Good morning! We had the hottest day yet this year yesterday at 90°. I don’t think it will be hot today since we have storms expected.
I am so glad that Art committed to doing the devotions with me in the booklet the church gave out last Sunday. I think they must plan to do this at least weekly for a month. It is encouraging people to show up and get their booklet. And it encourages the whole family to begin a family devotional time.
Janice, I was heartbroken to hear about Miss Bosley and the trials you all are going through right now; she’s so dear and special to all of us and has been for so many years. 😦 Praying with you all.
It was a rather busy and chaotic week here capped off with a rare little work Friday night dinner out at an area marina. We all work remotely and come from far and wide so we see each other now hardly ever “in person.” Getting together in what are still physically isolated times in our struggling business is beyond difficult with the geographical and scheduling challenges.
Speaking of cats. After working for years to develop a beautiful bird friendly environment here, we destroyed it in one fell swoop. We have had many swallows nesting in the eaves and eating mosquitos. They had a good start with lots of nests. But now the nests are all empty and few adults around. I knew the fledglings were at risk but who knew cats could leap that high to snag them off the nests?
Hummingbirds. We usually have six or eight this time of year at our feeders. We had several a month ago but we are down to one maybe. Cats? Bird flu? Combination?
That is sad, Mumsee. So sorry to hear of those losses. It speaks into the argument of keeping cats indoors. Miss Bosley has been our only true indoor cat.
We had a great service today with a missionary from the Horn of Africa speaking. He spoke on the story of the friends who lowered their afflicted friend on a mat through the roof to see Jesus. He has a pretty heavy accent, but I could understand what he said by paying close attention.
We are also having a focus on prayer. We had times of Scripture reading and then praying silently, individually at our seats. A musician played during that time, quietly, but I get caught up in remembering words to the song so it distracts me, totally, from prayer. I feel like mentioning that, but I don’t want to sound grumpy. The music is beautiful and soft.
On a good note, this is the first time in several years I have even bothered to plant a garden as the cats have done an excellent job mousing. Before, we would plant seeds and the mice would remove them over night. Though I did notice two large mice and a baby shrew on the front porch this morning. Gifts.

Strange times.

Thanks for keeping us in prayer.
We’ve just had a bad storm and power is out. I hope no one has gotten hurt from falling trees or limbs.
Miss Bosley just ate some dry food. She threw up the chicken earlier. Glad the dry food seems to be working for her.

My grandfather Charlie, a nurseryman by trade, from Iowa loved to see the swallows return at the Capistrano Mission on his California visits.

Sweet gifts from those showing you honor and appreciation for letting them squat (live) on your property!
