom’s. I was very sad. Yestetday on my walk, two days later,I found the glove on the street in front of mu neighbor’s house. PTL

Two lost and found stories in one week? Hmm . . . what could it mean? Well, for one thing, happiness, and of course, part of 10,000 reasons to bless and praise the Lord😃👐

  8. Good morning, all. My dad is definitely in an interesting phase. He had been eating less and less, but now clears his plates and bowls and saucers. He was up most if not all night again and began asking about breakfast around five. Though he normally eats at seven, we went ahead and fed him, even doubled his oatmeal. He ate cookies upon returning to his chair. One day I wonder if it is time for hospice again, the next he is back on track. They told us to expect that.

Janice, how nice that you found those things.

We find it amusing that the local news reported more snow fell in Nashville than in Duluth, MN the other day. However, our daughter was not amused to have to drive on the back roads to get to the highway for work. Our roads are cleared and sanded, but not so for those back roads there.

I am sure a whole lot of children were thrilled to play in the snow. :)

We attended church this morning. I got up early and baked raspberry bars to carry for Sunday school.

This cold weather makes me tired from all the extra weight of layers of clothing, but it energizes me in that there is no humidity, and cool air makrs me want to move to stay warm.

Having Miss Bosley stay close lately is a joy.

I finally got all the packed-up Christmas boxes moved back to the garage, had to wait for a break in the rain which started up again last night (but after the dog walk, thankfully) and has at times been heavy through the night and this morning.

Feels very good to have those boxes finally out of here.

Survived another round of annual ‘State of the Port’ speeches and big events in the past couple weeks, so glad those are over.

  33. The judge said the two children playing with hammers and each a block of wood, twenty feet from each other, supervised while dad and grandpa chopped wood thirty feet away was just as unsafe as them playing unsupervised in a public park and him waving an eight inch knife in sister’s face and at passersby. And we don’t know they were actually huffing propane. And her kicking him and the babies downstairs and going to jail for it was irrelevant. And him throwing a rock through the window of his house was worse than her throwing it at him. Did I mention she is a black belt in karate? He is the abuser.

On his Facebook page, he would write about how mentally abusive and manipulative his ex-wife had been. Until my experience with X, I would have believed that. But knowing now how certain people, like narcissists, make up things like that, and are very manipulative themselves, I tend to doubt.

Nightingale has told me that in front others, like a judge, X can seem very rational and persuasive. That is why she insisted that she needed a lawyer when they had to go to court.

But he has kept it up well over a year while living here. On the other hand, her behavior definitely qualifies.

He was very beaten down when he got here but he has made some changes and is much better emotionally.

  39. Yesterday was a very trying day. I had 2 appointments at 2 different hospitals.

The first was with my urologist. Good news there, they removed my last nephrostomy tube! I slept well as a result, for 3 hours after I got home, and for like 7 last night. It’s amazing how well you can sleep when you don’t have a large Lego sized block under your back. I still have the drain, we will monitor output for a week or so and then when the dr. thinks it’s OK, he will have the visiting nurse pull it.

The second was a visit to the wound center. Good news there also. The wound (incision) is nearly completely healed. I have also been given the ok to finally shower. 🙂 Can’t wait, but can’t get up the steps to upstairs yet. 😫

I may go to a friend’s with a first floor bath for this.

One of our elders from church who is retired has been a huge blessing to us. He’s been taking me to the hospital appts. so Cheryl doesn’t have to take off of work.

Also the continued prayer of my blog family and church family have been another huge blessing to us. I thank you all for that, it means so much to us.

I have a muscle sprain in my right shoulder, caused by something I’d forgotten about — a super-hard yank on the leash by Abby on Tuesday night when I first leashed her up. It hurt, but then it didn’t so I forgot all about it. No pain the next day, Wednesday.

Until Thursday when my shoulder and neck hurt so bad and I couldn’t figure out what happened, struggled just to finish the work day and turn in a story. I didn’t remember the leash yank until that night.

So I was able to get in to the GP Friday morning; she checked me out, took X-rays and it appears to be a muscle sprain so I’m off work for a few days. Thankfully she ordered some muscle and pain relievers so that is helping but I woke up this morning still hurting.

Michelle, that trip sounds very cold.

  59. I moved to Chicago straight from Phoenix. I’d experienced snow, occasionally, in my life (only once in Phoenix, and it made the front page), but my family joked that I’d never marry unless I could find a man who promised never to leave Phoenix, I was that much in love with hot weather.

Then I had four years of campus life to get more or less accustomed to cold weather, but except for Sundays I rarely left campus in those four years.

My first year after graduation I didn’t own a car. I took public transportation, sometimes CTA buses and sometimes elevated (el) trains. Some cities with public transportation have an actual schedule; Chicago doesn’t, or at least it didn’t then, and buses in particular were very unpredictable. It wasn’t uncommon to wait 30-45 minutes and then find three buses in a row, the first one or two so full they didn’t stop to pick up any new passengers but a third right behind them.

And that winter was brutally cold, with wind chills of 50 and 60 below zero. I don’t even know that the “real” temperature was, because they wouldn’t tell us that, but at least once that winter they told us it was -65 wind chill. Worst was when we’d had snow a few days before, and it was now icy and with hills of it you had to walk across to get to the stop, and get to the stop especially quickly if you could see the bus coming, because it would not wait for you, and you didn’t know how long you might have to wait for another bus.

I prefer in person studies, but that isn’t something I feel I can do right now. An online study has been different. I did one last year, too, with most of the same people. I have never been or done a study without learning something valuable. This study happens to be done in a chronological style.

  62. so this car that I am being loaned: I was told that it is very noisy as you go faster but not to worry

Guys, I am older, I know that sound. The engine is not shifting. It begins in first gear and then shifts into second and that is it. I think it has been happening for years

around here I am only going a mile so it is fine. But today I went further. I feel sorry for the other drivers as I won’t go over 40

  63. I’m very picky about my weather.

I don’t like anything over 90, or under 10. I can deal with cold and snow, but there’s a limit.

    Minus degrees?

Nope. Not since basic training. I avoid areas where that happens.

  64. Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here. Mid forties then into the fifties tomorrow. Looking forward to see what daughter has to offer today. Her last words to me yesterday were, “shut up”.

  65. the new church is doing the same Tony Evan’s study on God’s Kingdom.I just finished a 3-months long study on the same.

I don’t care for thematic studies like this, alas.

  66. The wind is cruel today. The temp is in the 40’s but it feels awful outside. I’d even prefer 20’s with no wind.

Church was wonderful as always. It was the last Sunday to focus on Psalm 119 and Soul Care. We had a quarterly conference after church. The main presenter had to leave unexpectedly so we got a bit off of Robert’s Rules of Order. In the end business got taken care of as needed.

It’s a sleepy Sinday afternoon here. Miss Bosley thinks its nap time. Maybe she is right.

  67. Yes, Mumsee?

The new header photo is a pleasant change of scenery. Thanks, AJ!

Such a dreary day here with the weather. The sun peeked out for a few moments but hid behind clouds the rest of the day.

Yay! My Lysol toilet bowl cleaner finally made it to our home today. The delivery box looked ragged. I saw where it had made it to Kentucky, so maybe it did get delayed by the snow storm.

  68. Ah, the scent of of pine tree …

Long nap today, the injured shoulder muscle seems to be healing.

Now I need to get to the market to pick up a few things. It was a lovely warm day here today, it felt nice to have the sun out again.

Glad the Lysol made it to GA, Janice.
