DENVER — A Colorado House bill advancing through the legislature would bar certain institutions from requiring a social security number for non-employment-based background checks, allowing undocumented students to submit an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) instead as they pursue educational and training opportunities in the state.
To be more precise, Congress vote not to change their current practises regarding sexual misconduct investigations. The reports will continue to be confidential.
At first glance, it seems like the majority of trying to hide but another perspective is possible. Without confidentiality, some may be reluctant to report and at the same time false accusations may become prevalent. In almost any workplace, these types of investigations are kept confidential, HR departments are notoriously secretive. For male elementary teachers, who are frequent targets of false accusations, public reports would not only kill their career but ruin their personal lives. I can see members of Congress having similar concerns.
From what I understand, the immediate motivation behind Mace’s proposal is to make the report regarding Rep Gonzales public. The report concerning Matt Gaetz was eventually made public, why can’t a similar procedure do the same for Rep Gonzales now that he has admitted misconduct. I am interested if the male Republican leadership continued to support Gonzales when the report was written but prior to his public admission. I’m also curious about the gender and party divisions in the vote. Finally, I may disagree with almost all of Mace’s politics but her work in this area is impressive.
Speaking of sexual misconduct — Paxton has a long history of fraud, bribery, and at least one affair. He’s probably not the best candidate. Even the state Republican party impeached him as AG. My guess was his offer to Coryn was a desperate attempt at leverage and/or gaining Trump’s endorsement.
And of course there’s more Epstein files being released yesterday, perhaps Bondi was hoping the war would provide cover. And of course, its one more girl for Republicans to disparage — at what point are there enough accusations?
