Our gas prices used to be under the national average, but those days are over. So far, we are not as bad as Cali, but our governor and others are trying to change that. We are just under $4.00 right now. One close city can be ten cents or less than another. We get it there if we know we will be going there. Otherwise, it is cheaper to pay more than waste gas driving elsewhere. No reason for the difference, except they can. Their gas prices went down when Walmart started selling gas there.

We’ve remained relatively comfortable and even cool throughout this past summer and even through September, which often is our month to bake with the hot desert winds blowing out to the ocean. You’ll get no complaints from me, camping in the low 70s — with occasional morning drizzles — for months now has been delightful.
Showered, sipping coffee and it’s Saturday. I’m in my happy space.
Boise visit is over. Got some tests done. The technicians did not appear alarmed.
Enjoyed several days with some other grandchildren.
Returned to find the sixteen and seventeen were not able to keep on track for the four days. Son in law kept them fed. Brother wondered how I keep sane.

Kathaleena – My small town tends to have gas prices, as well as food prices at the grocery store, which is part of a small chain, above those of other, bigger towns. We are often told that it has to do with the business market. A larger business market can sustain lower prices, but the smaller markets like our small town, cannot. 😦
Nightingale tends to do the shopping at the Aldi store in the town where she works, but there are certain items that she prefers to get at the local grocery store. Every now and then, she might do more shopping there if she doesn’t want to waste the gas to go out of town, if she doesn’t have much to get.
As someone has said, they charge more because they can. Some people in town – the ones who don’t have transportation or the gas money to go out of town – are a captive audience, so to speak. 😦
This is from a few weeks ago on the day after this pastor buried his father, who was a good friend of ours. We’ve known the family for over 40 years, since this pastor was in grade school.
Sep 11, 2023 REDEEMING GRACE CHURCH
As a result of spending considerable time visiting in a local hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), certain Bible truths became more obviously clear and practical:
1. The human body is an amazing creation (Ps. 139:13-14).
2. Sickness and death are inescapable (2Cor. 4:16,5:2-4).
3. God is sovereign over our lives (James 4:13-15).
4. Relationships grow through sacrifice (John 15:12-13).
5. God’s Word provides genuine comfort (2Cor. 1:3-4).
6. God powerfully answers prayer (James 5:13-15).
7. Make the most of our remaining time (Eph. 5:14-16).
Thanks for sharing that, Peter. Although none of us want it, the ICU can be a wonderfully clarifying experience. I heartily testify to all 7 of those Biblical truths. God is good, faithful, and in control regardless of what painful and confusing circumstances we find ourselves in. And he can create amazing and beautiful outcomes even from the most painful or vile experiences. What a God!
Oh, what a wonderful Global Missions kickoff service I saw just now online!
A pastor from a church in my hometown, about twenty minutes from here, did the sermon. He is an Orthodox Presbyterian minister from Africa who preached in my Southern Baptist church. He knows persecution first hand. Hr did a great sermon.
It’s such a blessing that my pastor is a true catalyst for bringing community churches together. Miss Bosley and I listened together in our shared area of the house.😀
Bro seems to be doing well in most ways. We walk, and talk, and watch movies and sports on tv. Miss Bosley has “Daddy time” for breakfast with Art and me, and some free roam time late in the day. I am improving my juggling skills as I try to keep happiness and peace in the household. Food service is good thanks to the chef.
Grands are due to come at some point. I said that I would pick them up after church, daughter said they would give me some catch up time and bring them by later. They haven’t been here since mid July. I am thinking that they said that they didn’t want to come. I do not buy treats on command. Oh, well.

Tomorrow I drive back to SF to pick up my friends on Tuesday. I plan on stopping at Costco on the way to buy some small heaters for the downstairs bedroom and my bathroom.
Also I want to stop at the airport to sign up for TSA precheck. Then I can decide where to go. 🙂

Good windy Saturday!! Summer is encroaching upon Autumn’s turf!!! But winter will sneak in on Tuesday!!
Gas at Murphy’s was 3.56 yesterday…we had been hovering close to 4.00.
