Yes, that is a very cool car. I would love to see the ‘eyes.’ Fun.
I just read a post about an assisted living facility that is making a model of a ship. What an awesome thing to do to keep brains active! My dad died in the middle of putting together a several feet long airplane model that all his kids gave him. Fortunately, my niece’s husband would come and work with him on it sometimes and he finished it. Unfortunately, someone in the family took issue with him having the model plane. He did finally get it and hang it in a business of his, but it never should have been an issue. It’s amazing how one person can cause such problems and hard feelings.
My dad had macular degeneration, but always found a way to still read and do things like this to the end of his life. I am glad he could.
I have been out shopping, to Walmart and the Farmer’s Mkt. The Walmart now has a police presence beside where you get buggies/carts at the entrance. We also saw two parked police cars with lights flashing at two locations along the way. I think people have been really affected around here by the deranged man who killed the officer and managed to shoot so many bullets into the CDC building. I looked in awe at the tall black officer at Walmart and told him, “Thank you for your service.”
I have never thought that protesting outside an abortion clinic was either a good or effect means of treating the issue. What a friend had to say at our ladies’ Bible study group on Monday evening underscored my concern.
Missy (not her real name) talked about the earlier years in her marriage, when they were struggling financially and did not have health insurance. While pregnant with her second baby, she would go to the local Planned Parenthood center for prenatal care. She said that the women who worked there were compassionate and helpful. One would hold her first baby while she was having her appointment. (I went to a PP for gynecological care a time or two when I was first on my own.)
But the protesters outside did not know her story, and as she was walking into the center, the way she was treated (the assumption being that she was there for an abortion) made her feel horrible.
(Of course, there is a difference between that kind of protesting, and the gentler ways that many believers engage in. But even there, care is needed to not shame the women needing services of one kind or another.)
Not everyone walking in front of abortion clinics is confrontational. I walked in front of AWARE women’s clinic in Melbourne FL every Saturday. We made ourselves available and listened. I know personally of two babies living today because we were there…available. The Catholics standing in front of the local PP are peaceful and they use their time there praying…
It is stinking hot outside today…we knew it was coming but come on… not this hot!! 🌞
NJ – That’s why I included “Of course, there is a difference between that kind of protesting, and the gentler ways that many believers engage in.” It was the more confrontational kind that I initially referred to.
I saw my first gulf fritillary caterpillar this season today. That makes me very happy. It has been a long time of no see. It’s the little things . . .
To me, unless we are discussing laws concerning abortion, it is more of a moral issue than a political one, although I know it sometimes overlaps. The matter of Christian witness in how some protest or pray or whatnot outside an abortion clinic doesn’t seem particularly political, either, to me. But again, there is overlap there, too, depending on the point of the comment.
last day of summer for the local grands. I took them for a few hours and we had fun. Spent an hour in the pool. Boy did the youngest splash me.
Then I took them back to mom and they were going to see their classrooms and meet the teacher.
Tomorrow is our first deaconess meeting. Bible studies don’t start for a few more weeks so I am thinking it would be a good time for a vacation. Any ideas??
We had corn on the cob from our garden for supper today. Soooo good. Husband picked 73 ears of corn and processed most of them. He still needs to can the last bunch, but we had a big storm and the power is out.
I sure wish my dad would be able to do something. He can’t read because his eyesight is too bad, he can’t watch TV (loves sports) because he keeps messing up with the remote. It’s so sad. He wouldn’t even be able to operate a CD player of listen to audiobooks because he just likes to fiddle with everything and then it doesn’t work.
Oh to have freshly harvested corn! My Uncle Bud had fields of corn back home in Ohio…sounds delicious Kare!
My Mom always messes up the tv with her remote and can’t figure out how to get it back to rights. Her sweet neighbor usually figures it out. Can your Dad listen to the sports station on a radio Kare? Praying for your Dad…❣️
The owner calls it Tweety.
it has covers on the headlights that look like eyeballs. 👀

I guess I am confused. I thought that would be an issue for the political thread?

I bought corn on the cob today raised in a state up north. It’s always interesting to see how far veggies travel to get to our tables.

Janice – My comment was not meant in a political way.
