  11. A rhetorical question…

Why isn’t the FBI working with Dinesh D’Souza to investigate the evidence he uncovered in 2000 mules?

    And another one…

Why are we being inundated with the Amber Herd-Johnny Depp trial, and can’t get any coverage of the Michael Sussmann trial?

And so is their violent reaction.

“Supreme Court could rule on Roe v. Wade on Monday, as Biden admin braces for violence after decision

The Biden admin is preparing for nationwide violence after the Supreme Court issues a decision on Roe v. Wade”

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/supreme-court-roe-wade-ruling-biden-admin-braces-violence-decision

“The Supreme Court could issue a ruling on abortion as soon as Monday, which would be days after a memo leaked from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reveals the Biden administration is preparing for a nationwide wave of violence following the decision on the future of Roe v. Wade.

A leaked draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito signaling the high court plans to overturn landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade sparked pro-choice protests nationwide and an uptick in violence. Protesters have targeted the homes of conservative Supreme Court justices and vandals have targeted at least five pro-life crisis pregnancy centers across the U.S. and Catholic churches have been threatened and vandalized.

Additionally, a memo dated May 13 from DHS reveals that the Biden administration is investigating threats to the Supreme Court building and to justices in the weeks since the leak. The memo first reported by Axios details ongoing investigations into threats to “burn down or storm” the Supreme Court building.

In addition, the DHS memo reportedly says the protests outside conservative justices’ homes “are likely to persist and may increase leading up to and following the issuing of the Court’s official ruling.”

  16. Other than for political purposes, why would the president say that we should all be concerned about Monkey Pox? Understandable that the health community should be aware of it. The rest of us? No. Honestly, I think people are burdened with so much worry and there are those who just shovel on more. Very sad, IMO.

  18. The right’s obsession on the Clintons is now 30 years strong. Have to admire the stubbornness, but it may be time to move on. Its now a niche news item for a niche audience. And lets face it Johnny Depp is far more interesting than Hilary Clinton. (Personally I pay attention to neither…)

Abbot caused the formula shortage due to a bacterial infection in the plant. The shortage was further exacerbated by the new NAFTA agreement, passed by Trump and the Republicans, basically banning imported formula from Canada — we have lots here. And at its root is the failure of successive administration to prevent the consolidation of various industries into oligarchies and near monopolies, who use their wealth and leverage to control Congress.

The FBI, like most law enforcement organizations, a bloated mess. However, it does have the manpower to investigate white supremacists and angry moms at the same time. And yes if you say “we’re coming for you” at any type of politician, you will be called and investigated.

The Dow Jones rarely reflects the economic situation of the masses. In fact, sometimes its inversely related. A company lays off half its workforce and its stock will go up. Hire them back and it will go down.

The 10:26 am twitter video of the gender therapist is horribly edited. In most cases, she’s just responding to comments after her actual presentation which wasn’t shown. I’m sure her views are too extreme for people here and probably even me but lets not allow ourselves to be misled.

  19. The Mavericks story, although tragic, is not actual police incompetence. Texas law treats juvenile missing cases as “runaways” unless there’s evidence to demonstrate otherwise. They had video of her leaving with a man – it must have been voluntary or at least appear that way. I suspect she had been groomed online and this was a planned event.

The LAPD “happy hunting” was stupid and unprofessional. And the fact the suspect was shot just adds to the stupidity. I’m sure there’s no correlation or causation between the death of the suspect and the comment but the LAPD needs to be more professional especially given its reputation in the community. The toughness of your job is no excuse for foolish comments, stupidity and unprofessional behaviour. If police want respect they need to act as professionals.

Bill Maher is amused how the right has finally discovered his show. He will even introduce segments by mentioning whether or not the right will tweet the video. He’s a comedian so he simplifies the complexity of the situation for a few laughs. It gets really boring to discuss the various causes of increased LGBQT numbers so he doesn’t do it.

Politicians mention monkey pox or anything else not to scare us nor because they think its important. They are simply covering their bases in case it does become important. Imagine if monkey pox goes out of control and Biden had said nothing? He mentioned it, looked serious about it, gave advice etc so bases covered and time to more to the next news item.

  21. AOC is correct (btw, misleading title to the clip) the Talmud does provide for bodily autonomy and does allow for abortions. I’m not sure you can call it a religious right or sue for religious discrimination if you are a Jew living in an area with an abortion ban but it does raise the issue — by what criteria do we judge whether something is a human life.

