  1. “Our Immigration System Isn’t Broken, Democrats Are”

    https://townhall.com/columnists/derekhunter/2022/05/01/our-immigration-system-isnt-broken-democrats-are-n2606579

“It’s religious dogma to the left: our immigration system is broken and the only fix is more cowbell. Ok, maybe not more cowbell, but a complete overhaul of the system – “comprehensive immigration reform” – which is code, or “dog whistle,” to put it in terms Democrats will understand, for amnesty. Sure, it would also involve a lot of other things progressives leftists admit we need to “fix” about the system, but without amnesty, they aren’t interested in any of it. Which goes to show you that, in fact, the immigration system is not broken, Democrats are.

Our immigration system worked just fine (not perfectly, mind you, but fine) until a few years ago. What happened then? Democrats decided to stop deportations in any real way.

Yes, Democrats had already screwed it up by introducing the concept of birthright citizenship – meaning anyone born here to illegal aliens was given citizenship, a concept so incredibly stupid it’s only been adopted by third world hell-holes and the United States, thanks to Democrats.

But the stopping of deportations made things exponentially worse. Sanctuary cities and states made it clear to would-be illegal aliens that the thousands of dollars they were thinking about dropping on the drug cartels to smuggle them or their children several thousand miles would not be in vain. The odds of them being returned to wherever they’re from if they made it to, say, California were slim to none, even if they committed heinous crimes, because California changed its laws to protect non-citizens over citizens. Kill a citizen and you might face deportation after a prison sentence, but rob a liquor store or drive drunk repeatedly, abuse a child or spouse? Meh, the chances the state bothers to call federal immigration authorities increases only slightly, but still don’t register in any real way.

Now more states and cities have gone even further. While not official policy, in practice if a rapist or child molester isn’t discovered by the media and reported on heavily, most blue states will do their best to make sure these perverts get to stay in the country. In fact, many cities and states, along with left-wing billionaires and the vanity organizations they fund (but are never impacted by because they live in gated communities with armed security, fly private, etc.) have set aside small fortunes to provide lawyers to any illegal aliens in the criminal justice system. Americans get public defenders if they can’t afford an attorney, illegals get organizations dedicated to ensuring their continued ability to thwart our laws.

At this point, allow me an aside. You hear this in the media constantly: migrants. Either illegal migrants or undocumented migrants, whatever. The people flooding over the southern border are NOT migrants. A migrant migrates, hence the name. They migrate with work; when the work ends in one place they move on to the next place. The illegal aliens who crossed to border each year to plant crops in the spring or pick them in the fall are migrants, they leave when the work is done.

The illegal aliens invading the country now have no intention of leaving, ever. They didn’t come here for seasonal work, they came here to live. They aren’t fleeing oppression or threats, they want a better life economically and all that goes with that. That’s perfectly understandable, but irrelevant since a desire for a better economic life is not an acceptable legal reason to grant anyone asylum. And the law has to matter.

So stop calling them migrants, especially the conservative media, they are illegal aliens. The left uses migrant to confuse the issue and control the discussion, stop letting them.”

  2. “The inhumanity of Biden’s border chaos

The death of an American hero”

    https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/apr/30/the-inhumanity-of-bidens-border-chaos/

“The human cost of the Biden administration’s disastrous immigration policy was once again on full display after a young national guardsman drowned trying to save migrants in the Rio Grande. National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans was a 22-year-old from Arlington who joined the Texas National Guard in 2019 and served in Iraq and Kuwait. His heroic actions must never be forgotten.

Shortly after Mr. Evans’ body was found last week, a troubling detail emerged: The two migrants who Mr. Evans tried to rescue turned out to be drug smugglers. This unfortunate episode emphasizes the broader inhumanity and insanity of President Biden’s self-created border crisis.

None of this had to happen. Mr. Biden inherited a border that had been brought under operational control by the actions taken by his predecessor in the summer of 2019. In May 2019, The New York Times stated that the border was at a “breaking point” after U.S. Customs and Border Protection tallied 76,000 apprehensions in a single month. The Trump administration responded by creating the successful Migrant Protection Protocols program and by striking novel asylum agreements with the northern triangle countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, whose nationals drove the spike in apprehensions.

Mr. Biden wasted no time unraveling successful policies that maintained control of the border, thereby inviting a wave of asylum-seeking illegal aliens. He campaigned on a promise to amnesty every illegal alien in the United States, no doubt incentivizing people to rush our border. Since taking office, apprehensions at the border have never dipped below 100,000 a month and spiked to more than 220,000 in March.

