Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2016-Week 13
It’s here, folks. Rivalry Week (said in a deep voice with lots of reverberation, but not yelled like a furniture store ad). The one week when national rankings take second place to beating that arch rival. The team with the better record is basically even with the team who hasn’t won much, especially if the game is at the team with the worse record. So, pick carefully, as you never know what could happen this week.
I won the last contest, so I picked the tie breaker. I usually pick my hometown team, but decided to make the tie breaker more of a challenge. So pick the winner of the Michigan-Ohio State game, and the final score.
Also, most of these games are Friday, so get the picks in before NOON EST on Friday, November 25. No national rankings this week since it’s Rivalry Week, except for the tie breaker. (If you want the rankings, go to http://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings.)
1. Washington @ Washington State
2. Boise State @ Air Force -This isn’t a rivalry that I’m aware of, but Mumsee enjoys having this one in the mix.)
3. Nebraska @ Iowa – These two haven’t always been rivals, but since Nebraska joined the B1G 10, it is becoming a major rivalry, especially since Iowa State hasn’t been much of a challenge for the Hawkeyes lately.
4. Georgia Tech @ Georgia
5. Mississippi State @ Ole Miss
6. Florida @ Florida State
7. Virginia @ Virginia Tech
8. Auburn @ Alabama (I believe I could call this one “Kim vs Kbells”, but they might be on the same side. I could be wrong on that.)
9. Notre Dame @ USC
10. Tie Breaker-pick winner and final score: #3 Michigan @ #2 Ohio State (The winner just might end up in the National Championship Game.)
8. Auburn My husband is a HUGE Alabama fan but I am going to take Auburn just to keep things interesting. This is our little secret. Don’t tell him. 😉
9. USC
Do I get any credit if Gamecocks beat the Tigers and Boilers beat the Hoosiers?
It would be something if Carolina pulled that off. They intend to do that.
SC can move the ball. Problem is. Everyone else can move the ball against them.
Clemson can be beat.
Uh, oh. I may have caused marital turmoil on the Bama coast.
Washington – Only because my sister lived in Seattle fro a couple of years.
Air Force – I grew up a mile from a major air base in Tucson.
Iowa – Gotta go with the Hawkeyes. MIL lives 20 miles form Iowa City.
Georgia – My alma mater is the Bulldogs also.
Ole Miss – Don’t know why.
Florida – I guess because FSU has had problems this year.
Va Tech – Home field?
Auburn – I like Tigers and underdogs.
USC – ND has lost to bad teams, and USC is better than the others.
Michigan 28-27 I feel like it’s a Wolverine year.
Washington State, because it is by the hometown.
Air Force, I have always said Go Boise and meant it.

9. Notre Dame (anybody against USC!)

I don’t understand this conversation at all:
Mumsee: Air Force, I have always said Go Boise and meant it.
Peter L:Oh, so the “Go Boise” means “Go away”?
Mumsee: Always has.
Well, Mumsee got her wish. The Falcons flew past the Broncos. But she didn’t win. Neither did I, though. The winner had 8 correct (it was a rough week for most of us). That winner is Rick Weaver.
The rest of us got these scores:
kbells 7;
Travis 6;
Kim, Mumsee, Kevin, Tychicus and I with 5;
AJ and Chas had 4.
Game scores:
Wash 47 Wash St 17 (Only one missed this)
Air Force 27 Boise St 20 (only 3 of us got this one right)
Iowa 40 Nebraska 10 (This one was over half way through the first quarter.)
Georgia Tech 28 Georgia 27 (only 2 got it)
Miss St 55 Ole Miss 20 (We all missed this, no pun intended)
Florida St 31 Fla 13
Va Tech 52 Va 10 (Everyone got this one right)
Bama 30 Auburn 12
USC 45 ND 27
OSU 30 Mich 27 (2 OT)
Ricky- 10-4 good buddy. (A little CB lingo, since in the old days most country folk had them, and when I think of Oklahoma I think of cattle ranches and oil wells.)
This week I’ll let someone else be first. 🙂

Kim, if anyone will spoil it all it’s those little Auburn rats. I’m married to one.

Mumsee- I think the turf is still blue. Last year I watched a game and on my TV it was hard to tell the players from the background.
Kevin- I disagree: anybody against the Irish.

The Friday games were good for one of us. 3 out of 3 so far, thanks to Iowa upsetting Nebraska and Air Force sending the Broncos home with a loss.

Boise should secede and become another State.

So you’re trying to get rid of them, not root for them to win?

Peter, perhaps it’s a Midwest thing to root for anyone against Notre Dame. My LA upbringing and my loyalty to UCLA say I must root against USC.
Now if it were USC vs. Ohio State, I don’t know…
