  1. What is it?

    I was reading John, Ch. 26 this morning. Jesus told Martha, whosoever believes in me shall never die.
    That means, to me, that there is no such thing as death for a believer, but a transformation from a state constrained by a natural body, to a spiritual state, which we already have. since we were born again.
    To me (as I see it) we have an eternal spiritual body. When we pass from this life, we are with God in this spiritual state until God says “Enough”, and brings this natural world to an end. We are then resurrected and given a physical body that is without fault.
    I need to cogitate on this a bit more. But that’s the way I see it now.

  3. Chas, remember that death is separation. Physical death is separation of body and soul, and we will experience that. But spiritual death is separation from God, and the believer will never experience that.

    C. S. Lewis wrote something once about our innate horror at both corpses (the physical without the spiritual) and ghosts (the spiritual without the physical) and what it says about how unnatural it is that they be separated. Without the Fall, they would not ever be separated.

  6. Good thing we don’t need to be superstitious!

    My Direct TV went out last night. We are finally back on board. Every little thing seems like a big issue when you don’t know what you are doing half the time. It would be so much easier with little people around to help us out. Fortunately, we have the internet to help us contact the children who give us the help we need as much as they can. My husband is so looking forward to watching The Master’s Championship.

From my online Bible study this a.m., 1 Corinthians 8:2 “If anyone thinks he knows anything, he does not yet know it all as he ought to know it.” Knowledge is unstable, ever changing, ever expanding, and never fully known to people. And verse 3 that follows, “But if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.” God’s love is full and unchanging when we accept the gift of faith He gives us in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is such a blessing to read and study God’s word daily and feel loved in such an all encompassing way.

  14. I would like to “LIKE” some of those comments. But when I touch “Like” I get directed to a website where I have to log in, etc. I don’t want to go through all tha. So? I don’t “like” anything.

  15. I am not enough of a morning person to see Venus, Mercury, and Spica, but I’ve been enjoying watching three evening planets. Mars is bright orange and high in the east early in the evening. Jupiter is also very bright to the south, with Saturn clearly visible a bit east and a bit higher than Jupiter.

  18. Chas, if you sign up for the WordPress App and use the Reader mode you can like things on that. Maybe some family member could help you do that if help is needed. The only thing about the Reader mode in the app is you do not get the graphics such as the header or videos. You do get higher contrast on the print so it is much easier to read.

  19. I have to log in every day or couple days here, but I can just hit the W under the box and it automatically signs me in that way.

    I’m battling a mild cold that came on yesterday with some continual sneezing and a sore throat (no fever). But today I’m feeling a bit better, so far anyway.

  23. Little brother, I too, have been enjoying Jupiter, Saturn and Mars in the evenings. The new telescope brings the rings through clearly. And all those moons! Amazing what God has done and keeps running.

    Currently, Venus is closest to the moon, then much dimmer Spica, followed by Mercury. It changes of course, and since I too can identify the moon (and the sun!), I have to refer to what Earth Sky tells me for the daily show.

  31. It’s my day off and I have finally sat down on the back porch tp meditate and cogitate. We had a light rain yesterday morning when I last came out. I sat down and got comfy listening to those wonderful canticles that 6 linked a week or so ago. As I sat there a chipmunk raced across the floor. It paused on a bottom rail and looked back. It sat there for some time and seemed to be listening tp the Psalm. I didn’t run him off, but his presence is an indicator that there is a hole in the screen somewhere.

  32. In regards to the prayer thread: husband says if you can get yourself out without calling for help, then you are not stuck. Therefore the deputy was not technically stuck. Husband also takes pictures before he helps any of his wardens out of their predicament – then posts them on the office bulletin board. 🙂 One time a warden was dumping a dead moose and he back too close to the edge of the sharp drop-off and his front wheels were actually off the ground. Husband came to help pull him back onto solid ground, but took a picture before he got to work helping. The poor warden was literally standing on his brakes to keep from anything shifting.

    Husband also takes a picture when he has to call for help after getting stuck. Those also get posted – he’s a fair man.

  37. Spica is a star. In junior high I knew how to find all the major stars and constellations, but most of that knowledge is faded. I think I remember that Spica is blue.

    I also notice that I don’t see as many stars now as I did when I was young. I don’t think there’s much more light pollution where I live now then there was then, so it must be aging eyes.

    Debra, I’m glad you’re enjoying those canticles. I will begin enjoying them when I finish enjoying the psalms at the same link. 🙂

    The children and I finished the NKJV Chronological Bible today. There are readings for each day of the year, but we didn’t exactly follow that schedule — it’s taken us closer to two years to read through it.

    Hearing Revelation 19 today, as well as chapter 7 earlier this week, reminded me of The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, which draws on verses from those chapters.

    Here is my musical contribution, then, for the day, as it appears to be video-sharing day around here. 🙂

  44. From the funny-things-piano-students-say department:

    My newest student is a 7-year-old boy with whom I’ve had two lessons now. He has studied piano previously and likes to tell me about what he is able and unable to do, pianistically.

    Yesterday he was telling me he couldn’t play while both of his thumbs were on the Middle C key. He had them side-by-side while sharing the key, and parts of his thumbs lay against the adjoining keys on either side.

    So I showed him the trick of moving one thumb closer to the (shorter) black keys, while the other thumb stayed close to the edge of the C key. I encouraged him to try playing that way, and he did quite well with that, and I told him as much.

    Then he said, “Oh, but I can’t really do it that way.” I said, “Sure you can! You just did it, and you did it great!”

    To which he replied, “No, I can’t do that. I’m not that kind of guy.”

    I’m not sure how I managed to avoid laughing out loud at that unexpectedly candid remark. 😉

  47. Peter, my father used to sing/quote snatches of ’16 tons’ when we were growing up. He often quoted the chorus after compl… err, mentioning the challenges of managing finances due to all the required deductions. Like with so many of the songs my father quoted in our childhood, when YouTube began to be a place to find music, I tracked down ’16 Tons’ in order to finally hear the full song for myself.
