Good Morning. I have mediation this morning at 10 and this afternoon at 1:30 over one of my problems. I really would like to have her move on down the road and be someone else’s headache. Please say a prayer things go well.
I almost didn’t post that bluebird photo on Flickr since I didn’t quite like it, but I posted it and immediately it started getting attention. So apparently I was being overly critical. That week one of my photography groups was supposed to shoot the same thing from different angles, and I photographed that bluebird on the pole of a tree swallow nest box and then I walked past it and got it from a different direction (different lighting) and it was amazing how different his coloring was. But I ended up posting different photos for the “challenge” and almost didn’t upload this one at all.
Before my husband and I moved, every year we would get bluebirds in our backyard, a male and a female coming together to find insects in our yard, and later in the season their young, two or three nests of them most years, and then all fall we would get five or six bluebirds, presumably from the last nest reared in our yard. I never knew where the nest was and never investigated, simply because bluebirds lose a lot of nest holes to starlings, and I figured if they hid the nest from me and from the starlings, that was more important than whether or not I found the nest. It might have been in one of our trees or it might have been in a neighbor’s yard, but considering how much time they all spent in our yard, it was at least close.
Until I lived in Indiana, a bluebird sighting has always been a rare thing. We didn’t even have eastern bluebirds in Arizona, of course, though I’ve seen mountain bluebirds (a beautiful blue all over) on vacation. My 14 years in Chicago I saw bluebirds four or five times, and my eight years in Nashville I saw a bluebird about once a year. Add in a few sightings on vacation when I was a child, and I might have seen eastern bluebirds 15 or 20 times in my life until we had them in our yard and saw them nearly every day in some seasons.
My husband has admitted he was afraid we’d miss the bluebirds after our move. And indeed we no longer have a wide expanse of lawn outside a picture window where we can watch them coming to hunt while we sit inside our house. But it isn’t uncommon on a walk to see four or five bluebirds, sometimes in winter in a single flock, and sometimes in two or three sightings spread out over the walk. We never tire of seeing them.
I do, however, miss seeing kestrels and meadowlarks. But yesterday we saw and heard our first killdeer of the season and the first red-winged blackbirds . . . a sure sign spring is on the way!
I really like that photo, Cheryl. We used to have bluebirds in houses my husband made. That was when we lived in a mostly open field area. Now all the trees my husband planted make the landscape very different and not really a good environment for bluebirds.
We actually live very close to a birding area, which is where my husband grew up. He is always amazed to see all the photographers that are out on the roads taking pictures of the owls or whatever. No one there would have ever dreamed that this area would be so famous and people would come from all over to enjoy the wildlife.
Pray, Chas, as you find your way in this new chapter of your life. Prayers for your meeting, Kim.
Good snowy morning! We didn’t get as much as others in the area..only about 3 inches. The areas that were predicted to get what we have received about a foot! This has been such an odd year! The Palmer Divide has always been the winner in snow depth…not this year! But it is beautiful in our forest this morning and for that I am thankful!
Asking the Lord to give to you favor in the transactions Kim…you have been one busy lady!
That is a sweet birdie up there…I love it when our Western blue birds come for a visit…
Chas, I can’t remember if you have a cup of coffee in the morning. I know that Nancyjill loves her coffee. I have trouble waking up without that jolt of caffeine. And I often have a cup of Rooibos tea alongside the coffee.
Mumeee got it correct except for toast.
I didn’t have toast.
Don’t ask what I had for lunch. I’m embarrassed to say I just nibbled on a chicken breast.
???? I told you anyhow!
CBD progress. I am happy to report that one shipment is currently in Swatara TWP, Pennsylvania. The other has departed New Jersey and is now in transit. They started in Peabody, Massachusetts. Expected here next week.
I’m having raisin bread for breakfast, just got back from hanging out all morning at a homeless encampment. The vaccines are wonderful but they do put me back “out there” for more live stories again. This one was just a little too early for my tastes, but it’s time to “get back.”
The encampments are always eye-opening experiences — today LA city was conducting a comprehensive cleanup of this one large encampment, a practice that also has drawn advocates who say spot cleaning is good but the way it’s being done is inhumane in that it “confiscates” to many belongings, including tents. Last time the advocates did a car blockade which prevented the sanitation trucks from getting into the encampment (an area of dirt streets where trucking firms and other industry is located off the main street).
Anticipating the same thing today, the city posted temporary no parking – tow-away zone signs in advance and had LAPD on standby watching the entire cleanup process — so no blockade this time, just fewer than half a dozen advocates holding signs, helping folks gather up their belongings and passing out cookies and other refreshments.
I talked to several people from all perspectives — encampment residents, city officials, homeless advocates — as did our photographer before I arrived, so we should have plenty of material.
I do love my coffee. I cooked up some bacon for the husband (he says that is the way to a man’s heart!) and then I scrambled his fresh from the hen eggs given to us by some friends. He is a happy man this snowy morning.
I’m on my second cup of coffee and I skipped my Cheerios this morning…I nibbled on two pieces of bacon instead! 😊
Group-wide, 11-paper conference call today for managers to discus the whole unionization movement now in our midst. Honestly, I agree with almost everything organizers are saying about how we’ve been treated for well over a decade now, I just also know unions haven’t made a difference in any of the other groups throughout the country that are also in our company.
I think the concerns are that this now will be a distraction (many of our staff have been tweeting about it) — and could make life uncomfortable, peer-pressure wise, for the 25% of us who haven’t “signed on” with the movement.
Our unionization movement, as it were, also has taken on a political tone with calls for salary comparisons (between whites and people of color), calls for more diverse newsrooms and, especially, within management. It’s mostly driven by the younger reporters, who also have affected so many of the changes we’ve all seen in national news coverage over recent years with the ‘advocacy’ journalism model.