People are not the only thing coming across the border. Cartels — which profit from human smuggling — traffic enormous amounts of fentanyl and other illicit narcotics into the country. Between 2016 and 2020, fentanyl trafficking increased by 1,890% — and it only continues to grow. Communities across America feel the impact of drug trafficking. Overdose deaths reached a record high in 2021, with fentanyl overdoses becoming the number one cause of death among American adults aged 18-45. Mexico is the primary source of fentanyl in America. Powerful drug cartels manufacture the drug in Mexico before trafficking it across the southern border, often evading Border Patrol agents overwhelmed by the sheer number of asylum-seeking aliens who also cross the border.

The death and destruction wrought by the Biden administration’s elimination of immigration enforcement reverberate throughout the country, whether an overdose death in Maine or the drowning of Specialist Evans in Texas. Yet the Biden administration rejects any responsibility for the chaos at our border. When asked if the Biden administration felt responsible for Mr. Evans’ death, White House press secretary Jen Psaki deflected, saying that “the National Guard work for the states, so he is an employee of the Texas National Guard, and his efforts and his operation were directed by there [sic], not by the federal government.”

Of course, Ms. Psaki never bothered to ponder why Texas felt the need to deploy its National Guard in the first place. The Biden administration’s abandonment of immigration enforcement leaves border states like Texas holding the bag when Border Patrol releases hundreds of thousands of aliens into their states every month. Arizona attorney general Mark Brnovich even issued a legal opinion stating that the federal government is failing to protect the states against an invasion driven by drug cartels and criminal gangs.

It is clear and plain that the Biden administration’s refusal to enforce our country’s immigration laws has created an untenable, dangerous and tragic situation at our border. Mr. Evans is one of an untold number of Americans who lost their lives due to this administration’s failure to address the humanitarian and national security crisis at the southern border.

The administration claims that it is creating a “fair, orderly and humane” immigration system. This is a complete fantasy.”

At least some Republicans are speaking out about the idiocy…

“Republicans Slam Biden Plan to Divert VA Resources to Deal with Self-Inflicted Border Crisis
Sen. Ted Cruz: ‘This “is completely unacceptable.””

    https://legalinsurrection.com/2022/05/republicans-slam-biden-plan-to-divert-va-resources-to-deal-with-self-inflicted-border-crisis/

“During congressional hearings focused on the Biden border disaster, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas indicated that the Biden administration was considering diverting resources from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to help illegal immigrants if and when the Title 42 controls ended.

Title 42 expulsions are removals by the U.S. government of persons who have recently been in a country where a communicable disease was present. Biden has slated to end them on May 23.

Republicans are slamming the administration for this proposal.

…{S]everal representatives have sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas about the ‘mishandling’ of the border and called the possible usage of VA personnel at the border ‘deeply troubling’ as it is already hard for veterans to see doctors.

‘Moving VA medical staff away from our veteran’s healthcare needs to examine illegal immigrants is a recipe for disaster,’ the letter, written by Georgia Representative Jody Hice, said. ‘Wait times for a veteran to see their doctor can average 22 days and reach as high as 42 days. This is unacceptable mismanagement of federal government resources by the Biden administration.

‘Biden’s failed open border policies are no excuse to funnel resources away from our veterans. Our men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our liberties and our country’s sovereignty deserve the best resources for their health care needs.

‘The Biden Administration must provide the American people answers. Even the thought of abandoning our veterans’ care for the needs of illegal aliens is disgraceful.’

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, says he still hasn’t received an answer from Biden on these plans.

In his letter, Cruz urged the president “to secure our Southern border and immediately renew Title 42,” a public health authority that’s allowed federal agents to quickly expel illegal immigrants during a public health emergency. The Biden administration announced it was ending it May 23. Unless halted by the courts, border officials say ending Title 42 will result in roughly 18,000 people rushing the southern border a day, overwhelming Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement as a result.

“[T]he Department of Homeland Security has been considering potential strategies for dealing with the anticipated influx of migrants when CBP’s Title 42 authority is revoked,” Cruz said in a statement. “Reportedly, one such strategy, according to a source from within CBP, includes diverting VA medical personnel and deploying them to the border. The CBP source went on to say ‘[w]e’re going to take medical services away from people … [w]ho went to combat … to give free medical attention to illegal migrants.’”

This “is completely unacceptable,” Cruz said.
Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL) sent a letter yo Biden’s Veterans Affairs Secretary asking if any resources from the VA will be diverted from serving our nation’s veterans to deal with the crisis Biden has created on our southern border.

