I saw a few quick inside-baseball religion news item references to this controversy late last week, probably on Twitter, but didn’t immediately place who Paige Patterson was and didn’t have time to pursue the links.
I didn’t know Paige Patterson was president of SWBTS. I knew he was at Southeastern, but I haven’t followed the controversy. i was too busy to be involved in that and I couldn’t affect it anyhow. I have been in a church where they thought that a man couldn’t learn anything from a woman. But I don’t think Paul meant for his admonitions to Timothy (I Tim. 2) to become church doctrine. He puts some stringent requirements on this.
Someday, I’m going to ask Paul what does Adam being created before Eve have to do with SS lessons. And at what point does a female teacher of young boys have to stop?
My parents once belonged to a Church of God. (Cleveland, Tenn.) They had a female preacher, but she couldn’t attend a business meeting. Interesting how people interpret that passage.

The recording, which dates back to the year 2000, is of Paige Patterson, president of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a leading figure in the Southern Baptist Convention. Many credit him with orchestrating the conservative resurgence of the denomination beginning in 1979.
Not surprisingly, Patterson’s comments touched off a flurry of condemnation and calls for him to step down. Commentators mostly objected to the implication that he condoned domestic violence, which he has denied. But the Southern Baptist Convention has had a long history of conservative stances on women that it maintains are based on Scripture.

North will be retiring from his role at Fox News effective immediately. He will be taking over the position occupied by Pete Brownell, who did not seek a second term as NRA president.
“I am honored to have been selected by the NRA Board to soon serve as this great organization’s President,” North said in a news release. “I appreciate the board initiating a process that affords me a few weeks to set my affairs in order, and I am eager to hit the ground running as the new NRA President.”
NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre called North a “legendary warrior for American freedom, a gifted communicator and skilled leader.” LaPierre called the North announcement “the most exciting news for our members since Charlton Heston became President of our Association.””
The multiple addresses and variations on the name she used clearly show her intent was to get around those pesky campaign finance laws, and every single Democrat accepted her donations despite her being over the well known $2700 dollar limit.
“Alabama Sen. Doug Jones disclosed $4,700 from O’Donnell in his special general election bid last year against former GOP judge and accused child molester Roy Moore, his campaign filings show. Jones’ office didn’t return messages seeking comment.
Pennsylvania Rep. Conor Lamb reported $3,600 from O’Donnell for the special general election he won in a March upset, his filings show. He’s now running for a full two-year term in a different congressional district in November, and O’Donnell put up another $1,000 for that bid.
Lamb’s campaign manager said they will notify O’Donnell of her error and inform her that the extra $900 can be refunded or put toward the primary.
Filings show O’Donnell gave a combined $5,400 in contributions over the limit to the five candidates, and used five different New York addresses and four variations of her name.
O’Donnell donated $2,950 to California Rep. Adam Schiff, a 17-year veteran of the House, for his primary, according to his campaign filings. His campaign didn’t return messages seeking comment.
Lauren Underwood, an Illinois congressional candidate, reported $4,200 from O’Donnell for her primary, filings show. Her campaign didn’t return a message.
