Prayer Requests 5-6-19

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 94

The Lord is a God who avenges.
    O God who avenges, shine forth.
Rise up, Judge of the earth;
    pay back to the proud what they deserve.
How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?

They pour out arrogant words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.
They crush your people, Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.
They slay the widow and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.
They say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob takes no notice.”

Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?
10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;
    he knows that they are futile.

12 Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
    the one you teach from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,
    till a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not reject his people;
    he will never forsake his inheritance.
15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,
    and all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked?
    Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,
    I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19 When anxiety was great within me,
    your consolation brought me joy.

20 Can a corrupt throne be allied with you—
    a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?
21 The wicked band together against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent to death.
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
    and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
23 He will repay them for their sins
    and destroy them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

  1. The Youth of Italy

    Young Italians (up to 30 yrs.) are joyful and very social but also disillusioned and often despondent because of the economic situation. Their parents have already abandoned Christian faith (which in many cases was only a tradition anyway). Most young Italians have probably been baptized as babies but have had no further contact with church and even less with Christian faith, or with people who have a personal relationship with Jesus. That there is a God who can be found in the Bible, or that Jesus is real, is unthinkable for many; Christianity is not considered as a lifestyle or to be worthy of attention. This complete blindness toward God is a massive barrier to faith.

    Please pray specifically for Pisa…
    Three young men from an English conversation class have started attending a bi-weekly Bible study. Please pray that they will trust in Jesus.
    We are looking for two Italian co-workers (fully supported) who can work full time in ministry among teens/young adults.
    We are praying to be allowed in the university student dorm to conduct evangelistic meetings. Pisa is famous for its university, and the dorm is one of the largest in Italy.

  2. Praying, Tychicus.

    Prayers for wisdom here, please. I got a “nudge” (from the Holy Spirit?) last night regarding a future event that is planned. I need discernment in figuring out whether taking that event off my plate is of God.

    Verse 11 above really stood out to me this morning:

    <blockquoteThe Lord knows all human plans;
    he knows that they are futile.

    Thanks for the prayers.

  3. Not sure why the blockquote didn’t work. Must have missed the > after blockquote, because I know I typed (without the spaces) after “futile.”

    Ah, Monday morning.

  4. This is the first day of the 30 days of prayer for the Muslim world. The people group to pray for is the Fulani people, the largest nomadic ethnic group in the world at 35 million. I loved the Fula I met when I was in West Africa, and have wonderful memories of them. As nomads, they would be uniquely positioned to spread the Gospel throughout the region – they were partly responsible for the spread of Islam in the region back in the 19 century. Because they are nomads, the settled tribes do not always have good relationship with the Fulani, and even where I was, although both the Fula and the other tribes were all Muslim, there was an attitude of suspicion towards the Fula. The reports of the attacks of Muslim Fulani on Christian villages in northern Nigeria have made it to the news, but I know from sources on the ground that Fulani have fled violence in the north of Nigeria further south, where the sources have reached out to them. It is hard for a Fulani to become a Christian, as nomadic communities are so tight knit for survival, but they are, in countries throughout West Africa. But many more walk in darkness and dwell in the shadow of death, so pray that the light of the Prince of Peace will shine upon the Fulani (Isaiah 9:2-7).

  5. Yesterday I mentioned that today would be the next court date for Nightingale, for the custody agreement situation. Well, I did not realize that it had been continued again, until June 17. But thanks for the prayers anyway. 🙂

    (I was concerned when Nightingale came into the kitchen this morning at the time when she should have been leaving, dressed casually and saying she was going to make some breakfast. Then she told me the court date had been put off again.)
