Strange about the missing iris, Janice. I bet you will be happy when all is back to order.
We are back to cool weather in the sixties. And we will be home. Thus, it is a baking day. Even my husband said he doesn’t want to do music so much. Fortunately, next week has fewer gigs.
Yesterday they performed at the assisted living facility where several residents have relocated from their usual ‘practice’ building. It was nice to see several residents come from the usual place to visit those relocated residents and watch the group. One woman, who turned ninety confessed to me how difficult it is to visit a nursing home. I find it difficult as well. The music helps.
This is also the place where there is a woman who always comes up to thank the group. She has a difficult time not crying from gratitude. I never realized what a blessing this could be for some people. It is such a blessing to be able to bring that kind of joy.
What a blessing you all are to them Kathaleena. I know the men play the music, but it seems you are providing a friendly ear and some conversation to them as well. I’m sure they appreciate that too. 🙂
Kathleen, that is a wonderful ministry and so needed. My former church, and the in person Bible study group there which I attend, has a singing ministry called Prime Notes which goes to nursing homes. They have one guy who tells humorous stories and jokes. The church owns a small bus they use for these visits. I could attend with them but never have. They are blessed by participation as much as the residents at the homes.
My mother was in an assisted living home but never in a true nursing home except for when she was in a rehab wing of a nursing home after surgery. I loved all the activities that the assisted living facility had for residents. It was so much more fun than what my mom had at home.
Cloudy with a chance of rain! 55 degrees and we are loving it!😊
Kathaleena you all have a sweet ministry to these precious ones. I am thankful you get to have a stay at home day and I bet your house is full of sweet aromas of baked goods! I might have to bake some rolls today!
cooler today here as it is only supposed to get to 99. I went with a friend to the fair yesterday for a time of music and praise. I’m sure that the walking was good for me
It’s 94° and feels like 101°. Not a pleasant day to be outside. That being said, I did sit outside for a few minutes and while out a young, maybe high school age, black guy came by with a clip board. He was collecting signatures for a petition about minimum wage. I spoke kindly to him but told him I choose not to sign. I told him with concern that I hope he does not get too hot in all this heat. I also said I appreciate what he is doing . . . I assume he is being paid or doing volunteer work and not casing houses.
I remember canvassing a neighborhood for a campaign for government class we could work for any party but needed to put in a certain number of hours. I hope nobody asked me about the issues because I would have had no idea! But I put in my time.
Anyone ever see the 1954 movie “Return to Treasure Island” starring Tab Hunter?
I’m writing an obituary today about one of our longtime former residents who grew up (literally) on one of our town’s secluded beaches where her dad, who worked in Hollywood, also managed to make a living as a beachcomber and had a little stand on La Cienega Blvd. where he sold his treasures. The family built a house at the foot of the cliffs and the kids all grew up there in the 1940s and ’50s (when people could actually do something that idyllic).
Anyway, I digress. “Return to Treasure Island” was largely filmed on their little patch of beach but was far from a Hollywood classic.
From Wikipedia:
~ According to Tab Hunter, the film “prompted (co-star) Dawn Addams to immediately marry Prince Don Vittorio Massimo and move to Italy. It prompted Dupont to never make another movie. His decision or not, I don’t know. For my part, whatever strides I’d made as an actor were lost in the stink of this fiasco. Even my mother weighed in with a brutally frank assessment: “You were lousy,’ she pronounced, bolting from the theater lobby.” ~
One of the quotes from a book the deceased later wrote:
“What a magical place, with 2,000 feet of waterfront, right on the Pacific Ocean,” she wrote in her book “View From the Top of the Mast” published in 2008. “We all pitched in to help Daddy build our house from materials found on the beach. At the end of a hard day’s work, we climbed into sleeping bags in front of a crackling, colorful fire. We watched the stars twinkle through the swaying palm fronds above, as the moon rose over the cliff, pouring its light all over the ocean. We fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks on the beach.”
And because of her dad’s Hollywood connections, her high school prom date was then an obscure young actor named Raymond Burr (her date fell through so Burr, a family friend, agreed to be her escort).

Good morning, all. 65 headed to 86 here.
The bike incident fellow is back to his normal jovial self and the air is filled with fowl humor.

I think, “It wasn’t your best work, dear,” would have been a little kinder than “You were lousy.” 😀

Yes, that was a bit harsh 🙂
