“California Tells Residents Not To Charge Electric Vehicles Because Of Blackouts A Week After Saying State Would Ban Sale Of Gas Cars…”

“California residents are being told not to charge their electric vehicles due to possible blackouts just one week after the state announced it would ban the sale of gas-powered cars in 2035.

The state issued a heat advisory Tuesday, warning excessive heat “will stress [the] energy grid.”

“Consumers are urged to reduce energy use from 4-9 p.m. when the system is most stressed because demand for electricity remains high and there is less solar energy available,” the state said in the notice. “The top three conservation actions are to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights.”

“The state of California earlier in August banned the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035 as it tries to transition toward electric vehicles. The state also set interim targets, requiring 35% of vehicles sold in the state by 2026 to produce zero emissions, increasing to 68% by 2030. California is the nation’s largest auto market.”

  3. “A Litany of Failure

    Assessing progressive criminal-justice policies”

“For the last decade, radical prosecutors and progressive politicians have been proposing and enacting illogical criminal-justice policies, often with little consideration for the real-world effects of these ideas. Enough time has passed for an evidence-based assessment of how these policies have played out in the real world.

Gun Buybacks: Politicians in big cities believe that gun-buyback programs will reduce the violent crime that is spiking in America’s urban centers. But comprehensive research shows no evidence that such programs work. Philadelphia just completed a three-year gun-buyback program that yielded over 1,000 firearms. Not a single recovered firearm was linked to violent crime and, during the course of the program, Philadelphia set new all-time records for homicides. “It’s not reaching the area of the community that’s possessing illegal guns and using them,” says criminologist Joseph Giacalone. “It’s political theater.”

“Violence Interrupters”: Progressive prosecutors tout violence interrupters—former gang members and convicts who mediate disputes on the streets—as a serious weapon against crime. Cities led by “reform” prosecutors, such as Baltimore, Indianapolis, and Philadelphia have staked a lot on this idea. The results have not been encouraging. Multiple violence interrupters have been murdered in Baltimore. In Indianapolis, the former convict in charge of training violence interrupters was arrested for threatening a woman and had to be fired. In Philadelphia, a violence interrupter shot three people in a bar while he was working his anti-violence job. And a recent research paper states that violence interrupters, despite their tough histories, are suffering from severe trauma, mainly because they are being exposed to the type of violence that police officers face every day (imagine that). The real question for violence-interruption programs is whether they might be adding fuel to the fire of violent crime.

Decarceration: Liberal policy groups like the Prison Policy Initiative, with the support of legal academics, have railed against “mass incarceration” in the United States for decades, asserting that the United States could free thousands of prisoners, even violent criminals, without affecting public safety. For their argument to make any sense, they have to push for the release of violent criminals because—as even leading decarceration advocate John Pfaff concedes—the vast majority of criminals are incarcerated for violent crimes. The decarceration advocates largely have seen their wishes granted. According to the Pew Research Center, by 2019, incarceration rates in America had fallen to the same level as 1995, then were reduced even further during the Covid-19 pandemic. How is that working out? The United States saw its biggest single-year rise in homicide in 2020, and the murder rates continued to rise in 2021. Homicides in many cities reached levels unseen since the 1990s, when incarceration rates were as low as they are now. The incarceration-versus-violent-crime relationship is statistically complex, but the wholesale release of violent criminals serves as one more contributor to increasing murders in American cities.

No Cash Bail: Fair and Just Prosecution, a think tank for radical prosecutors, has long championed a “no cash bail” policy, claiming that detaining people pretrial is simply a way of locking up the poor. In 2020, New York passed legislation substantially reducing the state’s ability to keep even violent criminals detained after they were arrested. The resulting spike in violent crimes by defendants released back to the streets led even Democratic New York governor Kathy Hochul to roll back this misguided reform in 2022, much to the relief of police and citizens. It turns out that detaining violent criminals between arrest and trial is vital for public safety. Who knew?

