Longshore strike at East and Gulf ports, our ports not affected other than we will likely see diverted ships coming our way. Unclear if there will be any “solidarity” actions by our longshore union (which is a separate union but there is a strong connection when things like this take place).
NJ & RKessler – Re: Pete Rose and the Cincinnati Reds – My prime growing up years (from 8 to almost 16) were spent in Centerville, Ohio and Miamisburg, Ohio (but only a little over a year there). In middle school, I, too, won tickets to Reds’ games for good grades.
Those were the days (mid-70s) of the heyday of the Reds, with Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Joe Morgan playing during those years. 🙂
I have been listening to the Paul biography with ears attentive to hear any wrong teaching. So far so good. Just getting background info to compare to what I “read” in the Christian Biblical fiction book.
In the fiction book Paul got married but his wife and child died in childbirth which was a speculation about that part of his life. In the biography several scenarios are speculated, but NT Wright thinks most likely that Paul was engaged to a devout Jewish girl but when he converted that she and her parents chose to break off the engagement.
I can always skip over any parts that seem to go down rabbit trails. I don’t have to throw out the baby with the bath water. The book is very engaging and makes history come alive for me.
The Big Red Machine days! Those successive years of winning the series with Sparky Anderson at the helm. Those were truly the good ol’ days! Kizzie I had kin living in Miamisburg! Ohio will always be home😊
Michelle, it is always interesting to me to think of how writers fill in the blanks when writing historical fiction.
I accept that the Bible gives us enough info for God’s purposes without giving unnecessary details. His word is perfect and sufficient as given.
Before I ever read Biblical fiction, I questioned if it was really okay to write it or read it because the Bible is enough. Now I feel it is good because it can create interest for people to pick up a Bible and read it.
Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here.

Culturally as a rabbi, he would have been married. We don’t know how old he was or if he was anything other than himself.
I always fall back on “if God wanted me to know that fact, it would be in Scripture.”
That doesn’t mean he never married, it just means it’s not important to the rest of us.

The Chosen is an example of Biblical fiction with a lot of speculation. Actually, it’s mostly speculation. It has its problems but I enjoy watching.

I actually watched about half of the debate and then turned it off. That was enough for me. I admired one candidate

Janice, it’s good you were able to talk it over with your son, and good you’re looking to use discernment in reading.
Peter, having a human being play Jesus is a bridge way too far for me, even without the made-up story lines.
