  1. Lies, damned lies, and the lying liars who tell them…

“Why does everything feel like theater?

We have a Congress that won’t pass something 83% people want.

We have a judicial system that doesn’t hold criminals accountable.

We have an education system that doesn’t educate.

We have a non-profit system that profits from our tax dollars.

We have a health care industry that profits from you staying sick.

We have a financial industry that needs you to stay in debt.

We have an insurance industry that fights every single claim.

It just all feels so fake, so theatrical.”

  2. Tychicus — yesterday — yes they were terrorist acts. However, they demonstrate the narrow focus on Iran as a regional power presenting no challenge to the US as a world power. With the US now energy sufficient, it has no need to engage in regional conflicts in the middle east — it does not add to its world power rather it risks subtracting from it. Only Israel and the Emirs benefit from the US involvement. I thought MAGA was against foreign wars that had nothing to do with US interests

    Interesting rumors/conspiracies circulating the internet;

On April 1st, a leaked plan suggested the Trump admin wanted to seize Iran’s uranium with a commando team and extract it with cargo planes using a makeshift airport. In the first version, they hurried up the plan when a pilot ejected over Iran and thus the plan was to rescue him and try to seize the uranium. The latter failed but they managed to get the pilot and thus a victory lap

The more conspiracy minded version has the US attempting this plan but failing spectacularly, and at huge cost to the US. Now, what was a failed invasion and uranium exfiltration attempt becomes a fantastic heroic rescue-mission story that’s full of holes. Apparently the existence of the pilot is even questionable in this version.

The leaked plan part is true, the rest is conjecture —

  3. kathaleena, if true the doctor should be reprimanded. MAiD protocols don’t include suggestions at the emergency room

The bright side of the story is she was fully treated and was able to travel to Cuba, Mexico and Guatemala. Canadian health care works — fully treated and money left over to travel

  4. A horrible suggestion made to that poor woman! Imagine a patient going in for treatment and said patient was struggling with depression or just having a rough day….”sure…let’s just end it all because this worker thinks that would be a good thing for me!”

It began with devaluing life before birth and we all saw it coming…it’s now here…And yes I live in a state condoning ending the life of a baby at birth! God help us…

Iran was/is a threat to humanity with nuclear capabilities in their terroristic hands…so yes…the US has an interest in confronting such forces of evil. I suppose some would say Hitler wasn’t a threat to us either so we should have stayed out of it???!

  5. hrw: You’re still missing it – it’s not about world power, it’s about the extreme threat and danger that the Iranian regime was to Americans, Jews, and the rest of the world (esp. if they were to have a nuclear weapon).

“I am sick of serving in Congress with immoral freaks who abuse their office and bring dishonor to the institution. Congress is rotted to the core and it needs a complete overhaul. The American people deserve better than this.”

“Rep Luna speaks for about 250 million Americans with this statement.

Congress, and the Senate especially, is corrupt to the core and Americans are sick of it.”

  7. Tychicus, is the US the world’s policeman? It seems this is your argument — Iran is a threat to parts of the world, not necessarily the US, so the US should intervene. But if so then what is the criteria for when and where the US should intervene?

Iran has no nukes, is authoritarian at home, and has limited its external activity to Shia majority/ minority groups in the Middle East.

Pakistan has nukes, has a long history of intervening in Afghanistan, has sponsored Muslim radicals in India, and persecutes religion minorities at home

India has nukes, turns a blind eye to persecution of religion minorities at home (Sikhs, Jains, Muslims, Christians), has sponsored terror agents abroad to hunt down exiled opposition leaders, and has been accused of targeting Canadian politicians

Maybe China — it has nukes, persecuted religious and ethnic minorities at home, has very little toleration for political dissents and has set up “police stations” abroad to enforce its political will.

Or maybe Russia — it has nukes, tolerates very little dissent, persecutes minorities, has invaded a neighbouring country, commits assassinations abroad and has credibly been accused of election interference in the western world

maybe North Korea — it has nukes and possibly the ability to reach the US, there is no domestic dissent and has been known to track North Koreans abroad.

or maybe even Israel — it has nukes, it’s actions in Gaza and West Bank can be considered ethnic cleansing if not genocidal, its actions in south Lebanon are similar (they’ve warned Lebanese Christians/Druze not to hide Muslims) and at home they’ve passed a law that discriminates in the application of capital punishment by ethnicity and religion.

    There’s also Turkey, Syria, etc

So many options but the US wants to police Iran? It’s not a credible argument. Iran presents no threat to the US or any western nation for that matter. It’s a regional power whose actions indicate they seek to protect and extend Shia rights and power plus maintain their regime at home. In this way, it threatens the current regional powers of Saudi Arabia and Israel. The only NATO country in the middle east, Turkey, has no issues with Iran.