“We need to ensure that no money that was set aside to help our veterans is being diverted to the southern border,” Miller said. “VA resources should be used for our veterans, not to manage President Biden’s self-created crisis at the southern border. Instead of depriving our nation’s heroes of resources, the Biden administration should reinstate the effective border security policies of the Trump administration and complete construction of the border wall.”

These 3 representatives are among the many Americans outraged at this proposal.”

A nationwide experiment is abandoned after producing only misery.”

    https://foreignpolicy.com/2022/03/05/sri-lanka-organic-farming-crisis/

“Faced with a deepening economic and humanitarian crisis, Sri Lanka called off an ill-conceived national experiment in organic agriculture this winter. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa promised in his 2019 election campaign to transition the country’s farmers to organic agriculture over a period of 10 years. Last April, Rajapaksa’s government made good on that promise, imposing a nationwide ban on the importation and use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and ordering the country’s 2 million farmers to go organic.

The result was brutal and swift. Against claims that organic methods can produce comparable yields to conventional farming, domestic rice production fell 20 percent in just the first six months. Sri Lanka, long self-sufficient in rice production, has been forced to import $450 million worth of rice even as domestic prices for this staple of the national diet surged by around 50 percent. The ban also devastated the nation’s tea crop, its primary export and source of foreign exchange.”

    “Perverting “Civics”

    https://americanmind.org/salvo/perverting-civics/

“The Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress are infusing critical race theory (CRT), so-called anti-racist (in reality, profoundly racist) teachings, and other progressive ideologies into K-12 curricula. With forceful support from progressive states, there is a coordinated assault at all levels of our educational system to indoctrinate children and professionals in far-left anti-America rhetoric. If this effort succeeds—it is making spectacular progress—our country’s values and future are in jeopardy.

The advocates of CRT and related progressive principles have spent years planning and readying their takeover of our institutions. By dominating departments of education, accreditation agencies, university administrations, professional licensing organizations, and teacher unions, they have been able to mandate ideological training at each level of education, and then coerce compliance as a condition of employment, promotion, and appointment to governing boards.

Anyone who objects is shunned as a white supremacist, and suspended or terminated for insubordination or failure to comply with conditions of employment. The institution defends its suppression of academic freedom and free speech by pointing to its accreditation and licensing obligations, and the admission requirements of universities to which its students typically apply. While the Left may suffer an occasional setback in local elections or court, over time, this strategy will ensure the implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), which is the immediate goal of CRT.

The success and prospects for this intricate strategy deserve respect, and fear. If conservatives and moderates do not use every lawful lever of power remaining to break the progressive chokehold, there soon will be no place to turn. Even in red states, the national accrediting and licensing requirements will do devastating damage and perpetuate a cultural civil war.

Last year, the Biden Department of Education (DOE) issued its Proposed Priorities – American History and Civics Education for a new grant program. The guidelines call for “the development of culturally responsive teaching and learning” that benefits “underserved populations” as part of “the ongoing national reckoning with systemic racism [that has] highlighted the urgency of improving racial equity throughout our society, including in our education system.”

The DOE quotes Biden’s executive order requiring “an ambitious whole-of-government equity agenda,” and urges incorporation of the widely discredited, anti-white and anti-America 1619 Project and “anti-racist” practices. The DOE also expresses appreciation for Ibram X. Kendi, a leading “anti-racist” who advocates discrimination against whites as the remedy for past discrimination. Grant applicants are required to “take into account systemic marginalization, biases, inequities, and discriminatory policy and practice in American history.”

Majority leader Mitch McConnell and 38 other Republican senators wrote to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona expressing “grave concern” about the proposed focus on “divisive, radical, and historically-dubious buzzwords and propaganda.” The DOE’s response was to re-affirm the importance of “acknowledging the legacy of systemic inequity in this country.” Despite extensive comments to its proposal, the DOE granted $1,700,000, without making any changes. Cardenas conceded only that DOE would not “dictate or recommend specific curriculum.”

Separately, the Biden administration allocated nearly $200 billion of Covid 19 relief funds to schools. Explaining how the funds should be used, the Biden Administration’s ED Covid 19 Handbook, vol. 2 links to the Abolitionist Teacher Network’s Guide for Racial Justice and urges that the precepts in that Guide be “anchor tenets in building a schoolwide system of educational opportunity.” The Guide “embod[ies] the spirit of Black Lives Mattering” and among other extreme ideas, advocates “free, antiracist therapy for White educators” and “disrupt[ing] whiteness.”

There are now at least four bills before Congress proposing to expand federal funding for “civics.”

