Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 71:1-8

1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
    let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
    turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
    to which I can always go;
   give the command to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
    from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.

5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
    my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
    you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
    I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many;
    you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
    declaring your splendor all day long.

  1. Please say a pray for my dear Bible study student (!) Jo who will be 100 years old on May 18. Among everything else the last couple weeks, I’ve been working on her May 20 party–the historic timeline and photos.

    Her health is faltering, or as she says, “I’m fine from my neck up, but everything else is not working so well.”

    We’re all concerned but she’s refusing to see the doctor–her niece believes it’s because she’s afraid she’ll go in and never come out.

    Jo never married, lives alone in a second floor apartment without an elevator and has always been in command of herself and those around her. She was JFK’s briefing office from the Navy before he took command of PT-109, among other things.

  3. Jo’s fear is based on a lot of truth she has seen in her later years, no doubt. What a challenging time of life!

    I went to make potato salad yesterday and blanked on the simple dressing I have made for all my grown life. 😦 Those things happen more and more.

    I would appreciate prayers for one of my grandsons, who needs to get back on track following the Lord and not others. He is in a new school and it has been quite a challenge for him.

  4. Very much enjoying the green house the neighbor gave us when they moved last winter. I did not have time to set it up so we just threw the stuff in that they sent with it. But the past few days, I have been getting is straightened up and a while back got some seeds started. So much easier than in the kitchen and living room. It is about six feet by twelve feet so lots of room and toasty warm. No electricity or water there but it is doing its job nicely.

  6. Mumsee’s “God provides so much more than we know” reminds me of the little (and some big) practical ways God prepared me for life after Hubby’s death, which I’m sure I’ve mentioned before. For example, there were some long-neglected things that Hubby did within a couple months of his death that have made a huge difference in how I’ve coped with our bills and such. And while he was in the hospital, he walked me through, over the phone, setting up some payments with our online banking, which until then, I had had no idea how to navigate.

    For those who may have missed this, here is a prayer request I posted last night:

    “Nightingale’s beau has hinted at marriage. Please pray for wisdom for both of them. If this man is God’s will for her, may things go forward in His timing. But if he is not God’s will for her, may something cause them to break up, the sooner the better.”

    I would like to add to this: Please pray for Beau’s (not his real name, of course, but I think that’s what I’ll call him here) salvation, whether they stay together or not, and for his family’s salvation. (I know nothing about his, or their, religious beliefs.)

  7. You haven’t met him yet? Hmmm. A red flag . . .

    Meanwhile, CR’s flight has been delayed and she’ll miss the connection with us. They’re rearranging her flights now, and she’ll land four hours after us and this beautiful young woman will need to catch an Uber by herself on a Saturday night in a former east block country.

    This novelist mother is trying to figure out something else–something more accountable, say–and we’re laughing (some of us) about it by text. Sigh.

  8. Michelle – No, it’s not really a red flag in this case. And believe me, with her past experience with Mr X, and another later boyfriend who was seeing someone else, Nightingale is very alert to red flags. She is just a very cautious, private person, and hasn’t felt ready for us to meet yet. (Remember the recent conversation on here about when girls “become a woman” with their monthly reminder? Nightingale didn’t tell me she had started hers until a week afterwards. 😀 )

    Whereas you and I would think that it is good to meet while things are still casual, she feels that that should wait until things get more serious. I’ve actually meant to talk to her about that.

  9. Psalms renamed “rants and raves” Hmmm.

    Continued prayer for my friend in the neighborhood, E, who is battling some kind of very serious health issue, the details still haven’t been given to me by her, but it sounds rather dire. She was in the hospital again this past week, we’ve texted but she withdrew at some point so I’ve backed off, not wanting to bother her. She’s active in her church so I’m sure she has a circle of folks looking in on her. Her faith is strong.

    We’ve been friends for years, but it’s been a kind of off-and-on deal where sometimes we won’t connect for months and then we’ll head out to dinner or a movie and catch up, stay in touch for a while, and then drift.

  10. It seems my mother will be relocating to Florida with my sister as soon as my sister can sell her house. It is no longer working out at my brother’s, although not due to him. He is the one who has bladder cancer right now, although you would not realize it if you did not know it.

    There are a lot of pros and cons to this, but I believe the pros win out for now. Nevertheless, it will be difficult in some ways for my mother especially. I would appreciate your prayers for a swift house sale and for my mom to be willing and able to go. Also, for my brother and his wife for the relationship to the Lord they need.

  11. Hubby’s hip is worse today than it’s ever been. For a brief spell while outside this afternoon, he couldn’t step away from the spot where he was standing. He could stay upright without leaning against anything, but couldn’t move for a minute or so. He’s hobbling around again now, though.

    Continued prayers are needed. Thank you.

  12. Elvera walked today.
    She walked, using a walker, all the way across the room to the bathroom, did her thing and walked back.
    O was there to help.
    You can imagine how happy I was.
    Next week maybe. Somebody, mostly me, will always be there to help.
    I have had a ramp built over the steps so the front of the house is wheel chair accessible.

  18. My daughter has had a miserable travel day–6 hour wait at LAX, delayed flight in Frankfurt and now has missed her flight to Krakow.

    They’re trying to sort her out and onto a flight 5 hours from now, getting her to us at midnight.

    She is extremely tired and upset. Could you pray peace for her? Thanks.

  20. We are off to the baby delivery. Maybe. We are off. Somebody taking care of things here. No word that contractions have progressed but we are well past the due date so we are just going to head down. We may stay a few days or we may be back tonight. Prayers for wisdom and how much to say.
