Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks 2021 Week 14

It’s the week a lot of teams hope to play, but don’t get to. It’s Conference Championship weekend. It all starts Friday evening when the Conference USA gets it going. Pick your teams and see how well you do. I included the records for all the teams, overall and conference. But don’t let the numbers fool you. In college football anything can happen. (Rankings are the College Football Playoff rankings, not the AP rankings.)

So here they are, complete with a few editorial comments. Feel free to agree or disagree, just make sure to pick and post by 7:00 EST, Friday, December 3.

  1  Conference USA: Western Kentucky (8-4, 7-1) @ Texas – San Antonio (11-1, 7-1)

  2 PAC-12: #10 Oregon (10-2, 7-2) vs #17 Utah (9-3, 8-1)

  3 Big 12: #9 Baylor (10-2, 7-2) vs #5 Oklahoma State (11-1, 8-1) (should be ranked  higher than Alabama)

  4 MAC: Kent State (7-5, 6-2) vs Northern Illinois (8-4, 6-2)

  5 Mountain West: Utah State (9-3, 6-2) @ #19 San Diego State (11-1, 7-1)

  6 Sun Belt: Appalachian State (10-2, 7-1) @ #24 Louisiana (11-1, 8-0)

  7 American Athletic: #21 Houston (11-1, 8-0) @ #4 Cincinnati (12-0, 8-0) (should be ranked higher than Alabama)

  8 B1G 10: #2 Michigan (11-1, 8-1) vs #13 Iowa (10-2, 7-2)

  9 Atlantic Coast: #15 Pittsburgh vs #16 Wake Forest (both 10-2, 7-1)

10 Tiebreaker: Pick winner & final score: SEC: #1 Georgia (12-0) vs #3 Alabama (11-1) (should be #6 or #7 after almost losing to Auburn)

  6. If he piggy-backs, it would have to be mine for it to have my name in it. Otherwise it would be Mumsee’s Mess of Mistakes, or Janice’s Jumbled Jabberwocky.

  7. There were a couple of teams upset yesterday, so don’t be upset if you missed those games. (Isn’t English funny. Put the stress on one syllable and the word is a noun; on another and it’s a verb.) But one of us managed to predict one of those upsets, so that person wins! The game was the PAC-12 championship in which Utah demolished Oregon. So the participant from North of Utah wins this round.

    ATTA GIRL, Mumsee!

    Results:
    Mumsee 6
    Peter and AJ 5
    Janice and Kevin 4

PS- None of us got the tiebreaker game winner in which Alabama showed why it should become a pro team.

  8. Here are some overall numbers:
    Most correct predictions- Peter 82*
    Most wins- Mumsee 4*
Most correct one week- 9, Kevin Week 3; Mumsee Week 9

Shall we do the bowl games?

*There were several weeks where the tiebreaker game score decided the winner. I had 4 of those and didn’t win any of those.

  9. A bowl game is another chance for a college football team to earn extra money. Most of them are meaningless, but now they have a few that lead to the championship. There used be be some prestige, but now a mediocre team can get a bowl bid. All they need is 6 wins.
