Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks “15-Week 8

Week 8. The season is more than half over. Four Texas teams this week. Only one ranked. A couple of he others are “rank” this year. An Alternate Universe is what college football this year. We have a military trifecta with all three of the major academies on the list. This week the Mountain West gets a non-Idaho game as a representative, since Boise State hosts the 1 win team from Wyoming. We need a challenge this week, no? (Ironic that this game has Broncos hosting Cowboys.)

Go at it folks. Pick your favorites or go according to team colors. I hope the logos make it, since I used a different method of putting them in this time. And get those picks in before 12:00 noon EDT Saturday.

  1. Kansas  State @ Texas – Can Texas make something of this season? Can Kansas State?

  2. Texas Tech @ #17 Oklahoma – Red Raiders cross the Red River. This game may be over “Sooner” than the Raiders wish.

  3. Fresno State @ Air Force –  Bulldogs go to the Rocky Mountains to meet the Flyboys. The Mountain West middle-of-the-pack teams.

  4. Tulane @ Navy – The Green Wave vs. the Midshipmen. Interesting scenario for a novel. A Naval Novel?

  5. Tennessee @ #8 Alabama – Crimson Tide hosts Volunteers. Is this a suicide mission for the Vols?

  6. #15 Texas A&M @ #24 Ole Miss – The Rebels need a win against the Aggies. A&M has a slim chance of going to the SEC Championship (if Alabama loses another game and A&M beats LSU.) Slim chance for sure.

  7. Washington State @ Arizona – Cougars vs. Wildcats. Cat fight in the desert. Should be a “Wild” one.

  8. #3 Utah @ USC – Well, talk about alternate universes! Utah #3? USC unranked?

  9. Power-Pillow Fight: Georgia Southern @ Appalachian State – Okay, so these two teams are not losers. They are the best teams in the worst conference. Thus the added adjective.

  10. Tie Breaker – Pick Winner and Final Score: Army @ Rice – The Knights have a new logo. Will it help them win? I doubt the Owls give a hoot about it.

Note from AJ: The logos keep disappearing. They’re there when I copy, but not when I paste. Sorry. 😦

  2. Maybe I should save the logos as a jpg picture. And maybe I should proofread the post before sending it.

    So here are my picks:
    KSU – I like Wildcats, okay?
    Oklahoma is OK
    Air Force – I grew up near an Air Force base. They’re second to Navy, though, in my book.
    Go Navy!
    Bama – Can’t see the Vols beating the Tide in Alabama.
    Rebels take the farm from the Aggies.
    Wildcats. I said I like them.
    USC – The Trojans are going to be out for blood after the shellacking they got in South Bend.
    Georgia Southern – Yeah, App St beat Michigan a few years back. But that was then.
    Black Knights 28 – 13 over the Owls.

    Yes, it’s a military trifecta.

    I see AJ and I have almost the same thing. I made my picks before checking the others.
    I would like to change the A&M/Ol’ Miss selection, but can’t see it. happening. 😦

    Anyhow: Here goes
    Longhorns (I think Charlie Strong will pull it out.)

    Utah (Where did they come from?)
    Appalachian State. (The Mountaineers are not a Division 1 team, but they always do well in their league.)

  8. I notice week to week that Chas always picks the same score, 21-7, regardless of the teams playing. I do remember when football scores rarely went over 30 points. But now-a-days in college football, it seems a team that doesn’t get 30 or 35 is considered a low scoring team.

  18. Did I accidentally put a Thursday night game in the mix? Well, I guess since everyone posted picks before the game was played it really doesn’t matter. I watch that next time. (I wrote the deadline time before changing the Pillow Fight game.)

  19. I debated joining in this time, but I guess I’m a little late with the Thursday night game, so I’ll sit this one out. (I don’t think I can come up with all my other answers in under two minutes anyway.)

  22. Yeah, quite a game in Fayetteville today. And quite a few upsets.

    I am going to declare Kbells the winner this week, again. There are two games still going, with one all but decided (USC is 25 points ahead of Utah with 5 1/2 minutes left). Anyway, kbells and Tychicus have the same number correct, but kbells was one point closer on the tie breaker which Rice won 38-31. Those two were the only ones to pick Rice, by the way. They also have the same picks for the last two games, so kbells wins.
