Prayer Requests 2-1-17

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia, and for Ajisuun as well.

Anyone else?

Psalm 124

If the Lord had not been on our side—
    let Israel say—
if the Lord had not been on our side
    when people attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive
    when their anger flared against us;
the flood would have engulfed us,
    the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters
    would have swept us away.

Praise be to the Lord,
    who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird
    from the fowler’s snare;
the snare has been broken,
    and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

  1. He was the villain in the classic movie It’s a Wonderful Life, starring Jimmy Stewart. Absent-minded Uncle Billy had the day’s receipts from the Building & Loan in a newspaper, which he absent-mindedly gave to (or left for, I forget which one) Mr. Potter. Potter found the money, but kept it, knowing it would lead to the fall of the Building & Loan.

    Jimmy Stewart’s character, George, the owner of the Building & Loan, was about to be arrested for embezzlement when. . .Well, the day was saved when the people of the town came to his aid by donating money to replace the lost money, some in a sacrificial way. It’s a tear-jerking scene for sure.

  2. Hi, Kizzie. 🙂 I figured Mumsee is likely familiar with the movie and the scene, but “Potter” is such a generic sounding name she might not remember. But if she wasn’t familiar with the story, then we could tell her (as you did well).

  3. Kizzie, he handed Mr. Potter a newspaper, because the front page story was bragging on his nephew, who’d won a medal in the army. He didn’t realize the money was in an envelope on top of the newspaper (or inside it) when he slapped the newspaper onto Mr. Potter’s lap.

  5. Virus settling in my lungs, and fever and chills have returned. Really struggling to complete an assignment that is due tomorrow.

    My mother talked to me last night. The couple are still there, and I think my mother’s stamina is weakening. The couple are trying to pursue options for relocation. In a way, coming to my parents’ house seems to have made them realize in just what kind of conditions they were living – my mother has described she and my father found in the couple’s house when they went to get clothes and supplies for them, and the word that comes to mind is squalid – and they have no desire to return. However, there is always a long waitlist for assisted living, the agencies are privately owned, but there just isn’t enough, especially with the aging babyboomers.

  6. Thanks, Cheryl. I thought I remembered him handing the newspaper to Potter, but then I wasn’t sure if maybe he had put it down on the counter after showing him the front page, & Potter had picked it up.

  7. Thank you. Assignment is done and submitted (submissions are done online). Not my best effort, but as good as I could make it. Have another assignment due by Friday morning, but it is almost finished.
