There is a little bird hidden behind the green stems.
I realize I am close to “burnout” from the year in real estate. It has been a good year financially, and it is still less stress than working with Guy, but I am done in.
I have 27 days until we go out of the country and hopefully I get to unplug from all of it. Right now, I don’t want to deal with any of it. I have one agent being bullied by an agent at another company, “I have been doing real estate for years and I know what I am talking about”-then slams the phone down. Problem is that agent doesn’t know what she is talking about. Now I have to call her broker today. Then two of my agents are squaring off with each other. When the first one called to tell me the situation she didn’t tell me the agent on the other side was one of mine. My advice is different if it is an inside agent rather than an outside agent, only this time I told the first agent to give some grace and accept email notification. Then the second agent called me.
In the middle of all of this, I had to deal with a home inspection. Today is the last day. The home was built in 1950. The home inspector has recommended that a chimney inspector inspect the chimney. It’s capped because it was converted to gas instead of wood. The seals on the window are compromised and the window is fogged. They want all the windows replaced. The electrical wiring is not grounded so they want the house rewired. They also want to roof replaced. They want the seller’s to pay for these inspections and to get the quotes. I tried to explain that falls on our side as due diligence. This is the man who is in a wheelchair and this was the only house suitable for them. They are in another state.
So this morning I will drive to Pensacola to do a FaceTime walk through showing of a house the man is probably not going to buy but I told him I would. Then I am driving to Atmore to do a FaceTime walk through of the house that we have under contract. By the time I get home this afternoon I will probably have driven about 200 miles.
On top of all of this Sunday night at 11:59 Florida switches to an update residential purchase agreement that no one understands.
I’m just tired.
I am glad you have something to look forward to, Kim.
I have one of the doll houses my mom made on the top of an old Singer treadle stand. My husband made a shelf for it to stand on. The machine I got was not one of these, but more modern. Not sure it was even worth getting. It made someone happy to do so, however. In the midst of some sad extended family drama, that is a positive. I am glad we have heaven to look forward to myself.
What are some of your favorite appetizers or canapes? I have to bring something on Saturday. I will bring some cookies or bars, but want to bring something else.
Morning! I’m plum worn out just reading what lies ahead in your day Kim! Praying the strength of our Lord sustains you!
I wasn’t certain what I was looking at up there in the photo…a bird..but is he doing something or just trying to remain unnoticed?
My favorite appetizer is tomato mozzarella bruschetta…easy to make simple to eat and oh so tasty 😊
We have a couple inches of snow on the ground…it appears it caused some headaches for drivers last evening. A pile up a couple roads over from us. Seems the road crew didn’t get the email that weather was moving in!
1 larger can of Swanson or comparable canned chicken breast
1 8oz package of cream cheese (softened)
1 clove garlic minced
1/2 or more of chopped walnuts
a dash of Worcestershire
about a tablespoon of mayonnaise
Dill weed – use a good guesstimate
Put everything but the chicken and walnuts in a food processor and give it a good whirl, then add chicken, pulse a couple of times to mix then add chopped walnuts and pulse another time or two to mix.
Chill for a couple of hours then serve with crackers. No one knows quite what it is, but they like it.
I got it out of a cookbook years ago but it was the only thing I made from it so I got rid of the cookbook and this is how I make it now. I have made it so much that I can’t really give you good measurements. You pretty much can’t ruin it.
Those sound wonderful, Nancy Jill. I do love the tomato, basil and mozzie skewers, too. The bruschetta isn’t something I think of making ahead and bringing, however. Is it served cold?
Kathaleena – Maybe a cheese board? Nightingale enjoys putting one together now and then. A brief Google search says that the basic cheese board includes:
“Cheese! …
Charcuterie. …
Something briny! …
Crackers and / or good bread, like a baguette.
Dried or fresh fruit.
Nuts, of course.
Ideally, we like to finish it off with a few spreads—like jam or a fancy mustard—or even just a little honey.”
Nightingale has also included pieces of dark chocolate on a couple of hers.
When my parents used to entertain, one of my mom’s favorites was a clam dip (made with cream cheese, possibly similar to Kim’s recipe with the chicken) with small roundish slices of rye bread.
The bread came in a long, clear package, and was, I think, about 2″ by 1 1/2″ – something like that. But nice crackers could work, too.
Some appetizers I have enjoyed in the past were stuffed mushroom caps, a port wine cheese ball that was covered in nuts and served with crackers, and a smoked salmon ball/mound similar to the cheese ball and served with crackers.
It’s supply-chain Wednesday in my world, with a City Council action and port virtual news conference to cover. I’ll be so glad when this story starts to die down — but it won’t be very soon, I’m afraid.
Kim, your day sounds exhausting to me, too.
Real Estate Guy is mostly retired but even he’s been busy with this market.