Oklahoma has decided it begins at fertilization. This raises a few questions since at least half of all fertilized eggs do not implant or survive the first few weeks. Is it a miscarriage or an abortion or nothing and how will authorities know? And if life begins at fertilization, is the fetus entitled to welfare, health care, and any other state benefits? And if life really is important why did Republicans vote against free formula for the poor?

One Oklahoma politician has proposed a new law (probably won’t pass) allowing parents and students to sue their teacher if classroom lessons offend their deeply held religious beliefs. And they wonder why there is a teacher shortage…. Imagine Johnny coming home from school demanding to sue the teacher because she let other students say Santa Claus didn’t exist. And could a Jewish girl sue because she was denied an abortion despite her deeply held religious beliefs that she be allowed?

Talk about snowflakes; I’m offended let me sue.

  23. Once again, you mislead by leaving out relevant details. While it may allow it, it doesn’t encourage it for convenience sake or selfish reasons like economic or job related reasons.

    https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/abortion-in-jewish-thought/

“While Judaism takes a far less stringent approach to abortion than do many pro-life denominations of Christianity, providing explicit exceptions for threats to a mother’s life and rabbinic support for terminating a pregnancy in a host of other situations, there is nonetheless broad objection to abortion in cases without serious cause. In addition, despite the consensus that abortion is permitted in cases where continuing the pregnancy poses a threat to the life of the mother, there is disagreement over just what constitutes a threat.

Jewish law does not share the belief common among abortion opponents that life begins at conception, nor does it legally consider the fetus to be a full person deserving of protections equal those accorded to human beings. In Jewish law, a fetus attains the status of a full person only at birth. Sources in the Talmud indicate that prior to 40 days of gestation, the fetus has an even more limited legal status, with one Talmudic authority (Yevamot 69b) asserting that prior to 40 days the fetus is “mere water.” Elsewhere, the Talmud indicates that the ancient rabbis regarded a fetus as part of its mother throughout the pregnancy, dependent fully on her for its life — a view that echoes the position that women should be free to make decisions concerning their own bodies.

At the same time, feticide is prohibited by Jewish law, though there is disagreement over the exact source of this prohibition and how serious an infraction it is. Some consider it biblical in origin based on a verse (Genesis 9.6) that prohibits shedding the “blood of man within man” — a phrase understood to refer to a fetus. Moreover, Judaism teaches that the body is ultimately the property of God and is merely on loan to human beings. Multiple prohibitions in Jewish law— including prohibitions on suicide, getting tattoos and wounding oneself— collectively serve to reject the idea that individuals enjoy an unfettered right to make choices regarding their own bodies.

As a public policy matter, many of the major American Jewish organizations have been vocal in support of broadening or protecting abortion access. Orthodox organizations, however, do not support broad legal protections for abortion. A 2019 New York law liberalizing the state’s abortion laws was opposed by both the Rabbinical Council of America and Agudath Israel of America, two major Orthodox groups, though both groups have been explicit that laws banning abortions in late pregnancy when a mother’s life is at risk run afoul of Jewish teachings.”

    ——-

“Does Jewish law ever explicitly permit abortions?
Yes, but only under very limited circumstances. The most common situation, explicitly described in the Mishnah , is where the mother’s life is imperiled by her pregnancy. Some consider such an abortion not merely permissible, but mandatory. However, once the baby’s head has emerged from the mother (some authorities say the majority of its body, some say merely any limb), termination is no longer allowed, since Jewish law does not permit sacrificing one life to save another.

Short of clear threats to a mother’s life, the permissibility of abortion is controversial in Jewish texts. There are Orthodox rabbinic sources that support abortion when a mother’s health is in danger even if her life is not at risk; when a fetus is conclusively determined to suffer from severe abnormalities; when a mother’s mental health is in danger; or when the pregnancy is the result of a forbidden sexual union. However, these rulings are not universally accepted, and many Orthodox rabbis are cautious about laying down firm standards, insisting instead that cases be judged individually.”

“The seven Noahide Laws are universal, in that they apply to everyone, Jew or Gentile.

