Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks- Week 12

The Dirty Dozen, a baker’s dozen, a dozen eggs. And here is the “dozenth” entry in the Pigskin Picks. Another attempt by us amateurs to pick the winners in ten college football games. Since it’s the twelfth week, I picked a dozen games! This way we can include a lot of our favorite teams, including Army and Navy. Have at it folks. There are a lot of exciting opportunities for upsets this week as some usually great teams go up against each other.

Get your picks in by noon eastern on Saturday, November 15th to be eligible for the honor of being the top pickled picker of the week. TRW was our winner last week and he picked the tie breaker, a game I might have chosen myself if Arizona were off this week.

And here are your choices:

1. #21 Clemson @ #24 Georgia Tech

2. #2 Florida State @ Miami (FL)

3. #15 Oklahoma @ Texas Tech

4. #1 Mississippi State @ #5 Alabama

5. #3 Auburn @ #20 Georgia

6. South Carolina @ Florida

7. Iowa @ Illinois

8. Washington @ #19 Arizona

9. San Diego State @ Boise State

10. Army @ Western Kentucky

11. Georgia Southern @ Navy

12. Tie Breaker (pick winner and guess the score) Missouri @ Texas A&M

  1. Some tough ones here. It looks like Aj and I will have to guess the A&M scores because a preliminary look says we are in essential agreement throughout. Purdue has an off week or I would throw that in for kicks. I’ll take a closer look later.

  3. Yes Chas, Purdue is off. I’ll include them next week when they play Northwestern. But judging from their games so far, they may need to change their name to “Purdon’t”.

  4. I have a tie-in to most of the games this week, so I’ll comment on that with my predictions:

    1. Clemson – I know someone who lived in Georgia. Not much of a connection, though.
    2. Florida State – I’ve never been to Florida, but I have an aunt and several cousins form both sides of the family there. Maybe we’ll go there this summer.
    3. Oklahoma – No connection here, other than friends in Texas, but not Lubbock.
    4. Alabama – No connections in either state, other than some of you all.
    5. Auburn – Same as above.
    6. South Carolina – No tie-in here, other than Chas.
    7. Iowa – This is a double tie-in: Mrs L is from Iowa and allof her family lives there, and I teach in Illinois, and the church I attend is there.
    8. Arizona – Another double: I lived in Arizona until I was 22, and my sister lived in Seattle for a few years.
    9. Boise State – My brother lived in San Diego for 5 years or so, but I only “know” Mumsee and family in Idaho.
    10. Army – A former student is at West Point and is on the boxing team there. He got 2nd in the Nation last year.
    11. Navy – My dad was a Navy man.
    12. Mizzou-RAH! 42 – 28 I live in Missouri, you know.

  8. kbells- my rankings are based on what they were when I picked the games. I can’t help it if “the College Football Gods” decide to publish new rankings later on.

  9. Janice- Strange that the Gremlins would change Miss to Missouri, considering Mississippi has always had that abbreviation, and Missouri has always been MO (or Mo.).

  10. It looks like Chas is the winner with only the Boise State game remaining. Since everyone chose BSU, it won’t matter whether we were correct or not. Chas has 9 of the games right, I have 8. Congrats Chas!

    Details later.

  11. And here are the results.

I missed one game last night (tiredness?). Chas got it right though, so his score is 11 of 12 (he only missed the Army game).
    With 9 correct, yours truly.
    8 – kbells
7 – Mumsee, AJ, Tychicus, Ricky and Janice
    6 – TRW and IBNO

    1. Georgia Tech 28 – Clemson 6
    2. Florida State 30 – Miami (FL) 26
    3. Oklahoma 42 – Texas Tech 30
    4. Alabama 25- Mississippi State 20
    5. Georgia 34 – Auburn 7
    6. South Carolina 23 – Florida 20 OT
    7. Iowa 30 – Illinois 14
    8. Western Kentucky 52 – Army 24

    10. Arizona 27 – Washington 26
    11. Boise State 38- San Diego State 29

So, Chas, what game will it be? Or should I just make it South Carolina vs South Alabama (USC vs USA)?
