Good Morning Everyone. I have been reading the blog early in the morning but haven’t posted because the day wasn’t up yet.
I don’t think I told you that I participated in Taste of Rotary this past Tuesday night. My friend M had entered with her “Savory Cheesecake, Roast Eggplant and Shrimp with a Creole Sauce”. Anyway, that’s not the point of this story…
The booth next to us was the Salvation Army Cooking Team. They had cooked Shrimp and Crawfish Creole and BBQ Ribs. The Giant of a Man who was the head cook told me he “came through the program in 1993 and never left”. He also used me to deliver his creole to the other seafood competitors who all came back by the booth to tell him how good it was. They won best entree.
Now the VIP’s paid $100 each to be there and the rest of the people paid $50 or so each. There were some high end restaurants there…isn’t it heart warming that the people who are in need of the Salvation Army’s services are getting award winning food?
The back story to this is that some years back, there was a local restauranteur who was temperamental. If something on his menu was ordered too frequently, it was immediately removed. He had an artichoke heart and gouda cheese ravioli in a vodka sauce that was to die for. Off the menu!!!! Anyway, he had some life altering event happen and closed the restaurant and began cooking for the homeless of MO-Beel That is who taught the winner of the Taste of Rotary to cook.
We didn’t win any awards but were successful in getting the word out about M’s shop. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=little+coastal+kitchen&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Morning! Cooler yet even more windy here than yesterday! When will it end already??!!
The wind must have scrambled the dog’s brains. It was like herding cats this morning to get them outside…such chaos!! (No offense intended towards cats…and that one up there just needs a tummy rub!)
Goodnight Jo. Now off to have second cup of coffee and a bowl of Cheerios
Storms rolling through here. Rain enough to stop the satellite signal. The snowdrifts are not melted yet. I am hoping the tax man doesn’t stop by and tax us for lake side property. 😉
We were visiting my SIL in the nursing home when there was lighting. A staff member came in and closed the curtains, telling the woman on that side of the room that it is according to regulations. Learn something new every day. This is a temporary stop for my SIL for some therapy. She will be moving on to assisted living, however. She said it was a very weird feeling to know her children and grandchildren were at her apartment deciding what to do with all her stuff. She had some strong directions for them, too. She felt like her identity was being erased. I don’t want to lose my possessions, but they are not my identity. Yet, I understand. When we see those old people in these homes, we have no idea of what they were and what they did.
My husband’s group was playing for an assisted living place on Thursday and a man commented about when he played music. He played for some very popular local groups and for some nationally known stars throughout the years. He cannot do it anymore after breaking his hand. Little by little, the longer we live, more and more of us is lost. That which is of spiritual value, though, will remain. Thanks be to God!
Woke up this morning to the cat flipping out, yowling and racing through the house, the sounds of something crashing into things.
Good heavens.
She’d gotten her tail caught on one of the hanging sticky “stick” traps for mosquitos I have near the back door (up high but somehow … ) and you’d think a dog – or bear – had her in its jaws. What a commotion.
Sticky stick is now off the tail and thrown away — but the last few inches of her tail is gunky and I’m not sure right now how we’ll get that cleaned up and out of her fur.
It’s a problem for later today. Can’t deal with it right now. I’ve had a fairly stressful week with more stress ahead.
~ When your cat has sticky stuff in its fur, you can use water, cooking oil, soap, or baking soda to dissolve the sticky substance or loosen it from the fur. You can then brush it out, lift it with a rag, or wash it away. Apply these ingredients with a rag, by hand, or by bathing the cat. ~
~ Removing sap from fur
If the sap has hardened, you’ll need to soften it using a hair dryer set to the lowest setting. …
You can loosen the sap by using olive oil, mineral oil, or smooth peanut butter (xylitol free). …
Use your fingers and a wide-toothed comb to carefully and slowly work the sap out of your animal’s fur. ~
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This one is for fly or mouse trap glue, maybe I can get away with this process without losing an arm:
~ You can use vegetable, canola, olive, sunflower, or corn oil to remove the glue. Just massage the oil into your cat’s fur until the glue is covered with it. Leave the oil for 5 minutes to soften the glue, then use a clean, dry cloth to wipe it out. ~
It just may be that sort of a day for our pets! Did I say pests….oh no I did say pets!
I ran to the store and then filled up the car…3.89 a gallon is the cheapest around these parts.
Husband returned from his run with our neighbor before I arrived. He said he didn’t have his keys and needed to ring the doorbell for daughter to let him in. Lo and behold Pip was running around the house and barking at him from the inside! Daughter had no idea she had escaped from her kennel. Thankfully she did nothing naughty and as soon as the door opened she ran down the steps and did her business in the grass! 😂
My daughter and Isaac went to the aquarium today and she sent me some sweet pics (well, except the caiman) to post on the blog. I’ll have one up once they’re loaded.
I just posted a very long video link for a long video on the news thread. If you are interested in the Idaho story on baby Cyrus or child protective services at all.
Good morning, and Happy Sunday! It appears I will have another visitor with me at church! Art!
Yesterday I left early to attend a writing workshop at Church of the Apostles with a friend. What a beautiful church. I met a lot of new people. It was a great class mostly on writing emails, newsletter articles or other church communications presented by someone who has taught at the college level and also taught to corporate groups.
Afterwards my friend and I went to the same restaurant I had been to on Wed. with my other friend. Same place Kim and I went. I am truly not use to so much social activity. But it has been fun. I seem to get worn out and need a nap after the events and big meals. Does that make me semi-retired?
The crash occurred at Route 22 at Route 378. Traffic is currently being rerouted to 378 south. Travelers through the area are advised to take I-78 east. https://t.co/vLg0LaCpOR
“Preliminary reports indicate that a group of 10 to 15 motorcycles were traveling east when several of them collided. Several people were injured and taken to hospital, but officials did not report any fatalities.”
I got an email this morning from Is Genesis History? It had part of an article on the flood. I continued reading online and enjoyed the article. I teach a lesson on the flood to my Kinder class and I agreed with what they said. I will have to finish the article later.
If anyone is interested the link was at newcreation.blog
article called What is the Truth about Noah’s flood in the Bible?
I put together a short newsletter last night. Then I sent it to be checked and noticed later that the email did not go. Time for bed so I figured I would send it this morning. Before I sent it, God gave me two changes to make. I added selling my flat as a prayer request and changed my email address. When I return they will only give me a month or two with this email address and then they will shut it down.
After I made the changes and sent it to the checker, it went quickly. God’s ways not mine.
I was just sitting here lamenting that we had been robbed of getting any of the moisture falling in parts of our state. I looked up and lo and behold snowflakes are lightly falling….thanking the Lord for the small offering!
We just came back from taking Pip for a 3 mile walk…she is now sleeping soundly!
We had a guest speaker from Russia this morning in church. Insightful and thought provoking for sure.
Whoever wrote that advice about getting sticky stuff off cats either doesn’t have cats or wrote that advice tongue in cheek. If serious, they forgot something. A person who wants to clean that cat needs protective gear, like suit of armor.
oh, no, not another cat!

Continuing to enjoy the Is Genesis History series. Fascinating. And it is neat to see the enthusiasm of the scientists.
