π π¦ It was back to work for me this past week, it was time (though not an entirely welcome change, to be sure).
π¦ Spent the three days desperately searching for stories, trying to connect with folks to find out what in the world was going on these days on my beat.
π I managed to find a few items for stories now lined up to do next week.
π Walks along the waterfront, though with my work schedule they’re now landing as it’s getting dark. Salty cool air, lights glimmering off the water as huge container ships are being unloaded, mariachis playing at the nearby fish marked & restaurant, the barking of sea lions in the distance, the sound of wet flapping gull wings as they fly over the top of the water looking for a meal, brown pelicans on docks also scanning the waters for food …
I’m hoping the port will turn up the tall walkway lights after our time changes, otherwise it could be a little too dark out there for walking after work. π¦
π¦ Oh, and my sympathies (and empathy) regarding the Braves, Janice, as the Dodgers also lost last night.
They could be eliminated from the post-season playoffs as early as tonight should they lose again to the San Diego Padres. The Rams have also had a rocky start to their new season, fresh from last season’s spectacular Super Bowl win. π¦
π¦ But this is how I know I am getting “old” . . . Now I have come to view fall – as much as I love it – with a bit of trepidation because it is merely a brief transition from summer to winter’s cold weather. I didn’t used to mind the cold weather, but now I do. π¦
π¦ We have a rule in this house to not turn on any heat until November 1. But there are some very cold days in October!
π Reconnected with my best friend from high school (again) on Saturday.
We connect and then lose contact for some reason and I’d recently contacted her brother to get her most recent email. She’s moved a lot also, now she’s in Washington State.
So many sweet memories of spending summers catching the waves at the beach (“We would have lived at the beach if we could have,” she said in an email yesterday; so true), tag-team baby-sitting for families of LA Kings players who would come to town from Canada for the winter hockey season, dropping notes in each other’s lockers, sharing a crush on David McCallum in Man From U.N.C.L.E., seeing the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl.
Both of us also became believers following high school, which made our friendship extra sweet through the years even though our contacts have been relatively few and far between.
Fall; that’s a rant.

π Fall; that’s a rave. π
π Having grown children come and help with some chores on their own volition.
π¦ Just about killed my husband, who hates to admit there are some things he just cannot or should no longer do.
π¦ The older I am, the more I realize how prideful I am. At least, I am realizing it. π
π The beauty of snow.
π¦ Heartbreaking to hear of another suicide. It is another reminder to spread hope when we can.

π Fall. It means winter is coming. Most of our leaves are down already and it’s cold out there.
