I awakened Art at 6:30 with a suggestion that we go vote at 7 a.m., then get breakfast at Waffle House before going to get my car emissions check at the place which would open at 8 a.m. We got it all done, and it was ennoyable.
We were first for our precinct at the doubled up polling location. At first the new little voter ID verifying machine did not work and we were rejected, but the machines had been plugged in backwards. Once the plug was removed and put in properly, we got our cards to vote. It was a local sales tax and honestead exemption issue we had to vote on. Not many will vote on it, so glad we did.
Yesterday felt like Friday (and a long story to do plus getting a photo assignment set up for this morning) as I’m off the rest of this week. But today is mostly cataract surgery (and recovery) prep — getting caught up with laundry, getting trash out early, doing any last minute grocery pickups (but I think I’m good there).
I don’t have to be at the surgery center until 7 a.m. tomorrow, much better than the last time *(6:30 a.m.); and with the time change, it will be much lighter on the morning drive over there; real estate guy will be taking me and picking me up.
I’ll get Abby out for a walk today, missed that yesterday as work was busy and went long; and this time change still is requiring some walk changes unless I go back to walking after dark. And there probably won’t be walks for the first few days after the surgery.
Jo, so sorry for the midnight feelings and mood battles. Those are hard. Prayers.
I had a wonderful hour and a half prayer call with two ladies in my Bible study group. We each attend a different church now. I am feeling especially blessed to have prayed with these ladies today. Where two or three are gathered . . .
When we got back from Greece and Italy, son had his stuff shipped back with ours as he had no place to put anything in the States, except our outbuilding. Then he left a bunch of stuff. We brought in his kitchen shelving and put it to use.
When my step mom died and my dad moved here, my brothers gave me the China cabinet my folks bought when mom first got cancer. It is set up in the dining room with their silver set and family photos where dad can see it.
When my father in law came west, they loaded up the China cabinet he and their mom had purchased after they all moved out. Sister got it but sister just moved to a bigger place and bought all new stuff and does not want it so here it comes.
I think we will move out the second piano somebody gave us when their home was being foreclosed and place it there. We seem to be th e repository for all things people do not want to throw away.
My eyes are still blurry from getting drops for an annual eye exam. It surprises me how these make me feel the last few years. I feel slightly dizzy and like I have motion sickness. (It made me think of you, Janice) It is one thing that does not seem to bother my husband at all. I also made the first appointment for cataract surgery. I thought it would be for after the holidays, but it is for this month already. Not sure when the actual surgery will be. I am so ready for it, though. This would have been better done in the summertime, but I had other things going then and was not ready yet.
My 2nd cataract surgery originally was to be done on 10/11 but it got bumped when I had cold symptoms the day before. So I’m ready to get this wrapped up, already, I was hoping by now I’d have my new glasses and it would all be behind me in time for the pre-holiday season.
But you’ll be very glad to have it done, Kathaleena. I opted for just the basic lens as two eye doctors told me the fancier ones (one would have corrected my astigmatism) tend to come with more complications. They also cost $2,000 per eye (so $4,000) out of pocket, money I really didn’t have just easily laying around.
So I’ll still need glasses but they’ll be not nearly so strong as the prescriptions I’ve had for a few years now. Based on the one eye that’s been done, my distance vision is way better — even than what it was with my most recent glasses. My eye doctor who recently retired told me, ‘You’ll be very happy with the results,” and I think he’s right.
A friend also just had cataract surgery and she’s thrilled, so she was a big encouragement for me. She also still needs glasses, but her basic vision is way better than it’s been in ages.
Oh, and ask if they do dropless surgeries, I went that route (my surgeon is young and most of them have used it for several years); so glad I didn’t have to hassle with the numerous drops I was told is the protocol generally after these surgeries for up to a month (per eye).
For husband’s surgery last week, I dropped him at the entrance to the hospital and told him to text me when he was done😳
Then I went shopping and to lunch with a friend. I hope that doesn’t make me a ‘bad’ wife😁. He’s had so many surgeries over the past couple of years that I don’t even feel the need to hang out at the hospital to wait for him anymore. (3 knee, 1 gallbladder, 1 umbilical hernia, 2 sinus, etc).
I was just finishing lunch when he texted that he was ready to go home.
Kare, Kare, Kare. You are an amateur, Grasshopper.
Many years ago, about twenty seven, when we were stationed at West Point, I stayed home with four children while he walked to the hospital for his knee surgery. I did go pick him up with the van when it was over.
How much are turkeys where you all live? I just saw one for $82!! was a 20lb turkey. We did find a smaller one for $24 (13lb) at another store but…. Wow!
Cheapest turkey at the grocery I saw today was 1.89 a pound…not one was under 25pounds!!! And these were the store brand. Butterball was 2.29 a pound and all were over 20 pounds …. Better catch one of those wandering about the forest! 🦃

Husband, son in law, son, all went to Boise today to pick up a China hutch and book cases. Plan to be back tonight.
What does one do with a China hutch?

Never had a china hutch or grew up with one. I’d convert it to hold books, of course.

Not back surgery, I believe it was that challenge they were given a couple of years ago. She said “back in surgery”.

Settle down, Tim, it was only a couple of short blocks, at least that is how I remember it.
Step out the door and get one for free.