The Civics Secures Democracy Act (”Civics Act”) was introduced by three Democrats and two Republicans “to restore the importance placed on civics education in American classrooms with targeted federal investments to support and expand access to civics and history education” that meet the needs of the “traditionally underserved,” especially students in “rural and inner-city urban areas” and “underrepresented minorities.” The Civics Act appropriates nearly $600 billion over six years for DOE grants to schools and non-profit organizations for subjects, including “civics,” and “political thought,” and to “engage in American democratic practices as citizens and residents of the United States.” The bill defines “civics” to include the “acquisition of civic dispositions, values such as . . .tolerance and inclusion, and understanding perspectives that differ from one’s own as well as a disposition to be civically engaged.”

The Civics Learning Act of 2021, sponsored by 51 House Democrats, appropriates $30 million to expand education about how our government operates, and the “current state of affairs,” and to foster “participat[ion] in the political process.”

The Inspire to Serve Act, sponsored by eight Democrats and two Republicans, establishes a Council on Military, National, and Public Service, and appropriates not less than $100 billion to fund K-12 programs on “civic education and applied civics.”

The Promoting Programming, Research, Education and Preservation in Civics and Government Act, sponsored by 17 Democrats and five Republicans authorizes the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanity to make grants for civics education.

There should be no misunderstanding that in these bills, “civics” means progressive ideology, or that “participation” and “engagement” means protests. It is pathetic that any Republican would sponsor these bills, and that 12 Republicans did not sign Leader McConnell’s letter.”

    “The great American free-speech panic

Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter has revealed how terrified the elites are of freedom of speech.”

    https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/04/30/the-great-american-free-speech-panic/

“Freedom of speech is the ‘dread of tyrants’. That’s how Frederick Douglass, the American abolitionist, statesman and former slave, put it in his seminal 1860 speech, ‘A Plea for Freedom of Speech in Boston’ – taking aim at a racist mob who had shut down an abolitionist meeting and the authorities that had refused to protect it.

The battle lines in America’s free-speech wars are very different today, as of course are the stakes. ‘Slavery cannot tolerate free speech’, thundered Douglass. He saw open discussion as the means to liberation. Today, those who might consider themselves his heirs think you can censor your way to utopia. But one thing at least remains stubbornly the same: more than 160 years later, free speech still fills the American elites with dread.

What else could we conclude from the week-long meltdown over Elon Musk buying Twitter? The political and cultural elites have been gripped by panic. Human-rights groups are up in arms. Woke celebrities are threatening to flounce off the platform. All because Musk – a self-touting ‘free-speech absolutist’ – says he wants to pare back Twitter’s content-moderation policies, to ensure that Twitter functions as a freer ‘digital town square’.

The richest man in the world purchasing one of social media’s most consequential platforms is perhaps an unlikely blow for democracy. We at spiked would certainly rather the fate of free speech online didn’t rest on which billionaire happens to be in charge. But Musk’s takeover of Twitter has at least demonstrated that the rest of America’s ruling class – certainly those who run its institutions and its government – are united in terror at the prospect of people being able to hear and say what they like.

According to CNBC, members of President Biden’s inner circle, Democratic strategists and Barack Obama are worried Musk might lift the ban on Donald Trump and cause ‘misinformation’ to swirl ahead of the next election. White House press secretary Jen Psaki dodged a question about Musk this week, but did refer to the president’s ‘concerns about the power of social-media platforms, including Twitter and others, to spread misinformation’.

Here we see a neat demonstration of how the Democrats’ years-long moral panic about ‘misinformation’ maps rather neatly on to censoring their opponents. That had already been made clear with the Hunter Biden laptop scandal – the New York Post exposé that Twitter and Facebook labelled as misinformation and censored in the run-up to the 2020 election, but has since been backed up as true by other outlets.

The human-rights establishment is similarly shaken by the prospect of more free speech on the internet. Amnesty International USA has warned Twitter’s new boss not to ‘erode enforcement of the policies and mechanisms designed to protect users’, noting the ‘disturbing persistence of hate speech on Twitter’. Among the activist set, meanwhile, Musk has been smeared as a racist whose definition of free speech is ‘allow[ing] white nationalists to target / harass people’.

The American elites, whose forebears gave the world the First Amendment, have apparently decided that similar standards cannot possibly apply on the internet. That ‘hate speech’ should be censored on social media has become common sense among so-called liberals, even though it is impossible to censor in US law. Censorship of those deemed ‘hateful’ – a now bloated category which, according to Twitter’s current policies, includes those who ‘misgender’ – has been outsourced to the private sector, and the elites are worried that Twitter under Elon Musk might no longer oblige.