From the list above, if we are going by an overall threat to the world in general, I’d argue Russia especially if the criteria is what threatens the western democracies. It also fits the concept of maintaining US power — China and Russia are the main threats to the American hegemon — the current debacle Russia finds itself in the Ukraine can be exploited by the US so it can lower Russia power and focus on China (I think that was the Biden’s admin policy but I’m not a mind reader)

  8. Cheryl — I try to limit my comments to what is raised by posts by AJ or others. I think I mentioned Trump’s Easter tweet in passing. It’s clear to me that Trump is unstable and needs an adult in the room. His latest threat to Iran indicates he is willing to order the US military to commit war crimes. It remains to be seen whether he will back down by 8 pm (the markets are betting he will TACO) or he will put the military in the position to decide to obey orders that may land them in the international court. Either way, for the sake of world stability somebody in the administration needs to speak up or the Republican party in the Congress needs to assess who they serve.

Tychicus mentioned the threat Iran poses and I listed other countries that could be considered a greater threat but Trump’s behaviour and Republican tolerance of it makes the US a problem also.

  9. Rep Luna needs a lesson in civics. People are elected by their district and they go to the legislature where they are expected to work with other representatives to create rules and policies that benefit their district. Because the US is a large and diverse country, compromises will be made. People aren’t immoral or rotten to the core because they don’t share your interests, needs or values. This is how a democracy functions. Perhaps you fine tune the rules but a complete overhaul won’t work. If corruption is her issue, perhaps she can work to overturn or limit Citizens United or campaign reform. If money isn’t speech and corporations aren’t people, corruption will decline or at least be easier to enforce

  10. A democracy functions differently than our constitutional republic. And the left definitely view the right as immoral and rotten to the core for supporting this administration. Funny how it was crickets when Biden was being led around by the hand as he knew not where he was where he was going or who he was but suddenly Trump is in mental decline? Picking and choosing his “trigger” words is oh so easy for those who despise him. Just because some like what he is doing in defending this nation does not mean we do not see nor hear some of his more outrageous comments. But I’ll be darn if I will ever support the lying, cheating dastardly deeds of the left. There is a reason they don’t want voter ID…

  11. NJ — its not chess, he’s trying to use real estate techniques and methods in foreign relations and its not working. In his first term, he deferred to the “experts” now he’s doing it his way. He has Witkoff his real estate lawyer with him. Real estate works by making offers with deadlines and then revise and revisit but that’s not how foreign relations work. By now, people including the markets (oil prices dropped prior to Trump’s announcement) and Iran know how he works and are using it against him. We saw this already with tariffs — at first everyone took him seriously but then he TACO’d a few times and people saw patterns and took advantage of him or simply ignored him.

His pause right now may also indicate that Iran is not finished as a power. They have said that they will retaliate if the US attempts to bomb infrastructure. This threat must have been credible for Trump to stall or back down. Or at least it may have been credible to the Emirs who under threat if Iran retaliates. A clue maybe that Iran is still engaging with Israel but is not engaging with the Emirs — a “reward” for pressuring Trump??

The other issue for Trump is at home. MAGA appears to be fracturing and pressure is being applied to Republican politicians. Meanwhile, Hesgeth recently fired some chiefs of staff amid rumours they refused “unlawful” orders. Will the military still listen and follow orders that contain what some may consider war crimes? Is there fractures in the Pentagon? And strangely in all this turmoil, JD Vance is in Hungary campaigning for Orban — why is he out of town?

  12. A constitutional republic is a form of democracy. I live in a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. Different mechanisms and rules but similar principles — ie democracy.

The difference between Biden and this admin is the people in Biden’s cabinet — for the most part they were professionals who had worked their way into those positions and had some experience. You may not like their policies but you know they had experience and knew how gov’t functioned.

Trump seems to have appointed friends and sycophants. Some excell at photo ops while others seem to use their past experience — real estate lawyer, TV hosts – and try to fit it into their present position. A circle in a square hole type. In his first admin, the cabinet appeared more competent and more importantly were willing to be the adult in the room, I don’t see the present cabinet at the same level. I disagree with his policies and ideas in both cases, but the first admin seemed to be far more professional.

  13. Well I suppose the puppet masters behind Biden sure did know how the government works…corruptly….and then there is that pesky auto pen! Professionals? Hmmm

I don’t go on rumors just knowing that the propaganda msn usually is the source for such. But I have been wondering why JD is in Hungary…timing just seems off to me on that.

For us we put our hope in Christ. It is interesting to watch all this unfold
