Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2019-Week 2

And here it is, Week Numbah Two. (Think Howard Cosell’s voice, there.)

We did okay last week. Well, most of us broke the .500 mark, anyway. Let’s try again. Kevin won last time, so he picks the tie breaker. And he chose to cause some consternation by picking Army at 7th ranked Michigan. AJ’s team vs. Kevin’s.

So pick away, picklers. Just do so before 12 NOON Eastern time on Saturday, September 7th, 2019.

And a disclaimer, especially to the one who keeps thinking there’s a real prize involved (typed in very small font like the legal disclaimers in the outside world):

This poll is for entertainment purposes only and is not in any way connected to the NCAA, the Conferences, or Las Vegas bookies. Entering does not guarantee anything in return other than bragging rights. Just don’t take the bragging too far, since you know what the Bible says about it.

  1- West Virginia @ Mizzou

  2- Vanderbilt @ Purdue

  3- #12 Texas Tech @ # 1 Clemson

  4- #25 Nebraska @ Colorado

  5- BYU @ Tennessee

  6- #6 LSU @ #9 Texas

7- Northern Arizona @ Arizona (Don’t laugh. My Wildcats lost to     Hawaii, so this one could be a challenge.)

  8- #23 Stanford @ USC

9- Pillow Fight:  Coastal Carolina @ Kansas

10- Tie breaker: Pick winner and final score: Army @ #7 Michigan

  3. I see I’m the only one so far to pick Coastal Carolina. They are the ones who couldn’t become Gamecocks or Tigers.
    Chas’ wild guesses

    1 Mizzou
    2 Boilers
    3 Clemson
    4 Huskers
    5 Vols
    6 LSU
    7 Arizona
    8 Stanford
    9 Coastal Carolina

Army (they pay the bills, sorry little brother) 31-21

By the way, there seems to be some sort of glitch in the program, no mention of Boise.
Prizes. You can never underestimate them.

  5. Disclaimer: this is NOT AJ’s team vs. Kevin’s. As a transplant from a big city, I am amused that, in this small town with a big university, Michigan football is SO IMPORTANT. Grown men cry. I roll my eyes. I get annoyed at how game day disrupts traffic all over town. And I have attended exactly one game, 23 years ago, thanks to a friend who had a pair of season tickets.

While I do follow Michigan football, I am not a loyal fan. I root for all the military academies. Who will I root for this week? Not sure yet…

  7. Well, I procrastinated putting in my entry until this morning and then was sidetracked by a minor emergency. So with my pledge that since noon EDT I have not consulted any sources of information NCAA football (games in progress, rankings, predictions, other people’s entries, etc.) other than the posted list of games, I apologetically submit this entry for possible consideration for half credit (or whatever you said you do with late homework).

  9. “This is ok because Game #7 hasn’t started yet.” We’ll see. Peter said once that he follows the same rule for late entries here as he does for late homework in his classroom, some kind of reduced credit.

  10. NOTE: Mike’s entry accepted.
Kevin’s conditional. If a games started at noon, by 1PM it’s still in the first half. I’ll look at the scores and see how close the games were at that point. (I know that the Michigan game was close all the way through.)

  11. Previous post is moot.

With two games yet to finish, Chas and I are tied with 6 each. We both picked the same teams to win, so regardless of the outcome, we’ll have the same score. Since Chas had a closer tie breaker (off by 17 compared to my 32) Chas wins this week. (If Coastal Carolina hadn’t pulled off an upset, it would be a different story.)

Congrats, Chas! (Or I should say, ATTABOY!)

    I’ll post final results tomorrow.

  12. It’s official. Chas wins with 7 correct picks and a better tie breaker score than mine. (That’s the 2nd week I’ve come in 2nd.)

    Here are the results:
    Chas and I – 7
    Janice – 6
    Aj and Kevin – 5
    Mumsee and Mike – 4

    Game scores:
    1- West Virginia 7 – Mizzou 38
    2- Vanderbilt 24 – Purdue 42
    3- Texas Tech 10 – Clemson 24
    4- #25 Nebraska 31 – Colorado 34 (OT)
    5- BYU 29 – Tennessee 26 (2 OT)
6- LSU 45 – Texas 38 (Most exciting game of the day)
    7- Northern Arizona 41 – Arizona 65
    8- Stanford 20 – USC 45
    9- Pillow Fight: Coastal Carolina 12 – Kansas 7
    10- Tie breaker: Army 21 – Michigan 24 (2 OT)

Chas- pick a game for next week (or I’ll just use the Alabama @ South Carolina game). Here is the schedule: https://www.espn.com/college-football/schedule/_/week/3
