Prayer Requests 5-8-21

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 86

A prayer of David.

Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
    for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you.
   You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord,
    for I call to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
    for I put my trust in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
    abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
    listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
    because you answer me.

Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
    will come and worship before you, Lord;
    they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
    you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, Lord,
    that I may rely on your faithfulness;
   give me an undivided heart,
    that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
    I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
    you have delivered me from the depths,
    from the realm of the dead.

14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    they have no regard for you.
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
    slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
    show your strength in behalf of your servant;
   save me, because I serve you
    just as my mother did.
17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
    that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
    for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

  1. Please pray for me as I prepare and preach tomorrow’s message – I’m starting a series on the life of Elijah and the text will be I Kings 17:1-7.

  2. Thanks for prayers for our dinner guests. Didn’t fluff it, but even better news, the friend really connected with the pastor, who is a great listener. Thank you.

  3. Praying that Chickadee will at least send me a “Happy Mothers Day” text tomorrow. Even better would be if she would come visit me. (Nightingale will be working, and Boy will be with his other grandmother.)

    As I mentioned the other day, I have been doing some of those extra housecleaning chores that aren’t done too often, but are often done when company is coming, or for spring cleaning. Today I cleaned out and rearranged the top section of my hutch, which had gotten cluttered with some things just stuck in here and there, and the shelves needed a good dusting and cleaning.

    As I do these things, I have the feeling that I am doing them in expectation of Chickadee popping in to visit. I hope that I will not be disappointed, but I have told myself that even if she doesn’t come over, I should still enjoy the results of these little projects.

  4. Btw, I am also praying that Linda will hear from other her son. And that BG will be good to Kim tomorrow.

    Just saw on a town Facebook page that a 14 year old boy in town was trying to do a stunt on his bike when a wheel fell off and apparently he landed on his head. Lifestar (a helicopter used for certain emergencies, to get the patient to one of the bigger hospitals) was called for him. The post said that he was unconscious and unresponsive. Please pray for a miracle of healing for him. Thank you.

    Janice – If she were living alone, I would feel freer to go over to check on her. But since she is living with the McKs, it is a stickier situation. My going over there, or sending someone else to check on her, would be seen as intrusive, since they are “taking care of” her.

  5. Since I last saw that post, another comment has said that he was heard talking as they prepared to put him in the helicopter. Glad to hear that.

  6. Two weeks ago, on April 25, something wonderful happened that was an answer to a couple of different prayers, which I know many of you were praying, as well.

    I’ve mentioned my younger son (5th Arrow), who has pervasive developmental delays. For a very long time, he was unable to understand the gospel, though he’s heard it every week in church, and also regularly at home, over the past 17 years.

    He has now come to a point where he can articulate the gospel of Jesus, his Savior. On April 25, he publicly professed his faith in Christ and was confirmed before many witnesses.

    One of those witnesses, sitting in the congregation gathered in the pews that morning, was our daughter, 2nd Arrow, who has not attended any worship services in many years.

    I teared up when I saw her and our son-in-law and granddaughter walk into church that morning. I was ever aware earlier that morning of the distinct possibility that, like on numerous previous occasions, I’d be getting another text from her, after an invitation to attend church with us when I knew they’d be in the area; the text would say something like, such and such came up, we won’t be at church, but we’ll see you later today…etc.

    I was convinced the same would happen on 5th Arrow’s Confirmation Day with 2nd. (“Oh ye of little faith.”)

    Praise God for His Holy Spirit at work in 2nd’s heart (and all of my children’s)! I know the journey continues, and it could be a long road ahead. One day in church doesn’t mean now she’ll choose to attend regularly again or find a church close to her residence. I choose to think of this time she has as her time of grace, the time during which she still has earthly being and opportunity to embrace her Savior this side of eternity. Please join me in continuing prayers for her, and also her husband and daughter, that they would all walk in faith with Jesus.

    Thank you so much.

  7. Thank you, Kizzie and all praying. And speaking of “2nd[‘s] … little family,” I’ll quietly sneak a more official announcement in here —

    A few weeks ago, on the Rants & Raves thread, I think, I posted anonymously about a little 1-year-old firstborn announcing via T-shirt, “BIG SISTER.” 🙂 I’m not sure how many people guessed from the couple little hints I dropped that my dear granddaughter was the mystery girl in the T-shirt.

    So now you know the rest of the story. 🙂 Please also pray for our itty bitty, yet-to-be-seen grandchild in 2nd Arrow’s belly, that this one, too, may walk with Jesus.

    Thank you. ❤

  8. RKessler, thank you, and yes, 3rd Arrow is engaged to be married. 🙂 They went to look at four venues — two yesterday and two last week — and decided last night on one of the places they visited a week ago. The date will be a Saturday next May.

    Exciting family events coming up in the next year!

  9. So grateful to report that Chickadee texted me a little while ago to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day. But also very sad and worried because she said that she has been struggling with her mental health and is not doing well. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will move in her heart in a deep way, and bring her to Jesus very soon. And please also pray against any suicidal temptations. Thank you.

    (She did say that we would talk soon, which was encouraging.)

  10. Kizzie, praying. It is a step in the right direction that Chickadee is admitting her mental health struggles instead of pretending she’s fine when she knows she’s not.

    Kizzie, I attended a conference at our church last weekend that addressed the following topics in multiple sessions: domestic abuse; victimization in the youth and adult community; moral injury; and mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and suicide. I thought of you and your daughters often during those presentations. The conference was recorded and is currently on YouTube in two videos, each around 2-3 hours in length. I believe you would find the afternoon session on suicide to be a helpful and hopeful guide as you pray for and minister to Chickadee.

    And the morning session, composed of the other three topics I mentioned above, may be helpful in understanding some of what Nightingale is experiencing as a result of X’s actions.

    I will email you the sessions links. Hopefully it won’t go to your spam folder, but if you don’t see my email soon, you could check spam, and if you can’t find it, let me know and I’ll email you a description of where to find the sessions on YouTube.

    We’ll talk soon…

  11. I’m so sorry, Linda. 😦 Over the past almost four months, thinking that Chickadee had cut us out of her life, I’ve had a little taste of what you have gone through. It is a terrible, terrible feeling. May God give you the peace that passes understanding, and may He do a miracle in your son and family.

  12. 6, I guessed it was you. 🙂 Happy for the official word.

    I talked to three family members today (not counting my husband) and have a bit of a heavy heart tonight because of some very serious issues one of them told me and also because my husband went to bed super early (and discouraged) tonight.

  13. Cheryl, your “like” on that anonymous comment tipped me off — good sleuthing work. 😉

    So very sorry about the serious issues you heard about, and your heavy heart. Praying.
