Prayer Requests 11-2-21

Let’s remember to keep our friend RKessler in prayer as she and her family mourn the loss of her mother early this morning.

Anyone else have something to share?

Psalm 86

A prayer of David.

Hear me, Lord, and answer me,
    for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
    save your servant who trusts in you.
   You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord,
    for I call to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
    for I put my trust in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
    abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
    listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
    because you answer me.

Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
    will come and worship before you, Lord;
    they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
    you alone are God.

11 Teach me your way, Lord,
    that I may rely on your faithfulness;
   give me an undivided heart,
    that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
    I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
    you have delivered me from the depths,
    from the realm of the dead.

14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    they have no regard for you.
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
    slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
    show your strength in behalf of your servant;
   save me, because I serve you
    just as my mother did.
17 Give me a sign of your goodness,
    that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
    for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2021 Week 9

I don’t know how to say that we were almost as pathetic last week as the University of Arizona Mildcats are, so I won’t. I’ll pick on other cats: Mizzou. I chose them as the Pillow Fight game, since they are winless in the SEC this year. Kevin won last week, even though he only got half the games correct, but he chose a good one for the tiebreaker. When was the last time Michigan and Michigan State played each other when both were in the Top 10?

Have fun picking the winners of these games. Just do so by NOON EDT, Saturday, October 30.

  1 #9 Iowa @ Wisconsin

  2 Miami @ #17 Pittsburgh

  3 #22 Iowa State @ West Virginia

  4 Minnesota @ Northwestern

  5 Duke @ #13 Wake Forest

  6 #10 Ole Miss @ #18 Auburn

  7 Oregon State @ California

  8 Florida State @ Clemson

  9 SEC Pillow Fight: Mizzou (0-3) @ Vanderbilt (0-4)

10 Tiebreaker – post winner and final score: #6 Michigan @ #8 Michigan State

Psalm 80

Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.
   You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
    shine forth before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
   Awaken your might;
    come and save us.

Restore us, O God;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

How long, Lord God Almighty,
    will your anger smolder
    against the prayers of your people?
You have fed them with the bread of tears;
    you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors,
    and our enemies mock us.

Restore us, God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

You transplanted a vine from Egypt;
    you drove out the nations and planted it.
You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea,
    its shoots as far as the River.

12 Why have you broken down its walls
    so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
13 Boars from the forest ravage it,
    and insects from the fields feed on it.
14 Return to us, God Almighty!
    Look down from heaven and see!
   Watch over this vine,
15  the root your right hand has planted,
    the son you have raised up for yourself.

16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
    at your rebuke your people perish.
17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
    the son of man you have raised up for yourself.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
    revive us, and we will call on your name.

19 Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2021 Week 8

Good day and welcome to another edition of Pickled Pigskin Picks. Should you choose to attempt to beat Mumseewho won last week, you must not copy her strategy, as that is wrong. Make your picks without reading hers, or anyone else’s. Plagiarism is a crime punishable by disqualification. But then, since there are only 10 games from which to chose, some identical answers are expected.

You have until NOON EDT, Saturday, October 23, 2021, to enter.

  1 Maryland @ Minnesota

  2 #18 North Carolina State @ Miami

  3 #8 Oklahoma State @ Iowa State

  4 #22 San Diego State @ Air Force

  5 #16 Wake Forest @ Army

  6 Wisconsin @ #25 Purdue

  7 USC @ #13 Notre Dame

  8 LSU @ #12 Ole Miss

  9 Pillow Fight (Pac-12 record): Colorado (1-2) @ California (0-3)

10 Tiebreaker – post winner and final score: Temple @ South Florida

Psalm 73

A psalm of Asaph.

Surely God is good to Israel,
    to those who are pure in heart.

But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;
    I had nearly lost my foothold.
For I envied the arrogant
    when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

They have no struggles;
    their bodies are healthy and strong.
They are free from common human burdens;
    they are not plagued by human ills.
Therefore pride is their necklace;
    they clothe themselves with violence.
From their callous hearts comes iniquity;
    their evil imaginations have no limits.
They scoff, and speak with malice;
    with arrogance they threaten oppression.
Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
    and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
    and drink up waters in abundance.
11 They say, “How would God know?
    Does the Most High know anything?”

12 This is what the wicked are like—
    always free of care, they go on amassing wealth.

13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
    and have washed my hands in innocence.
14 All day long I have been afflicted,
    and every morning brings new punishments.

15 If I had spoken out like that,
    I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
    it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
    then I understood their final destiny.

18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;
    you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly are they destroyed,
    completely swept away by terrors!
20 They are like a dream when one awakes;
    when you arise, Lord,
    you will despise them as fantasies.

21 When my heart was grieved
    and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
    I was a brute beast before you.

23 Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.

27 Those who are far from you will perish;
    you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;
    I will tell of all your deeds.

Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2021 Week 7

Seven. Some say it’s the lucky number. It’s the number of perfection in the Bible. Either way, here we are. Maybe the Week 7 tiebreaker game will bring Arizona it’s first win in a loooong time. (Peter won!) But then again, they could go to a perfect 0-18, continuing their longest losing streak ever. That is why the tiebreaker is also the ESPN Bottom 10 Pillow Fight of the Week.

Have at it, folks. Join the fun by NOON, Saturday, October 16, 2021.

  1 Vanderbilt @ South Carolina

  2 Auburn @ #17 Arkansas

  3 #13 Mississippi @ Tennessee

  4 Nebraska @ Minnesota

  5 #22 NC State @ Boston College

  6 Iowa State @ Kansas State

  7 #12 Oklahoma State @ #25 Texas

  8 Air Force @ Boise State

  9 UCLA @ Washington

10 Tiebreaker – post winner and final score (also, Pillow Fight): Arizona (0-5, 0-2) @ Colorado (1-4, 0-2)

Psalm 65

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
    to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
    to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
    you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
    and bring near to live in your courts!
   We are filled with the good things of your house,
    of your holy temple.

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
    God our Savior,
   the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
    having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
    where morning dawns, where evening fades,
    you call forth songs of joy.

You care for the land and water it;
    you enrich it abundantly.
   The streams of God are filled with water
    to provide the people with grain,
    for so you have ordained it.
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
    you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty,
    and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
    the hills are clothed with gladness.
13 The meadows are covered with flocks
    and the valleys are mantled with grain;
    they shout for joy and sing.

Psalm 59

Deliver me from my enemies, O God;
    be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
Deliver me from evildoers
    and save me from those who are after my blood.

See how they lie in wait for me!
    Fierce men conspire against me
    for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
    Arise to help me; look on my plight!
You, Lord God Almighty,
    you who are the God of Israel,
   rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
    show no mercy to wicked traitors.

They return at evening,
    snarling like dogs,
    and prowl about the city.
See what they spew from their mouths—
    the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
    and they think, “Who can hear us?”
But you laugh at them, Lord;
    you scoff at all those nations.

You are my strength, I watch for you;
    you, God, are my fortress,
10 my God on whom I can rely.

   God will go before me
    and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11 But do not kill them, Lord our shield,
    or my people will forget.
   In your might uproot them
    and bring them down.
12 For the sins of their mouths,
    for the words of their lips,
    let them be caught in their pride.
   For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in your wrath,
    consume them till they are no more.
   Then it will be known to the ends of the earth
    that God rules over Jacob.

14 They return at evening,
    snarling like dogs,
    and prowl about the city.
15 They wander about for food
    and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength,
    in the morning I will sing of your love;
   for you are my fortress,
    my refuge in times of trouble.

17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
    you, God, are my fortress,
    my God on whom I can rely.
