The other day I took the trash from the cave gift shop out to the dumpster and there was a cat trapped in it. It ran off into the woods when I opened the lid. It looked like a yearling, as it was a small tabby.
But we think the cat is the reason we’ve found dead bats by the cave entrance, 2 this week and two others previously. The bats look like something bit them. So we’re planning to trap the cat and take it somewhere, perhaps the pound. Our bats are on the list of threatened or endangered species in Missouri, so we don’t like stray animals killing them.
I love both indoor and outdoor cats. Pumpkin came around this morning for breakfast and was here late, at 10 p.m. last night.
Yesterday I had to remove a dead vine that in previous years was full of flowers right before the season changes. I think it is autumn clematis which has many small white flowers and it quite showy. For some reason, it died and had no blooms this year which seemed gloomy given our year’s events. I asked God if He could just give me one flower since nothing is blooming in our yard. This morning, I saw a flash of red in my peripheral vision. Closer inspection showed that a lone spider lily had shot up overnight and bloomed. God is just like that!

Cats are predators, for sure. Especially a hungry one. We keep ours inside, so they aren’t out terrorizing the birds.

Plus an inside cat usually lives substantially longer.
Mine are currently terrorizing a scratching thing with balls in it.
