  1. Wondering if Kizzie ever found a better way than Turbo to get her taxes done? I do remember that it was said that the IRS route seemed too complicated, but if one is able to go in there and just get the needed form to fill out without their assistance then that sounds pretty straightforward. But maybe they make even that too difficult?

  2. Janice – In great frustration, I gave up on TurboTax. Since the short form is all I need, I decided to do it myself. According to the IRS site, I need a high-quality printer if I want to print out the forms. However, I do not have a high-quality printer. (A printer, yes. High-quality, no.) Therefore, Nightingale is going to pick up the forms for me at the post office, but probably won’t be able to do that until tomorrow.

I will be relieved to finally get them done.

  3. Had a bit of a chuckle this morning. I accidentally wore some green today.

What I mean by that is that I was not thinking of what day it is, other than Monday, when I picked out my clothes. A little while later, when I realized that it is St. Patrick’s Day, I realized that I had chosen the only top I have that has a little bit of green in it. 🙂

  4. I made corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots in the crock pot yesterday.

Right now the shredded and chopped remaining corned beef is in a Reuben casserole in the oven.

I prefer it yesterday’s method, Cheryl prefers today’s method.

I will eat either really, but must be careful with cabbage.

  5. Pink sweatshirt and blue jeans here.

Kizzie, I remember a few years back when I worked at the office that people had to have special circumstances to paper file. Perhaps that did not apply to short forms. From what I recall I think IRS wanted everything e-filed probably because it is more efficient now. They probably have cut way down on paper processor positions in IRS. You may want to check on the wait time to receive a refund from a paper filed return.

  6. I suppose it’s sad that I don’t observe St Patrick’s Day at all, considering that my mother’s family came from Ireland. But that was over 300 years ago, so I don’t think about it much.

Mumsee, I’m glad you like Squeezy.

  7. Kevin – We don’t really observe it, either, other than a good excuse for a nice corned beef and cabbage dinner once a year. If I think of it, I will try to wear something with green in it, just for kicks.

Hmmm. . . So maybe that is observing it after all?

I think we will probably have that corned beef dinner tomorrow night, though, because it is not currently in the crockpot.

  8. My wardrobe is very heavily green. Right now I’m wearing a black-watch top (that’s dark green and navy plaid) over a green shirt with green pants. And not because it’s St Patrick’s Day, but because that’s one of my “walking” outfits.

As a child I wasn’t allowed to wear green for St Patrick’s Day, and my arm would get so sore from pinching. Every child in the class who forgot to wear green would claim to be wearing green underwear, so that pretty much just left me as the pinchable one, and the same kids would pinch me repeatedly over the course of the day. My parents would say, “Just pinch them back,” but I knew that wasn’t how it worked. One time I was leaving the house to go to school and realized I was wearing green pants, and made the mistake of commenting it was St Patrick’s Day, and Mom made me go change. I really kicked myself for that one!!

When I was really little, the girls’ bedroom was pink and we had Raggedy Ann curtains with letter blocks on them. At some point it was too childish a room, and so our parents asked what color we wanted the walls. I said green, and my sister was OK with that, so we had pale green walls. Green is the color of spring, and emerald green and mint green are my favorite shades.

  9. Blue is my favorite color, but green is close.

The pinching was mentioned when I was in school, but never much done and if it was, it was not hard pinching. That just sounds like bullying to me.

We have a lot of volunteers who will do taxes for free, too. I wonder if you should look into that, Kizzie, for next time. Or now if you haven’t done it yet. Our library used to have forms, but I don’t know if they still do.

  10. I gave the lady tax preparer at Art’s office a late Christmas gift. It was a muted shade of green, soft blazer look, jacket, although she called it a sweater. (Land’s End called it a blazer.) I told her it was so late that it could be considered a Chrispatrick Day gift for her to wear today. If she is working in the office today, she probably has it on. She does much of her work at home.

  11. My mom realized that pinching and teasing was not good for young children to have to endure; so I always was dressed in green on St. Patrick’s day … with just a small orange patch pinned to my dress, not very visible. 🙂 Politically correct, we were.

I love black watch plaid and our family tartan is similar, mostly green and black with a thin yellow stripe …

I had a black watch plaid duvet for many years on my bed comforter, loved that and looked for another one later when that one wore out but never found one again.

mumsee, I think tan / khaki is a very fashionable color again now.

  12. My brother and his wife always set up creative but odd displays in their front yard on a busy street. They probably hit every special day. They got their St Patrick display set up. Yesterday they found a nice display of flowers and a thank you card on the front porch or in the mail or by courier. Anyway, it expressed appreciation for their many years of fun displays to brighten folks’ commute. I thought that was nice.

  13. I found Black Watch plaid flannel hoodies for our family (husband, son, and me) at LL Bean several years back. We have not worn them all together. I thought they were very nice and practical. I selected them because while son was at Covenant College, his dorm wing was known as Black Watch. Covenant College was also known as The Scots.
