  1. Morning. This week is like the first day of school as all of the Bible studies are beginning for the year.
It is sorta a Chas moment, better get it done as this is the last day.
Which is why I went to Tahoe on a shopping trip last week

  2. Oh, Jo, I used to love the start of BSF in the fall, too. Enjoy. What’s the study this year? Someday I’ll get back into that for a day class, but it’s too much currently. I was also a group leader for the last several years — night classes — which added to the load, but it was all joy (but also some added work on top of working full time).

So it’s supposed to be 82 today with light rain expected. We’ve had some uncommon sultry weather the past few days which is supposed to break by mid-week. Low to mid 80s but it’s felt much warmer due to the unusually high (for us) humidity. Very overcast here this morning.

I walked Abby later last night, around 8, after getting some texts and a phone call right at 7 p.m. when our regular walk time is (and it’s still a bit light outside). I was going to skip the walk but Abby was so excited when I stepped into the backyard at around 8 p.m. — she started jumping and running, “it’s walk time for Abby!!” so I couldn’t say no. We took a shorter, more level route but it was good. We may be missing some walks going forward following this cataract surgery on Thursday.

  3. Dj, this year we are studying John. Of course I have done it before, but it will still be good. Then next year will be a new study for me, Revelation. I thought it would be good to do John as a lead in to Revelation.

Also the focus has shifted in BSF and they are reaching out to young moms and the homeschool moms. Lots and lots of children. Really working on reaching the next generation.

Our group is being even more creative. We have moms who are leaders, so this year the leaders are having their meeting for training on the same day as class. They will meet at 8 and then we meet at 10 or 10:15. Makes it much easier for them to just have one day.

  4. Just to mention, my knee is so much better. I still need to do more walking to strengthen my leg, but the pain seems to be gone. Also most days I am still going to the pool.
I have been wearing bike shorts and that really helps. Then I put on a skirt over them if I am going somewhere.

  5. Our leaders’ meetings for a while were at 5 a.m. on a weekday, brutal. Then, after I moved and was in another BSF group, the leaders’ meetings were Saturday mornings, not so early, which was better, it was easier for those of us who worked (which was most of us) and early enough (but not horrifyingly early!) on a Saturday that it left your day for the weekend activities and rest.

Yes, I know BSF has been so many changes in the past several years, some of it good from the sounds of it.

We spent a year with in-depth, expository preaching through Revelation recently. A complicated book, with many interpretations as the language used is so symbolic (but refers back to the rest of the Scripture, though even with that there are differences of viewpoints throughout church history and in various traditions and oh-so-many-commentaries; it’s not as straight-forward as we sometimes think).

It will be interesting to hear how BSF navigates that one!

Our pastor approached preaching on Revelation initially some 30 years as a new pastor, thinking, “how hard can it be?” He literally stopped in the middle of his sermon (back then) when he realized he’d written what one of the commentaries asserted and he couldn’t see how they got “there.” Short sermon that day, he said, and he spent years going over the book, backwards and forwards, before he felt secure enough to broach it from the pulpit in depth.

Glad the knee is better for now! I was grateful for that as well when it seemed to abate, mostly due to PT and, later, some shots. Eventually, however … I was very grateful I only needed the lesser of the 2 surgeries, the partial replacement, the joint is still all mine and working well. I’m so grateful all is well with it now.

  6. The bike shorts sound helpful and probably similar to the “knee sleeve” I wore for the year leading up to my surgery, inexpensive on Amazon and really helped at that time.

  7. Swimming is also probably good to prevent any possible further damage! You might want to get an MRI to find out exactly what’s going on and the best course forward at some point.

  8. What I have focused on with my knee lately is the lack of circulation. It was being cut off and I think that was the problem. So the bike shorts help with that. Also my foot is not aching so much either.

  9. I saw a very touching Instagram reel for remembering 9/11 from son’s universitity. People were walking in a large square formation up and down the field bleachers reminding of all the people using the stairs to get out on that horrific day

  10. Yay, editor said I can take Tuesday and Wednesday off leading up to Thursday’s surgery. Then I’ll take Thursday/Friday off as sick days and … we will see how I am by Monday.

Supposed to be a relatively quick and easy recovery from these surgeries but I have mostly heard that from folks who didn’t have a job they were returning to.

The sun is out. We didn’t get any rain where I am but I guess there was some somewhere nearby in the LA area.

  11. Michelle, I believe you are the one who has talked positively on Eric Metaxas. Based on that, I picked a video of him talking at an Arizona church on the fine tuning argument for God. I started it while dad was eating, as I generally do so he can join in without being forced to watch. He came in and got a very nice picture of the awesomeness of God and that He knows him by name and desires to have him in eternity with him. He heard of various atheists who came to their senses by following the science to the Truth. Thank you. May God be glorified in his heart and mind.

  12. Mumsee, the book, Miracles, by Metaxas, has that info in the first section about the miracle of the existense of the earth and solar system that required such fine-tuning. So happy your dad had ears to hear that! Some people lose their hesring at a much younger age. All in God’s timing and plans.