Mumsee has a better memory than I have! Now I am curious if you have a Keurig for making your Cup of Joe, Chas? I am still using a discarded coffee maker from the office to make my morning cup(s).
still feeling sleepy as I sit here watching the sky grow lighter.
it will be a busy school day, but school gets out at noon on Fridays, one of the many ways to help the teachers cope as we are so short staffed.
Lions to all was probably changed from Love to all by her Device. I am fairly well practiced in Device Speak. But Lions to you is a roaring success! Aslan is on the move.
This morning I finally got around to vacuuming carpets and using the wand attachment to pick up the gold confetti from when Nightingale popped the birthday balloons last week. But maybe I am still healing and getting over the surgery, because I was achy afterwards and haven’t felt too good since then.
But the two incisions that the surgical tape has come off from (as of yesterday) look good. The other two are the larger ones, and they are still covered. Will be seeing the surgeon for my follow-up appointment tomorrow afternoon. Pretty sure all is fine.
For the past three-plus years (since Hubby died), my laundry day has usually been Thursday. I don’t know how I settled on Thursday, but I did. Sometimes circumstances might have made me do laundry on Wednesday or Friday instead, but not far off from Thursday.
When I got home from the hospital after my gallbladder surgery, it was not wise for me to be carrying my laundry basket up and down the basement stairs right away, so I waited until the next Monday. But even so, I intended to switch the day back to Thursday later in the week. By that Thursday, though, I didn’t have enough for a full load, so I waited.
Then Nightingale ended up taking over the washer and dryer that weekend, so the next time I did my laundry was. . .you guessed it. . .Monday. And I felt a little annoyed, feeling that I needed to switch back to Thursday.
But why? Does it really make a difference which day of the week I do my laundry? I realized that I was just so used to doing it on Thursdays, and I am so methodical in various routines, that it seemed “right” that “Thursday is laundry day”, and changing that was causing me a teeny bit of anxiety.
On further reflection, I have realized that for my purposes, with the other routines I have for each day, I think that doing laundry on Monday will actually work out better. So I think I will keep it on Monday, even though I’m still feeling a little strange about it. (Btw, I am laughing at myself for making switching my laundry day into such a big deal. 😀 )
BG and I went out for lunch today. I won’t be having dinner. I brought lunch home
For Mr P. Little Miss is having Peanut butter and crackers for dinner.
For Valentine’s Mr P gave me a box of Puka herbal teas. I am having a cut of “Love” right now. It’s 🌹,camomile, and lavender. Before I go to bed I will have a cup of Relax.
I am showing property tomorrow and Saturday.
I am very thankful for all that has fallen in my lap this month.
Oh. I have two giant cups of coffee every morning with a little Coffee Mate Sweet Cream creamer. I drink it on Complete silence. Do not talk to me in the morning. I have to adjust to the day. It’s part of why I get up as early as I do.
There was a time in my life when I could get up at 6:30 and walk out the door at 7. I can’t and don’t want to do that anymore.
I do laundry any day of the week except Sunday. That’s how I know it’s Sunday. 🙂
When I have a basketful, then I wash it. For many years I did two loads of laundry a day, automatically, every morning except Sunday. (Which meant I sometimes had to do three loads on Monday).
Genuine question: What difference does the day of the week make? Do you do other things on specific days of the week?
Tuesday: my laundry and husband’s
Monday: thirteen does laundry (used to be fourteen too but he just got changed this week)
Wednesday: fourteen does laundry and nineteen has hers done for her since she broke the washing machine last week. In the past, Wednesday was her day and for years she always remembered it but not anymore. Now she rarely does.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday: twenty four and her daughter do laundry but sometimes does an early load and sometimes late at night
Saturday: day off with only three children to oversee/ usually a game of Risk
Sunday: day of rest/ church on line and sometimes in person/ sometimes a game of Risk
Michelle – Yes, I have a schedule, so to speak, of when I do certain housecleaning duties. But things do get switched around now and then for different reasons, and I am usually fine with that. But changing my laundry day has apparently shaken me up a little bit. 😀
I do laundry when the basket is full and I think about it. Truthfully, there is a dryer full of towels that have there since maybe Saturday. I sloshed coffee on a shirt yesterday morning so I quickly washed it. I opened the dryer and saw the towels. I decided the would help dry the shirt. They are still there
🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Kim – Nightingale does laundry whenever she gets around to it, and often leaves clothes in the dryer, and sometimes the washer. I go ahead and finish her laundry for her if her stuff is there when I want to use the machines. I don’t mind doing that.
I wash clothes when I have a full load ready. Usually I wash a couple loads a week unless someone gets their favorite jeans dirty and wants them washed sooner. I wash bedding every Monday 😊 I also vacuum and mop floors every day…sometimes mopping two or three times during the day depending on how filthy the dog’s paws and husbands shoes have been! We have “paw” and “Paul” tracks in the house…one cannot help herself the other refuses to take off his shoes!!
Janice, I think you have the gift of interpretation of digital tongues. I could not figure out what Lions to all was supposed to be, but your translation makes sense.
I know you are all just waiting for me to grab this 49. Thanks for leaving it for me.
Had a great walk and even got to visit with a few of those in quarantine. One couple was having their evening coffee outside. At the next house was someone new, an older single gal, yeah. So I called out a welcome and she came out and we had a visit. We were far apart though it probably wasn’t kosher.
Good Morning. I have mediation this morning at 10 and this afternoon at 1:30 over one of my problems. I really would like to have her move on down the road and be someone else’s headache. Please say a prayer things go well.