De-Prosecution: From Alvin Bragg in Manhattan to George Gascón in Los Angeles to Larry Krasner in Philadelphia, the progressive-prosecutor playbook relies on a policy of de-prosecution, the decision not to prosecute crimes even when the facts and evidence are sufficient to convict defendants. Prosecutors’ decision effectively to nullify criminal laws passed by state legislatures has had a disastrous effect on violent crime in big cities. A recent study using a synthetic control algorithm attributes an extra 74 homicides per year to the de-prosecution policy in Philadelphia, where prosecutions have dropped by a staggering 70 percent for both felonies and misdemeanors. The same methodology estimated an additional 70 homicides per year in Baltimore and 169 more homicides per year in Chicago, two other cities with de-prosecuting prosecutors. Electing prosecutors not to enforce the law was as crazy as it sounded.

Defund the Police: From the members of “The Squad” in Congress to city councils across the United States, a powerful political movement has emerged to defund police, based on the belief that law enforcement does more harm than good. Seattle tested this theory in 2020, when it declared a section of the city a “police-free zone” after protests related to the death of George Floyd. A sophisticated analysis by professors Eric Piza and Nathan Connealy determined that the lack of police led not only to an increase in violent crime in the police-free zone—an unsurprising result—but also to a spillover effect of crime in surrounding areas of Seattle. On a broader level, highly respected researchers Aaron Chalfin and Justin McCrary did a quantitative analysis demonstrating that, if anything, American cities are under-policed, and that adding more police would result in both net savings and reduced violent crime, especially murder. In raw statistical terms, adding ten police officers to a department prevents one homicide per year in that jurisdiction. A strong case can be made, in fact, that we are under-policed: the U.S. ranks in the bottom half of developed nations for the number of police officers per capita. Fortunately, the defund movement appears to be in retreat, as city residents see the dreadful results and politicians scramble to adjust.

A curious but notable trend is developing in the study of crime. Law school professors long have been the leading advocates for many of these progressive policies, but these legal academics have little practical experience and are not bound by any actual data, acting instead as an elite class of professional philosophers. However, a cohort of quantitative researchers is starting to look at the actual crime data and publish the results, which often reveal that these policies not only don’t work but also actively harm communities, particularly those with the poorest residents.”

  4. They don’t tell you the truth, because then you’d see this scam won’t work.

“10 Facts Electric Vehicle Advocates Don’t Want You to Know”

“There are a host of reasons why the Left is absolutely determined to force Americans out of their privately owned, gasoline-powered cars and trucks and into unreliable public transportation and costly Electric Vehicles (EVs), none of which have to do with “saving the environment.”

The central reason the Left loves EVs is that the process of forcing Americans to convert to electric-powered transportation will destroy forever the incredible freedom and prosperity associated with privately owned gas-powered vehicles. The future will instead be centrally controlled by rich elitists and their corrupt politicians, power-hungry bureaucrats, and ideologically driven “experts.””

“But those good things will be lost if California’s plan to ban the sale of all gas-powered vehicles by 2035 becomes national policy. There is so much that is so incredibly wrong-headed, if not either outright dishonest or stupid, with the drive to force Americans into EVs.

For example, as the experts at powerthefuture.com point out, here are 10 facts about EVs the Left doesn’t want Americans to know:

    1. EVs are powered by fossil fuels. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), fossil fuel-based power plants — coal, oil, or natural gas — create about 60% of the nation’s electrical grid, while nuclear power accounts for nearly 20%.

    2. The batteries of EVs rely on cobalt. An estimated 70% of the global supply of cobalt emanates from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country with deplorable working conditions, especially for children.

    3. A study released earlier this year by an environmental group showed that nearly one-third of San Francisco’s electric charging stations were non-functioning. The population of San Francisco represents roughly two percent of California.

    4. Supporters of the California law admit there will be a 40% increase in demand for electricity, adding further strain to the grid and requiring increased costs for power and infrastructure.

    5. According to one researcher, the strain of adding an EV is similar to adding “1 or 2 air conditioners” to your home, except an EV requires power year-round.

    6. Today, 20 million American families, or one in six, have fallen behind on their electric bills, the highest amount ever.