Indeed, Big Tech censorship was never about a few oligarchs deciding to inflict their views on everyone else. Jack Dorsey, the Twitter CEO who presided over Trump’s ban and many more besides, is a sort of hippy libertarian and has wholeheartedly endorsed Musk. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerburg resisted the role that was being foisted upon him – as digital Minister of Truth – for years before he eventually gave in. The pressure on them to censor came from within – from the sort of Silicon Valley workers currently apoplectic about Musk’s takeover – and from without – from Democrats threatening to break up or regulate the tech giants if they didn’t clamp down on ‘misinformation’ and ‘hate’.”

    Hillary’s and the media’s continue to unravel…

“Durham unmasks alliance between media, Democrat dirt diggers that triggered false Russia story

Court filings show plan to introduce evidence that Clinton campaign flooded media with “unverified derogatory information” on Trump.”

    https://justthenews.com/accountability/russia-and-ukraine-scandals/durham-unmasks-alliance-between-media-democrat-dirt

“Just days after Hillary Clinton emissaries Christopher Steele and Michael Sussmann approached the FBI in September 2016 with dirt that would infuse the Russia collusion probe, the campaign’s opposition research firm sent some of the same information to New York Times journalists.

“Gents good to see you yesterday,” a Fusion GPS executive wrote the reporters. “Sounded like you might be interested in some of the attached russia-related material. these are internal, open source research drafts, as agreed, pls treat this as background/not for attribution. as you’ll see it’s all easily replicated anyway.”

The invitation to further dirty up Donald Trump continued: “Can also send you a [name]/Toronto memo once i dig it out. I’m skipping over [name] and [company name]. believe your guys have done that up … leave it to you to distribute internally, or not, as you see fit. don’t believe sunny isles/hollywood or panama or toronto have been touched by brands xy or z. amazingly, don’t think anyone has done up the trump tower poker ring story either. pretty vivid color there.”

The missive is one of hundreds of emails that Special Counsel John Durham has obtained between Clinton campaign operatives and journalists that spread “unverified derogatory information” about Donald Trump, spawning the false Russia collusion narrative shortly before Election Day 2016. They’ve now been made public in court filings.”

    Click to access gov.uscourts.dcd_.235638.97.0.pdf

“Durham recently disclosed several communications with reporters in a filing designed to reject the Clinton campaign’s claim that its Steele dossier and other research should be shielded from public view at an upcoming trial because it was covered by attorney client privilege.

Durham’s argument is straightforward: Attorney-client privilege doesn’t apply to materials the campaign distributed widely to third parties.

But his filing also puts the traditional media on notice that when Sussmann’s trial on a charge of lying to the FBI begins next month, the unholy alliance between traditional media reporters and the Democrat machine will be laid bare for the world to see.

And it is clear prosecutors have a clear theory that much of the information spread and then reported by the news media was glaringly weak if not outright false. Durham’s filings refer to the Clinton opposition research alternately as a “red herring,” “unverified” “too obvious” to be true, or containing a “very weak link.” In some cases, those were words used by the very researchers helping assemble the materials.

Yet the traditional media reported it and re-reported it for nearly two years before Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded there was no evidence of a Trump-Russia conspiracy to hijack the 2016 election.

“One of the famous fake news outlets likes to say, ‘Democracy dies in darkness.’ They’re exactly right,” former Rep. Devin Nunes, the Republican House Intelligence Committee chairman who helped uravel the Russia collusion narrative, told Just the News. “They’re the ones who have created the darkness, and democracy does die. It just happens to be the fake news media that’s actually creating this.”

Kash Patel, Nunes’ former chief counsel on the committee, said traditional news media outlets are ignoring or downplaying much of the bombshell revelations in Durham’s filings because “the mainstream media, the fake news media, cannot stand how right we were and how wrong they are.”

Whatever the coverage, Durham’s filings make abundantly clear the Clinton campaign used the media to spread uncorroborated Russia allegations to dirty up Trump at the same time its emissaries were trying to get the FBI, the CIA and the State Department to investigate the same dirt.

The Clinton campaign and its opposition research team “triggered a sizeable outflow of unverified derogatory information into the media, the government, and the public,” Durham wrote in one filing.

In another he added: “The documents produced by Fusion GPS to date reflect hundreds of emails in which Fusion GPS employees shared raw, unverified, and uncorroborated information — including their own draft research and work product — with reporters. And they appear to have done so as part of a (largely successful) effort to trigger negative news stories about” Trump.

Durham said the flooding of the news media was so egregious that it obliterated any claim by the Clinton campaign that Fusion’s work was attorney-client privileged work designed to advise on libel issues.”
