  1. Aj: I’ll have to get L. to show me how to send pics. He’s awfully cute! He’s black with dark brown fur around his neck. He’s a long-haired cat, which I find prettier than short haired.

    He doesn’t cause any trouble.
    Vet expenses are zero.
He jumps into my lap every time I want him to.
And he’s a good watch frog. He just watches everything.

  3. Thanks for the update Peter. I remembered that we got over 2000 words, but forgot that it went over half a year. It started out being fun, then it was a challenge.
Seems like a long time ago now.

  4. Finally we can have enjoyment of the tree in bloom. Maybe it means I have reason to buy another birthday cake!

With all the pollen in the air, I have stuffy nose and burning eyes. I don’t blame Bush for that, but Adam and Eve.

New animal stars on the blog! How very exciting! ♡☆♡☆

  5. It isn’t Easter or Memorial Day but I am wearing linen. I just thought I should let you know. I live in a sub-tropical climate so I can bend that rule just a little. 🙂

My work day started at 7:30 and I am just now taking a breath. I hope all is well with everyone.

  6. Ahhh! For a moment I thought I was smelling those blossoms. So pretty and refreshing after a long winter. I love them even though my allergies can be terrible.

Chas, if you could just get your rock to breed with a gold nugget, you might get some valuable baby rocks. 🙂

  7. allergies: turmeric.

Husband went from near constant sneezing and nose blowing to not any of that in nearly two years. Of course, he now has rheumatoid arthritis, but I don’t know there is a connection.

Now we must convince Chas to adopt a cute new pebble.

My cat decided to sleep in the middle of my bed last night, making for a sometimes uncomfortable, twisted night.

I had dreams about old friends and old times last night, woke up feeling rather wistful. But God’s in his heaven and all’s right with the world.

AND — our heat is gone, yay! It’s once again foggy and overcast and cool on the coast. No white shoes and no fancy linen duds for us, at least not for today.

  9. The first gold rush was in the mountains of NC.. That’s what caused the infamous “trail of tears” where Jackson had the Cherokees moved to Oklahoma. A sad chapter in our history That’s also the reason half the people between here and Oklahoma can claim to be “part Cherokee” They probably are.
I tried to get my rock to breed with a gold nugget. But they all thought they were too good for him.

  10. That is what happened here when gold was found on the reservation, even though the laws said nobody was to be prospecting here. That led to the whole Chief Joseph, Chief LookingGlass, etc deal. Chasing the few Nimipuu to the Canadian border and then hauling them off to Oklahoma.

  12. Good morning friends. It has been a while. Sorry about that. I have been recuperating from a hernia surgery. The pain medicine they gave me made me sick so I had to grin and bear it. Not something I would recommend. I am better now, but it still smarts every now and then.

  13. Now the payback is Gold in Them Thar Casinos.

This morning I discovered the small plastic pack of leftover pill pockets (salmon flavored that the vet gave me for helping disguise pills) on the kitchen floor, smooshed and full of teeth punctures. I don’t think my husband did that, do you?

  15. I will be using Head & Shoulders shampoo that we get from Sams today. I will be on the look out for the shampoo you speak highly of as a nice alternative once in awhile.
H & S works fine as far as I can tell. I don’t shampoo daily, and my hair is super thick. It usually looks better a few days after the shampoo when it settles down. I don’t like to use conditioner because it tends to make it look greasy too soon after shampoo.

    Hello, Drivesguy. Welcome back!

Looking forward to pics of the kitty, Ann. 🙂

Here’s a QoD, if anyone would like to respond. Do you have any thoughts on the following statement I read by a preacher one time several years ago?: “If you don’t know whether you’re saved or not, then you’re not.”

  18. I don’t like the pastor’s response either. That was why people were baptized multiple times which gave rise to the Nicean Council

    The Nicene Creed
    WE BELIEVE in one God,
    the Father, the Almighty,
    maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
    the only Son of God,
    eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
    true God from true God,
    begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation
    he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
    and was made man.

    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
    in accordance with the Scriptures;
    he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

    Amen.

  19. Thanks, Janice and Kim. 🙂

Regarding the math in the date: 3-18=-15. That reminds me too much of winter. In my world, it could be turned into a word problem: The temperature is 3 degrees. If it then falls 18 degrees, what is the new temperature?

    Groan.

I like the suggestion of 3=18-15 a little better. The temperature is 18 degrees. If it then falls 15 degrees, what is the new temperature?

