Psalm 19
¹The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
The last ten or so years that I taught SS, I always opened the lesson with a prayer that consisted of Psalm 1914.. I heard on the radio once, an interview with the sports announcer, Red Barber. He said that he always prayed that prayer before he started announcing every game, usually St. Louis baseball.
There, I said, “Every preacher and teacher should pray that prayer before starting.”
I still do when I’m teaching, which happens about 4-5 times a year.
That is such a good verse, Chas, for all of us. Too often, we worry about the words in the mouth part, but ignore the meditation in our hearts. It reminds me of the saying, “Be careful of your thoughts—they may become words at anytime”.
I had a sad conversation with a man named, Gordy. last night. He has been on his church’s board and is a believer. He is also currently struggling with alcoholism. His wife died 19 years ago and he held everything together for the sake of his children. Now the last one is in college and he is wondering what his purpose is. Pray that he will not believe the lies the devil is trying to convince him of and he will get whatever help he needs.
Thank You for the blessings of this day and evening. Thank You for the miracles in our midst that we don’t know about. How many times do You save us from calamity and we are oblivious to it? Thank You for the unseen gifts in our lives. We have never seen Jesus, yet Your plan for Him to come to earth and bring salvation is the absolute BEST PERFECT GIFT!
I ask, Abba, that You would keep people safe here in Georgia with this winter storm. Also keep all safe in other ststes that have been in the storm’s path.
Lord, I lift up Gordy to You this evening. Please help him at this time of despair. Give him Your strength to overcome alcoholism. If possible, Lod, I ask that he may get connected with a Celebrate Recovery group. However, by whatever means You have to make him know fresh purpose for his life, I ask that You would act now.
Thank You for the health of Bosley. She is twice the size she was at Christmas. She is thriving. Thank You for the good health of all the animals belongimg to those who meet up here on the blog.
You are so great. I offer praise to You. In the name of Jesus alone I ask for Your best blessing to be upon each individual mentioned, whether named or not. You are able to do these requests and more than I can think or imagine. All glory be to You alone. Amen.
