In the past, I’ve mentioned that something I pray now & then for my daughters (& for Forrest as he grows) is for God to protect their hearts from “falling in love” with, or being attracted to, an ungodly person, that they would find themselves only attracted to truly godly Christians.
I felt led to pray that prayer the other morning, seemingly out of the blue. Later that day, Emily told us that she had joked around (via text messages) with her cousin KC, asking her if she knew any “crunchy” men she could fix her up with. (“Crunchy” refers to people who prefer organic foods, simple living, nature, etc.) KC didn’t, but asked her friends, & as a result, Emily & a young man named Chris have been texting each other, & now they plan to meet for a date Saturday night.
(KC is very, very liberal, & I’m guessing most of her friends are, too, so I don’t want to see Emily get entangled with another person with very ungodly views & beliefs.)
Please pray for God to protect her heart. And for God to win her heart, so to speak. Also, please pray that she will not give in to temptation, if you know what I mean (& I’m sure you do). (She does say she just wants to casually date for a while, so I’m hoping she can keep it casual.)
I have been reading a book called Girls and Sex. It isn’t for the faint of heart and it isn’t a “how to” guide. What is deals with is the messages that society and the media (in general) send to young women. What we have done is effectively set “feminism” back to maybe 1940’s pin up girls. A girl/woman has no worth outside of her attractiveness and ability to please a man.
Miley Cyrus may think she is taking control of her sexuality, but what she is really doing is selling herself short.
It is tough for me to read as I have a daughter right in the middle of the age group described. What I have done, right or wrong, is give her a copy of the book to read as well. Perhaps she will see that a well established author, lecturer, and authority on women’s issues is saying the same things her mother has been telling her.
Husband passed another test so continues his pursuit of the CDL. Coming up on the third week. And then what? It has gotten his mind off of his aches and pains and that is a good thing. Prayer for wisdom. Thanks.
Kim, I think a lot of it has to do also with young women realizing they have a lot of power in that youth and prettiness — it’s all very transient and will pass in a blink of an eye. But it’s heady stuff at the time …
Thank You for the blessings of another day. You constantly give so much that we take for granted because we do not have to pay for some much of what You give.
Please be with Emily in a winsome way to steer her away from troubles and into the arms and love of her Savior, Jesus. I pray that for BG, too. You know the wiles of the evil one who keeps up the battle for hearts to break. I pray a mighty force around they young ladies’ hearts so they will not be engaged in any manner with those who will not love them properly.
I lift up Michelle, her son, A, and all others who feel wilted by the pain of losing the tiny one. Please continue to help them through the grief with Your supernatural cushioning.
I continue to lift up Mumsee, Mike, and the Nest for Your blessings of help, provision, and good attitudes to make for peaceful living. Help Mike in his training. Give success to all in learning pragrams. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
My heart today is feeling heavy about the situation with Chrissy living with the McKs. In addition to all the political & social issue stuff YF posts on FB, she also takes delight (it seems) in posting negative things about conservative Christians. Those things have the effect of being against Christianity in general, but I don’t know if she realizes this. A recent post was about a study that shows that areas with a higher concentration of conservative Christians have a higher than average rate of divorce, with a further comment by her that they also tend to have a higher than average rate of spousal abuse. I know (although I can’t really know, but I highly suspect, because of things Chrissy says occasionally that I recognize as being YF’s words) that she also talks about stuff like this in front of Chrissy.
In my mind, I liken it to if someone knew their loved one was being used or abused in some way by a roommate or spouse/live-in-lover. YF is virulently anti-Christian, all the while believing she is a true believer in the real Jesus, & His message of “love & equality”, & I know she must be trying to influence Chrissy. And one of the traits of Chrissy’s Asperger’s is that she picks up the traits & views of her closest friends.
Well, it will be another night of once again surrendering my sweet daughter into God’s hands. (And praying for the Holy Spirit to move upon YF & bring her to repentance, too.)
Please hear, in a magnified way, the mother’s heart, Karen’s heart, crying out to You for her daughter Chrissy who has fallen under the influence of negative forces. I know You desire for Chrissy and YF and all their other friends to be saved. Please do not hold back anything that can effectively turn their heart, mind, and totality of being to Jesus. Abba, I know deep down that they know something is amiss in their lives. They are lacking in the joy and completeness that Jesus brings to lives. Please make them be acutely aware of that longing for You. Help them to hunger and thirst for righteousness. Please show them Your well where they can find living water. Please show them that Jesus, the Word, is their daily bread. And make them to understand what treasure they are because they are made in Your image. I don’t mean to be telling You what to do, but please hear my concern in my cries out. Only You have the needed power to cause these chamges. I pray that with maturity, more experience, and finding something in common with some young Christians that they will see the light of Jesus as inviting and not harsh. Thank You for acting by Your will to reel them into Your way, Jesus. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
