  3. oh, we were concerned that you were lost in the past. Nice to see you on today, even if I am commenting from the end of the day. Time to get some sleep.
    In other news, I lost part of a tooth today and our dentist is leaving. So I need to take an incountry trip to go to the dentist once school is out. There is a good national dentist a couple of hours away who used to work here. So, I just need to find a way to get there.

  12. Our power was out for less than an hour I think. When I was a child it could be out for a few days, which was terrible in the winter time. We seldom have outages here. Sometimes there are planned ones, but those are very short, sometimes a few minutes. What a blessing electricity is! How we can take it for granted just like so many other things.

  13. I’ve been stuck in some never-ending Mondays.

    I’m back at work in about an hour from now after a needed 4-day weekend. I had a restless night, woke up around 4 a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I read for a while, then drifted off probably around 5:30, waking up about 2 hours later.

    Tomorrow will be a busy day that starts early with an 8 a.m. vet appt for Cowboy, which means being on the road no later than 7 a.m. since rush hour traffic seems to be back; then an extra long staff call, an hourlong phone conference with a guest speaker booked by our new and eager “diversity” committee, don’t ask. The screen guy also comes tomorrow at around 1 to re-screen that one bedroom window screen but that shouldn’t take long nor should it involve me much other than to pay him when he’s done, all the work will be done outside either on the porch or in his truck.

    Our temps will be cooling off for the rest of this week thankfully. Not that it’s been hot exactly, but too warm for my tastes (mid-80s in Hollywood yesterday, probably about 80 here through the afternoon before I got home as the house was warm when i got home).

    I hope that broken tooth is an easy fix, Jo. What’s a “national” dentist?

  21. Kizzie- I ordered one last May that didn’t arrive until October because of the COVID shutdown. I haven’t had a chance to use it, other than trying it out. The idea sounds good on paper, though, unless you’re in a very humid area.

  28. I saw an ad for those A/Cs and am very interested in looking into them.

    I’m swamped with work, how much longer can I do this?? Ugh.

    Low-NOX trucks, the sale of our community’s Catholic retirement home and I’ll have to do a story on water taxis on Friday that includes a “ride.” I lean toward getting sea sick and have had some unpleasant experiences on past whale watch stories I’ve had to cover. This should be calmer, shoreline waters and (I’m told) a shot ride).

  32. My parents and I have the care of the little ones while their mother visits the midwives. My father took them outside for exercise and fresh air. The two of them would live outside if they could. Tiny loves swinging while listening to audiobooks. Sixth loves playing with his trucks in the dirt. Maybe a bit too much. When they finally came in, my mother called me into the bathroom. Sixth was standing on a stool by the sink, his face and arms coated with dirt. Between the two of us, we managed to get him reasonably clean.

  35. The subject of anxiety had come up recently (perhaps because I had mentioned the anxiety I was feeling), and it had me thinking that there seem to be at least a couple different kinds of anxiety. Or we use the same word for two different situations.

    There is the kind which I recently described as “worry-on-steroids”, which I think is the kind that the Bible mentions when it tells us to “be anxious for nothing” and to pray about everything. But there is also a kind of anxiety that can have a deeper mental or emotional source, or even a physical origin, in which case other (added) help may be needed. Christians with that kind of anxiety can end up feeling guilty or hopeless when casting their burdens on God in prayer doesn’t seem to help.

    A minister from the past had written about how he had had no sympathy for Christians with “nervous conditions”, since he believed that they were not trusting God enough. So guess what? He ended up with some kind of “nervous condition” himself which he couldn’t merely pray away, and then he had much more compassion for others in the same situation.

    So it seems that we use the word anxiety to mean a form of worry, but it is also used for something deeper and not as “easy” to combat. (Although God can heal that kind in response to prayer, too, if He so wills.)

  37. Michelle, do you do a launch team to get reviews for audiobooks? You could join one of the group launch parties although maybe that is more for fiction books? Or maybe you could somehow do a launch party on one or more Christian radio stations since it is audio?

  38. From some reviews I found, those portable ACs are not that great. Some say that they are pretty much a “swamp cooler”, and that they would not be good for humid climates, as Peter mentioned, as they put humidity into the air. No, thank you! We get enough humidity.

  39. Interesting thoughts during troubled times — from a daily Bible reading post on FB:

    ~ Even though there are some who would feel honour bound to expose themselves to an approaching comet, sometimes God’s people are advised to take cover:

    “Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by.” (Isaiah 26:20 NIV11)

    Or as Proverbs has it:

    “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.” (Proverbs 27:12 ESV)

    The whole Bible must be consulted when developing a game plan for how to live wisely and faithfully in troubled times.

  43. Annie finally had enough of Tess bullying her and took a swat at her tonight. Tess was adequately freaked out and has left her alone ever since. I don’t think contact was even made, but it was close enough apparently.

    Annie’s keeping a close watch, her ears are still slightly down and she’s sitting in a hunched up lump on the dining chair cushion.