    7. Utility companies will need to add $5,800 in upgrades for every new EV for the next eight years in order to compensate for the demand for power. All customers will shoulder this cost.

    8. The average price for an electric vehicle is currently $66,000, up more than 13% in just the last year, costing an average of $18,000 more than the average combustible engine. Meanwhile, the median household income is $67,521. For African American families, the average is $45,870, and for Hispanic households, $55,321.

    9. A 2022 study found that the majority of EV charging occurs at home, leaving those who live in multi-family dwellings (apartments) at a real disadvantage for charging.

    10. The same study also noted that many drivers charge their EVs overnight when solar power is less available on the grid.”

  6. A victory for religious freedom and common decency.

“5th Circuit Rules Govt Cannot Punish Religious Hospitals for Refusing to Perform Abortions, Gender Transitions

    Religious freedom for the win.”

“The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the government cannot punish religious hospitals for refusing to perform abortions or any gender transitioning surgeries.

The plaintiffs were the Franciscan Alliance, Christian Medical and Dental Society, and Specialty Physicians of Illinois. They claimed the procedures violated their religious beliefs.

    From Reuters:

A unanimous panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday upheld a lower court’s permanent order shielding Christian Medical and Dental Associations and Specialty Physicians of Illinois, along with Catholic hospital system Franciscan Alliance Inc, from any enforcement action under the ACA’s anti-discrimination provision, known as Section 1557, for refusing to perform the procedures, which they say would violate their religious freedom.

Circuit Judge Don Willett, joined by Circuit Judges Jennifer Elrod and Kurt Engelhardt, rejected the government’s argument that the case should be dismissed as moot because the original rule challenged by the providers had been overturned. Willett wrote that the providers still faced harm because the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had “repeatedly refused to disavow enforcement” against them.

“In its brief on appeal, HHS simply says it ‘has not to date evaluated’ whether it will enforce Section 1557 against Franciscan Alliance — in other words, it concedes that it may,” he wrote.

    Therefore, the providers faced harm.

The plaintiffs sued in Wichita Falls, TX, “challenging an Obama-era HHS rule, which interpreted Section 1557 as requiring health care providers to perform abortions or gender reassignment surgery if they receive federal funding or participate in ACA exchanges.””

    One for the good guys.

  7. Of course he did.

When the idea is to run the same IRS scam nationwide against your political opponents, you need Deep Staters with the right experience.

“Biden Chooses Lois Lerner Associate to Oversee Massive Expansion of the IRS

“saw the agency target conservative and tea party affiliated groups as a political arm of the Obama-Biden administration””

“For the last week or so, lots of people have been talking about Biden’s decision to expand the IRS significantly.

Have you heard he is hiring a direct associate of Lois Lerner to help him do it?

That would be the same Lois Lerner who was at ground zero of the Obama IRS scandal, in which conservative groups were denied tax-free, non-profit status right before an election.

What could possibly go wrong this time?

    Spencer Brown reports at Townhall:

Of Course This Is Who Biden Picked to Lead ‘Centralized’ IRS for His Massive Expansion

As the Biden administration continues its attempts to consolidate power within the federal government and among its leftist allies, there’s a familiar face being tapped to lead Biden’s effort to surge power, resources, and agents to the IRS — and she has quite the track record of working to target conservative groups and organizations.

One of Lois Lerner’s lackeys from the Obama-era IRS scandal — one that saw the agency target conservative and tea party affiliated groups as a political arm of the Obama-Biden administration — will be leading the Biden administration’s expansion of the IRS and stated goal of hiring 87,000 new agents.

Nikole Flax, who most recently served as the deputy commissioner in charge of the IRS’ Large Business & International Division, has been with the IRS since 2008. According to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, Flax will be leading “the creation of a new, centralized office for implementation of all IRS-related provisions” outlined in the boondoggle falsely named the “Inflation Reduction Act.” There’s little Democrats love more than a chance to work on “centralized” anything within the federal government.

As unbelievable as that is, it’s not even the worst part. Here’s the part that will truly blow your mind…
As the Democrat Media Complex is defending the FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and advancing a narrative about Trump and supposedly classified documents, this person Biden is tapping to serve at the IRS allegedly had devices and documents that mysteriously disappeared after the IRS scandal broke.