Hot water heater got re-lit late yesterday; the regular house heater is cranking this morning.
Let’s hope both can stay working simultaneously. (Real Estate Guy thinks it was the wind that probably blew the hot water heater pilot out the other day when we got our one-day rain “event” for this entire season).
We are working our way through the book. Learning about the treatment of the Japanese in Idaho during WW2. And washington, and the west coast and the country and how they performed in the segregated unit.
Mumsee, I hope you feel better and the blood pressure calms down. I don’t rule out that the jab could have an effect like that, but if it does, I expect it should wear off.
You might want to consider checking your blood sugar because diabetes can cause high blood pressure. As for me, I eat a lot of celery to help control blood sugar, and cinnamon helps, too.
Mumsee, I copied this from the web:
“Celery contains a phytochemical called phthalides. As an extract, it’s called NBP, and it relaxes the tissues of the artery walls to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure. Eating the whole food, though, is better.Dec 9, 2020
Also, just because blood pressure spikes or is high or low one day or another doesn’t mean you have a high blood pressure “condition.” BP spikes for all kinds of reasons which is why a diagnosis isn’t usually made before someone is tested regularly, off and on, at different times and on different days, to get an accurate baseline reading.
I’m overwhelmed today, trying to survive the ship backups and the really big mess it’s all causing, especially as it makes its way through the political chain.
I’m juggling news releases, live meetings and questions that need answering by folks who are probably too busy right now to get to it. All while trying to stay on track with all these dog meds I need to dole out every day …
I’ve found the new blue pill of Tess thrown up in the patio twice now. They’re too expensive for that.
And what does it mean when your house thumps and shakes, the lights go off but then back on again?
And,, yes, DJ, which is why nurse daughter and I were surprised when the NP put me on a moderately high dose (I talked her down) after just one reading.
wow, exciting on here. My leg was aching in the night. My eye isn’t working too well. Oh, this getting old. But I can still teach. I was so tired at our outdoor staff meeting after school. I thought about just leaving. Came home for a nap afterwards. We had a prayer time at 5 in an outdoor haus win, but I took a nap instead.
Today is my aide’s birthday. I have a pack of cookies at school for the class. A chocolate cake ready to take for her to take home to celebrate with her family. And the cheesecake for staff birthdays.
Still haven’t heard what is happening with our covid restrictions. We are all waiting to hear, but still carry on.
Husband has the karate kickers off to their appointed hour. I am celebrating feeling unwell by baking cookies. Probably not my best choice. But life, be in it.
I have been editing a story to submit for a compilation book. Working through critique group suggestions can get quite interesting, especially when the suggestions contradict each other.
I turned on the heat when it was 60°and my fingers were too cold to use the keyboard. Of course, adding Miss Bosley in the mix adds a whole new dimension to editing a story. This week I found claw marks on the cover of my leather super giant print Bible. I did not catch her in the act so it would be in vain to get after her about it. God’s Word has survived much worse.
I am trying to not bake sweets. The weather is perfect for that activity. It would be nice to have a treat during the Braves game if Art is brave enough to watch it.
Waiting for the final “clear” on my port story then I’m done for another day.
Dogs have been fed (their main meal); I’m mixing some thin-sliced chuck steak in with their feedings lately, especially Cowboy needs to be more enticed and that steak does the trick.
We all have to also read and vote on a youth scary story contest we’re running — I think I have to do that by tomorrow.
And I’m doing this year’s stories on the annual holiday youth ball drive we sponsor each year as the last reporter who did that left a couple months ago.
We apparently had a very warm day today but I was only out on the porch once — we got up 79 degrees today with 84 forecast for Thursday. It goes back down to the 60s by Saturday.
Kizzie, I love charcuterie boards, too. Others are bringing items, too, so we will have a variety. One man always brings wonderful homemade ice cream. This time it may be blueberry. I may make some maple cookies to go with that and some spiced nuts. Still thinking about it.
Art turned on the game for a moment and quickly switched to Hallmark Christmas movies. I pretended to be Santa with a big deep voiced “Ho, Ho, Ho!” Miss Bosley was shocked. It was better than watching the gamef and saying, “Oh, No, No, No!”

I have had bruschetta hot and cold. Some leave out the mozzarella for the cold but I prefer that to remain…kind of like eating cold/room temp pizza 😊

From a friend’s Facebook post, for Chas:
“Drinking from My Saucer
by John Paul Moore
I’ve never made a fortune and it’s probably too late now.
But I don’t worry about that much, I’m happy anyhow.
And as I go along life’s way, I’m reaping better than I sowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
I don’t have a lot of riches, and sometimes the going’s tough.
But I’ve got loved ones around me, and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for his blessings, and the mercies He’s bestowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ’Cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped through again.
So God, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I’ve hoed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough.
I’ll not ask for other blessings, I’m already blessed enough.
And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.
Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