Still cold, but not as bad as -15°F. 🙂

  21. Nancyjill is ready to do her shampoo commercial now. 🙂 I’ll have to give that formula a try.

I think it’s quite normal for believers, in some circumstances such as in a struggle with sin, to question their salvation — to go back to the gospel basics (which is why I also love the historic creeds and confessions) and examine their faith.

It can be a very spiritually healthy exercise. In our church, we point people back to the basis of their salvation, to faith in Christ alone (which is done corporately every week at Communion — one does not participate in the Lord’s Supper because they’ve “had a good week” — nor should they NOT participate because they think they haven’t done so well).

I think we are called to “make sure” of our calling and to work out our faith with fear and trembling, so periodic re-examination during spiritual trials is encouraged. But we are to always remember that it is genuine faith and trust in Christ alone (along with our desire to obey and fight against the sin that remains in us, even if we fail over and over again) — not in our works or goodness or ability to not sin — and that will bring us back to the assurance of our salvation.

Those who believe that they are “good enough” — and never doubt that they’re saved because of that, they’re are assured by their own righteousness and works — are the ones who should have the real concern.

  22. To clarify, our desire to obey and fight sin is evidence of and a by-product of our faith, isn’t put on the same plane as faith alone — but genuine faith will produce that evidence of obedience (and, when struggling, a desire to obey because we hate sin) in our lives.

  23. Hi drivesguy.
Chuck’s company makes the surfactants for Head & Shoulders, among others.

The pastor was probably answering a question. Not a good way of putting it, but his point is well made A question like that is posed by someone who is depending on being “good enough”, when simple faith in Jesus is required. That person needs to re-examine his salvation experience.
An issue of doubt always needs to be settled.

  25. That is why I love this prayer:

WE do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

  26. What do you do if you work for a company that has a marketing director and you have a marketing piece that needs to go out and you have asked 4 times for the director or their assistant to show you how to do it (set up a template) and they refuse?

I finally called a friend who will help me do it tomorrow. This person is “protected” so I can’t complain. I hate office politics

6 Arrows & Donna, last Sunday’s sermon was on the passage from Psalm 51 where it says, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation..” The pastor was talking about how falling into sin or having great trials could make a Christian doubt their salvation. Job and David certainly expressed a lot of doubt at times, and it definitely wasn’t due to a lack of saving faith in their cases. I would add a third cause – spiritual warfare. What better way to torment a Christian than to make them doubt if they are saved?

  28. Lol, jmiller. I just realized I said there is still a gold rush going on around here. I meant there was still gold around here. I guess we often get the idea.

It is interesting to read all the fights around the creeds. People died over those issues. They were declared heretics. Fights over the Nicene and Apostle Creeds seem incredible now.

  29. Roscuro–I once had someone point to that passage as proof one could lose one’s salvation. I pointed out there is a difference between losing one’s salvation and losing the joy of one’s salvation.

  30. K, on the creeds: The Coptic church split from the other churches over the wording about Christ’s nature in the second Nicene creed. They were labelled as monophysite heretics by Rome. However, it really was just a matter of wording, not that they had heretical beliefs: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2012/juneweb-only/who-are-copts.html
Christ said we could judge by the fruit. Sometimes I wonder if the creeds have only served to divide and confuse the church – and allowed the wolves to shelter under the right sheepskin creed.

😦 I learned tonight that Elsa has died. Elsa is/was the 101 year old lady I told you about. We took her to the VIP meetings. She was at her winter home in West Palm Beach. We’ll miss her.

I also learned tonight that 30% of graduates from Southwester Seminary don’t get churches. So, I’m in company. Good or not, I don’t know.
    It worked out for me.

Media fast tomorrow. Are you sick of that announcement yet? 😉 I’ve probably said it nearly every week this year.

I’ll probably read more of Stonewalled tomorrow. I’ve got three chapters I haven’t read yet, but I’m enjoying the book and will try to read the whole thing eventually. I just renewed it tonight, so I’ve got three weeks I can keep it yet.

Also tomorrow, I will do what Kim did the other day — pray for my WV family, crisscrossing the country, and Canada and elsewhere too.

You all have a good evening tonight and day tomorrow!

  35. I learned at prayer group tonight that one lady who joins with us, though not a member at our church lost her nephew on Friday. He and another man were shot and killed ss they were walking home from work. He was a bouncer at a local bar. Robbery was probably the motive. He and some family members are practicing Hare Krishnas so he probably won’t be in heaven although he was baptized in the Church of Christ st a younger age.
