Good morning, quiet Roscuro. Good morning, Chas. Good evening, Jo.
We had a very small prayer group at church last night. Does your church have a weekly prayer gathering for members? If it does do you attend? Why or why not? And how many attend? We hVe other activities during that time so that is one reason that more don’t attdnd. We usually have around 10-12.

We have a weekly prayer meeting every Wednesday and lots of activities for youth and others.. It’s usually hard to find a parking place on Wednesday night because most come for a Wednesday dinner. We usually attend the prayer meeting/bible study but not the dinner because Dianne can’t cook without onions.

I see in the Times-News that a truck carrying 460 bee hives had an accident on I-95 in Delaware. It didn’t mention the real tragedy. Most of those bees will be lost. They can’t survive out of the hive. Bees do not live on the nectar they get from plants, they live on the honey that’s made in the hive.
The bees were being transported from Florida to Maine to help blueberry production.
I don’t have any bees on by blackberry blossoms this year. I may not have blackberries in July.
With the drought in California, and the un pollinated blueberries in Maine, we may have a bad year this harvest season.

Donna, on your CT link from yesterday: I have a strong inclination to knock the members of The Gospel Coalition heads’ together. Tchividjian has a point, as the current tendency towards Reformed theology, especially with things like Sabbatarianism, can lead to an over-emphasis on the law. But he paints with too broad a brush and is not very specific in his attacks. On the other hand, his opponents are too quick to cry heresy, and not just with Tchividjian – when I read some of the criticisms of this or that church trend from TGC, it begins to look as if they hold no one outside of their specific group is a true Christian/church.
As for the C. J. Mahaney/SGM affair, Mahaney may hold some culpability in the Morales case; his brother-in-law Grant Layman admitted that he knew of the abuse but did not go to the authorities. I know of so many cases of abuse being covered up by the church (and I’m not talking about the Catholic church here) that another one would not surprise me. Tchividjian did shoot off his mouth on this topic – his input was not needed – but TGC was ungracious in their response and came off looking like they are the good ole’ boys club he accused them of being.
My greatest concern is for Joshua Harris. Last year, he stated that he had been abused as a boy and has now asked to go on administrative leave from Covenant Life Church. It is a long hard journey to deal with abuse from your childhood and this comes on top of the fact that he is now pastor of the church where the Morales abuse occurred (not that he had anything to do with the cover-up, as it was well before his time). He will need all the support he can get, and I wonder whether he will get it in the TGC atmosphere.

I belong to a Moms in Prayer Group that gets together weekly to pray for our children, the other kids in school, and the staff of school. We have about twelve regular members. I joined in September and am fond of each woman in the group, which is unusual for me. I tend to be rather picky about female friends–but this group is comprised of really special women. It’s been a huge blessing to me this year. Even though I won’t have any kids in public school next year, they’ve invited me to remain in the group.

As you know I received a Johnny Cash CD for Mother’s Day. This is one of the songs on it. I didn’t listen to it at first because I didn’t like the music. Finally I listened and like the words to the song.
Recently someone said that when they think of me they think of music. As I have been driving and singing along to my CD I thought of that. It made me laugh. There is a confession I need to make, I do not play an instrument, I cannot read music, and I definitely cannot sing (I have been asked by two husbands now not to do that). So isn’t it humorous that when you think of me you think of music.

Wow, that sprawling centerfold at the top doesn’t look like a dog to me, but I’ve been sitting at this computer way too long! 🙂
Off to walk and pray in half an hour and then hurry home to get my visiting daughter. I’m a mess in a lot of ways and we’re going to be decadent this morning at her insistence: sitting in Calistoga hot mud baths followed by a massage.
My boys never would have suggested anything like this–throwing mud, maybe . . .