Athena Thorne reports at PJ Media (emphasis is mine):

Obama-Era Tea Party Targeter Appointed to Create IRS Office Overseeing 87,000 New Agents

Nikole Flax worked under Lois Lerner in the Obama administration IRS while the agency infamously targeted conservative political organizations such as the Tea Party by slow-walking and suppressing their tax-exempt applications. She was also one of seven executives whose hard drives mysteriously self-destructed, preventing House investigators from viewing her emails. Now, the career IRS executive has been tapped to establish a new, centralized office in charge of implementing the Democrats’ latest tax and spending bill, including oversight of the 87,000 new IRS agents the bill authorizes.”

  8. This is why Dems love the scam that is Ranked Choice Voting.

“Baked Alaskan: 60% of voters cast ballots for Republicans. A Democrat won.”

“What happens when you combine an all-in or “jungle” primary with ranked-choice voting in the general election? Putting the two modern “innovations” on elections together in Alaska produced this absurd result, in which Republicans lost a House seat despite getting 60% of the vote.

And get ready for it to happen all over again in two months:”

Democrat Mary Peltola, a former state representative, will be the first Alaska Native in Congress after she won a special election that included GOP candidates Nick Begich and former Gov. Sarah Palin, NBC News projects.

Peltola, who is the executive director of the Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, served 10 years in the state Legislature and campaigned as “Alaska’s best shot at keeping an extremist from winning.”

“It is a GOOD DAY,” Peltola tweeted following the election results. “We’ve won tonight, but we’re still going to have to hold this seat in November.”

Given that the candidates will be the same, Peltola has a good chance of succeeding at it. This was a perfect storm of absurdity that produced an unrepresentative if still legally legitimate result. The problem here isn’t cheating — the result is legitimate. It’s the jury-rigged Alaska election system that’s absurd.

First off, Alaska has chosen to use all-in primaries instead of party primaries. Other states have adopted these as well, notably California, but they use those to narrow down the general election to a run-off between the top two vote-getters. Alaska puts the top four finishers on its general-election ballot, but requires a majority to win. Rather than use a subsequent runoff between the top two of the general election, Alaska requires voters to fill out second and third choices between the four candidates … and then goes through a ridiculous process to assign those ranked choices if one candidate doesn’t get 50% — which this system all but guarantees will happen. After several days of machinations, Alaska finally announces who won.

And in this case, the party that got 60% of the vote lost to the party that got 40% of the vote. Huh?

In the first round of voting, the results were 40.2 percent for Peltola, 31.3 percent for Palin, and 28.5 percent for Republican Nick Begich. Although 60 percent of Alaska voters cast ballots for GOP candidates as their first choice, under Alaska’s new ranked-choice-voting method, Begich was eliminated after the first round of voting and Begich votes that indicated a preferred second choice were allocated among Peltola and Palin.”

  9. “Leftists Want You to Shut Up About the Disaster They Are Provoking”

“Here’s something I bet you did not see coming either – Lindsey Graham was actually right about something, in this case when he warned the malicious morons of the left about the terrifying consequences of their desire to eliminate a political opponent by framing him in a jurisdiction that is 95% Democrat and where every juror either is, married to, or having a tacky fling with, a Biden administration Deputy Assistant Under-Secretary of Agriculture for Yam, Potato, and Brian Stelter Affairs.

Lindsey Graham – an Air Force colonel who served his country, unlike the vast majority of the Ukraine flag-waiving, freshly-minted patriots of the Twitter left – told Fox News that “there literally will be riots in the street…I worry about the country” if President Donald Trump is indicted on some bullSchiff charge by the fully-fascist minions of President Kiddie Showers. Let’s leave aside that just a few months ago mostly peaceful protests were a moral imperative that even took precedence over COVID lockdowns, a sacrament of the prog establishment ranking just below infanticide. And let’s also leave aside how, suddenly, classified information – in this case, held by the guy who could declassify it on a whim – is now illegal to mishandle again. Let’s just cut to the chase – this is yet another ploy to frame Trump after multiple failed attempts to frame Trump.

