  1. It sounds like we may get some significant snow this week. It is time. I would prefer not to get 30 inches at once, however.

My husband remembers having a tree with candles on it. How they never had a fire is a testament to God’s grace, I think. Of course, the tree was carefully watched also.

I never experienced that. However, we always had real trees until I was older. They were never put up early like they are today. Our first Christmas married and many more were celebrated with real trees. After really suffering allergy issues one year we switched to an artificial tree and the judicious use of a pine scented candle.

We used to have a very realistic looking one (which one of my daughters now uses) but now have a skinny tree. I will put it up and decorate, although I am not sure anyone else will see it or not. I can understand not wanting to bother, however, when no one else visits.

Our homes should be decorated with those things that bring us joy, IMO.

  2. The church we attended when I was a child had candles on the tree. On every window sill was a bough of pine with a taper candle. One Sunday morning the sill candle burned low and caught the pine on fire. Our Pastor walked over and beat out the fire with his stole that was around his neck…not skipping a beat in his message!!😂

I was perplexed as to why my parents didn’t put up a tree as they aged… I now understand. They did have one of those ceramic table top trees with the tiny lights because my Aunt made it for them 🎄

All that snow is gone from the trees but not from the ground. We are predicted to get another snowstorm on Tuesday….hopefully not as much this time!

  3. Another lovely scene on the header. Hallmark movie worthy.♡

We were out early to get the emissions check done on my car which I cannot drive. We arrived just before 8 and the guy arrived on time, thankfully. I had called a few days back to be sure Saturday hours were earlier than other days of the week. I told the tech that I write Google reviews and would give him a good one. It is already posted.

  4. I have already had a nap after taking a friend to the airport at 4am. I had her drive. After dropping her off I took an extensive trip around the airport, at one point wondering if I was headed for the runway, looking for the free waiting area, which they had moved.
so glorious of God to let me admire the full moon and watch the sunrise on the way home.

my car said it was 29 outside when I got home and was ready for a nap

  5. Kathaleena, the skinny pencil trees remind me of the sub-alpine firs we would get for our tree when we lived in the mountains. They were always nice and full of branches but narrow and fit so nicely into a corner without taking over the room.

  6. For those who no longer want to deal with a full-size Christmas tree, but still like the idea of some kind of Christmas tree, there are a variety of smaller ones. The new one I have is three feet tall and fits nicely on top of the entertainment center, which I call my mantel. There are two-foot trees, too, and maybe even smaller.

(The entertainment center is wooden, and kind of in the mode of a bookcase. Not a modern-looking one. It is four feet tall, five feet wide, and about 16 inches deep, I think. Just right for mantel-type decorations.)

  7. NJ – Last night you mentioned the scripture about Jesus being the Light of the world. That reminded me that a previous pastor talked about enjoying driving around to see the Christmas lights on houses each year, and that he kept that scripture in mind as he did so. 🙂

  8. I bought a smallish lighted flocked tree last year and may get it up when son is home at Thanksgiving. It will be a challenge with Miss Bosley who has never had a tree before. It will be owned by her, of course. She has been a bother today, jumping up on the computer desk and trying to scratch the large screen while I was on the phone with my friend. She can so easily go into Betty Bad mode.

We do have an entry way closet that has a space above it with an angled window over our front porch. I once put a small tree up there. That is a cat proof level, but she could pull on the electric cord to topple the tree. Where there is a will, there is a way.

  9. My neighbor and I resumed our walking today. The wind was freezing our faces off but we did it! She had noticed my tree in the window and ordered a new tree that was to be delivered today. She has been thoroughly inspired! 🎄

Kizzie I love that focus as we reflect upon the beauty of the lights. ❣️

Janice Miss Bosley certainly has kept you on your toes!!! When she lands on the tree you need to send a pic to Aj for us all to see!!

  10. We had a real tree when I was growing up and in one of the houses I shared with five other single guys in my twenties.

Mrs B’s allergies never allowed for a real tree. In thirty years we’ve had two different floor to ceiling artificial ones. We still enjoy decorating it, but I’m getting tired of assembling and disassembling it. It might be time to find an easier one.

No snow on the horizon yet in southeast Michigan, but I guess we’ve had some rain and it looks like more is coming this week. I’m much more tolerant of snow than Peter is, I’ll take it for a month before I’m ready for spring. 🙂

  11. Now they are predicting rain instead of snow. It would have been about a foot of snow, so I am okay with the rain. However, it is time for snow here. I have pictures with deep snow this time of year and those with none. That is why ‘normal’ can be deceptive.

  12. My experience with subalpine is the height of summer when the snows are gone. Usually backpacking into the wilderness but also in the national forest camping.