Bereshis 9:6 contains the seven commandments of Bnei Noach, which are:

Thou shalt not engage in idol worship
    Thou shalt not blaspheme God
    Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not engage in incestuous, adulterous, or homosexual relations, nor commit the act of rape
    Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt establish laws and courts of law to administer these laws
Thou shalt not be cruel to animals4
The primary objective of the parochial commandments in the Torah (the five books of Moses) is to support and preserve the seven Noahide laws. They are therefore not universally binding on all people. Some examples of these parochial commandments are: do not randomly cut down trees (Deuteronomy 20:19); do not randomly castrate animals (Leviticus 22:24); and Jewish men who are sterilized are cast out of the community (Deuteronomy 23:2).

The Third Noahide Law contains the admonition, “He who spills the blood of a man in a man, his blood will be spilt.” The Talmud (Sanhedrin 57b) defines “a man in a man” as a preborn baby in his mother’s womb. This passage specifically states that abortion is a capital crime, a view supported by one of the leading sages of the Talmud, Rabbi Yishmael.5

In his interpretation of the Third Noahide Law, Maimonides, the great twelfth-century interpreter and codifier of Jewish law, writes in his Mishneh Torah that abortion is a capital crime for the Jews: “A descendant of Noah who kills any human being, even a fetus in its mother’s womb, is to be put to death.”

Maimonides ruled that abortion is allowable only if the pregnancy definitely and without question endangers the life of the mother (Hilkhot Rozeah 1:9 and Shulhan Arukh Hoshen Mishpat 425:2):”

    —-

“So the Talmud rules that abortion is permissible only in very extreme cases: specifically when a woman’s “hard travail” places her life in definite danger (Oholoth 7:6). This is a codification of Maimonides’ concept of the rodef, or “pursuer.”

Therefore, traditional Jewish law holds that the preborn child has a right to life just as strong as the mother’s ― except when he or she poses an imminent danger to her life.

The former Chief Justice of the Supreme Rabbinical Court of America, Rabbi Marvin S. Antelman, clearly stated the position of Jewish law on abortion when he said:

All major religions have their parochial and their universal aspects, and the problem of abortion is not a parochial one. It is of universal morality, and it is neither a Catholic problem, nor a Jewish problem, nor a Protestant problem. It involves the killing of a human being, an act forbidden by universal commandment.6

Chief Rabbi Dr. Immanual Jakabovits outlined the foundation of the reasoning behind this statement when he said, “Jewish law sees every human life as having the sanctity of intrinsic and infinite worth. One life has as much value as one hundred or one thousand; you cannot multiply infinity and you cannot divide it. So every human being has an identical worth and is identically worth saving.”7”

  24. “Final Thoughts

The Conservative and Reform scholars seem to avoid the fundamental point in all of this. The Talmud states in Nidah 31a that there are three partners in the creation of a child: The father, the mother, and Hashem. This means that the creation of a child is the direct Will of the Creator Himself. Does it make any sense to deny the will of the Almighty by killing one of His creations to save another of His creations ― a woman in “hard travail?”

Reading the stuff you posted, it confirms Judaism has a different perspective on abortion. You posted Conservative and Orthodox opinions. Reform Jews have a more lenient view. The question then is do laws proposed by many in the Republican party discriminate against Jewish women? Put another way, is the current proposed abortion laws put forth by Republicans based on a religious point of view or a secular view of when life starts. If its the former, then Reform Jewish women will have a case.

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/sep/20/michael-sussmann-case-defense-attorneys-judge-have/

“The list of inside-the-Beltway legal players connected to Democrats in the case against Michael Sussmann, a lawyer indicted by special counsel John Durham, includes not just Mr. Sussmann’s attorneys but the judge as well.

Mr. Sussmann will face a trial judge who appears to have background connections to the FBI‘s original Russia investigation.

U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper, who is overseeing the case against Mr. Sussmann, is married to attorney Amy Jefress, who represented former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Just The News first reported Monday.

Ms. Page was a top lawyer on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team in the FBI‘s Trump-Russia investigation, and became best known for anti-Trump tweets to her former paramour, now former FBI agent Peter Strzok.

“It seems the two-tiered system of justice continues — how can a judge oversee a federal criminal case in which his wife’s client may end up being a witness in, for either the defense or the government?” Kash Patel, who served as chief of staff to the acting Secretary of Defense under President Donald Trump, told The Washington Times in a statement.

Mr. Durham, who is investigating the origins of the FBI‘s Trump-Russia probe, has accused Mr. Sussmann of making a false statement to the FBI about his warning related to computer servers tied to the Trump Organization that were backchanneling communications with a Russian bank.”