    We know it.

The people trying to frame him know it.

    And the left cheers it.

It is all so unbelievably dangerous.

This is a conspiracy to knock out one of Grandpa Badfinger’s political opponents, a shameless attempt to keep Americans voting on a candidate the establishment is terrified of that is accompanied by a symphony of caterwauling and croc tears about “Muh Democracy.”

Oh, it’s is about “Muh Democracy,” as in “Their Democracy.”

And the whining about Lindsey Graham pointing out the obvious, that this kind of banana republic shenanigan is destabilizing and threatens to provoke civil conflict, is designed for one purpose. That purpose is to place any discussion about the self-evidently foreseeable consequences of the regime’s litany of oppressions outside the range of permissible debate. Anyone with a glancing acquaintance with history – which excludes all the graduates of our allegedly prestigious universities (Tangent: Tax the endowments!) – understands that you cannot decide that half-the country, those “deplorables,” those “semi-fascists,” those “non-New Yorkers,” must be disenfranchised, then start doing it, and then expect them to just go along with it.

We just saw President Daddyshowers McDroolalot inform us that he’s going to set the F-15s on us uppity AR-packing patriots – right in time for the anniversary of his sorry behind getting chased out of Kabul by a much smaller number of degenerates with ancient AKs. But having him croak out this threat is part and parcel of the plan. Our garbage ruling class hates accountability and consequences for its misrule, so its solution to us pointing out the reality is to try to intimidate us into not speaking the truth about what lies down the road if they keep up doing what they are doing. Bravo Lindsey for telling it like it is despite their girlish moaning.

Pointing out the consequences of ruling caste’s trek to tyranny is not supporting or endorsing those consequences. It’s the opposite. Lindsey Graham is not cheering on riots. He’s warning of them. I had a similar experience with the invertebrate sissies of The Bulwark over my People’s Republic series of conservative action novels that warn about America divorcing into red and blue nations (Kelly Turnbull returns in Book VII, INFERNO, October 15, 2022, BTW!). Those simps claimed I was in favor of ripping the country apart even though only an idiot would take that away from the novels, and my new non-fiction book We’ll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America even has a whole chapter on why a national divorce is a terrible idea (and why Father-of the-Year Joe’s ideas about how a civil war might go are as dumb as his ideas about everything else). But their point was to shut me up on behalf of their pinko masters, just like the left wanted to shut Lindsey Graham up, and just like they want to shut you up.

But we won’t shut up. We can’t. Because these idiots, these corrupt morons, are the wrecking country they inherited. Remember, they did not build this country into the greatest nation in human history – they were handed it. And like most trust fund babies, they are unworthy of their inheritance. They are bunch of marginally cleaner-shaven Hunter Bidens squandering their legacy as they huff hits of ideological meth.

These are bad people, and stupid people, and most of these coddled popinjays have never taken or given a punch. They think that they can preserve their power, position, and prestige by leveraging the wrath of the government to threaten, imprison and even kill their fellow citizens who refuse to comply, and that they can use their kept media to inflict social sanctions to keep the normal behaving. But it is an illusion. It can work for a little while, but their undermining of the system is planting the seeds of their own destruction. After all, the institutions operate because of the consent of the governed. In the absence of earned loyalty, people obey only because of inertia, and when it becomes clear to the normals that the game is rigged, the people will stop playing.”

  14. Well you know it’s bad when they are coming after the Monkees…I mean come on!! And redaction isn’t something new for the FBI and DOJ even if you’re not the former President! 🙃 This is the beginning of the Monkeepox…..

The FBI has been issued a lawsuit by The Monkees’ only surviving member, Micky Dolenz, for any records that may involve him, his deceased band mates, or the band itself.

Dolenz, whose full name is George Michael Dolenz Jr., filed a civil motion against the Department of Justice, citing the Freedom of Information Act.

The Monkees’ were investigated by the FBI twice, once for alleged anti-Vietnam war activities in 1967 and another for which any information has been completely redacted