Roscuro, thanks for the comments, I simply haven’t followed what’s been going on with much of any of that — I know all the names, have enjoyed writings from each, and visit The Gospel Coalition blog somewhat frequently. But I was at a loss as to what the skirmish was about (though I had read about the Mulhaney/SGM problems elsewhere).
My sense is that there was some concern that Tchividjian had begun stressing grace at the expense sometimes of an acknowledgement that obedience/sanctification must follow as a working out (and evidence) of one’s salvation(?). I like him a lot (though I don’t listen to or read his writings extensively), but I’d already gotten that sense from what I was hearing from him here and there more recently. So I guess I assumed some of the criticism of him might be focusing on that, but I wasn’t really sure, this was the first time I’d heard of any kind of a serious division among any of these folks. Joshua Harris I’m not familiar with at all other than having a general knowledge of his name & his “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” book from several years back (which I never read).
We have prayer before our services on Sunday, but since I drive someone to church — and neither of us are particularly early-birds, though that’s a sad and inadequate excuse I know — I don’t attend. We also have a Wednesday night meeting (attended by only a handful, I believe) but again my work schedule gets in the way. Work gets in the way of a lot.
I’ve had a sore/scratchy throat for 3 days now, it’s part of some kind of low-grade cold, not bad enough to stay home but bad enough to make me feel pretty blah and rundown. And I have a busy couple days ahead with several stories to do before the weekend.

A mud bath! Once I went caving and after a day of that I looked like I had taken a mud bath.it was the dirtiest I had ever been.

Donna, I have only recently learned about the controversy, though I first heard about the abuse scandal last year. My church isn’t actually associated with TGC, but there is a similar mixture of Reformed and Baptist theology amongst the members, especially our new pastor, and also among my larger circle of acquaintances.

On an entirely different note… I got the job!!!I got the job!! I got the job!!!! It’s very much out of character for me to take a step like this and I am most pleased at my confidence in following through with this. The HR contact even commented on how composed I was – that is not an adjective I normally hear in reference to myself. I felt very enveloped by your prayers and felt a peace through the entire process. I was far less anxious and high strung than I expected I would be. Thank you all for your prayers. And while I am going on and on. I love how you encourage and praise my husband. You all are some of the best blessings to Allen and to me that God has ever given us. Thank you for being faithful friends and prayer warriors and for all the love and encouragement you show to us and to each other.

Peter, your wedding avatar is so nice. When I was in high school I had a friend named Peggy who looked a lot like your wife looked back then.
My husband left the office early so we could get our car out of the shop, but he got into a traffic tangle. He did not arrive soon enough, so the car must be bailed out of the shop tomorrow. The good news meant we had a chance to go out for a nice dinner. We never had a chance for a number of months to do that because of tax season. I loved my grilled trout. I didn’t even bring a kitty box home for Bosley.,

And congratulations on the new job, Mrs. AJ! I had much the same experience when I played in a piano show in March — much less anxiety and a lot more peace than has been typical for me in solo performances in recent years, knowing all the prayer support I had here that night. Thank you all again for that.
AJ, I’ll add my thanks, too, for what you do here for us. And, as always, thanks for the classical music selections you often provide. You know I really enjoy those. 😉
Ride of the Valkyries today, too — woo wee! Good pick with Barenboim directing. He’s one of my favorite conductors (and pianists, as well).

I’m late getting on here today, & I need to get to bed soon. But I just wanted to say a bit about my Heidi. She is a scruffy ragamuffin of a dog, & there is some wave & curl to that hair of hers, which adds to the cuteness. She is a real sweetheart.
The only problem is that she is a “reactive” barker, the hardest kind to deal with. She has a compulsion to bark, & sometimes gets quite frantic. We have tried different methods over the past few years, but each one “wore off” as she got used to it.
After having given up for a while, we’ve been having some more success lately by trying to get her attention, sternly telling her to be quiet, & getting her away from the window or door. but how well that works depends upon how excited about barking she is at the moment. (If there’s a cat out there, forget it.)
And quite frankly, I’m weary of it all, which means I am not as consistent as I should be.

Roscuro, I was frustrated a bit by the Christianity Today article because it seemed to be written for readers who had followed the issue closely. It left me with more questions than answers.
Long day for me, had an in-person interview with 3 waterfront developers that lashes 2 hours then 2 telephone interviews with people on 2 entirely different stories. Lots of writing to do tomorrow.
