Remember the movie “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies”? That came out sometime when I was a kid, it’s probably where I developed a yearning to get a big shaggy dog someday.
🙂 I forgot to mention in all the princess and horse excitement yesterday, that I was nearly hit by a car prior to that on a busy, narrow road.
We walk that way very carefully, routinely, but there is no sidewalk or shoulder. When cars come zooming down the road, I always stop and step 2 feet or so into the bushes.
This car, for some reason, saw me and veered in my direction, the tires actually hitting the white line about a foot from me.
It almost clipped me.
But, it didn’t happen and I moved on into my magical walk.
The intersection just down from my house (13th & Patton, Michelle will know it) is busy and has a 4-way stop (used to be just 2-way, the other stops were added maybe 3 years ago or so to make it safer as 13th is such a fast-moving cut-through west-to-east in town).
It’s one of the streets we cross each night when I’m walking the dogs and I always wait on the corner (it can be a bit of a long wait) as I’ve seen more than a few cars just blow through those stop signs.
None of us are moving all that fast or nimbly these days so I’d rather the coast were completely clear before we head across.
😦 Yet another family this week said they were leaving the state. We’ve lost so many in the past year, everyone’s heading north/east/south, somewhere, anywhere, out of Dodge
🙂 I got my second dose of the vaccine on Friday. (Have I mentioned that already?) Yesterday I had some achiness and was very tired, and my arm hurt a bit from the shot, but other than that, I was fine.
😦 A difficult conversation with Nightingale on Friday night, as we talked about some things going on that are very discouraging and difficult, and may be so for many years. (A lot of it had to do with all the very expensive repairs needed in this house, and financial matters in general.) As I mentioned on the prayer thread that night, she was in tears, and she rarely cries in front of me.
😦 Feeling quite overwhelmed with what I wrote above and the situation with Chickadee.
🙂 Nightingale had perked up by Saturday morning, and seems to have had a nice weekend.
Kizzie, glad you got the vaccines all done. California is still doing well, it’s thought that enough people have been vaccinated that — combined with those who have had and survived the virus and have some immunity as well — we may be closing in on that elusive “herd immunity.” The jury is still out, some of us will believe it when we see it as a month or two or more go by. But thankfully this virus may be medically beatable enough that we can breathe more easily going forward. What a year.
Nightingale sounds resilient, and that’s such a good disposition and attitude to have. Gets us through so much.
DJ – Connecticut is gradually opening up. Some restrictions on restaurants have been eased as of yesterday. May 19 is supposed to be the day we can go close to back to normal. Not sure which restrictions will remain. But it feels like we can breathe again.
Michigan’s April spike in cases was as high as the holiday peak two weeks ago. Since then it’s fallen a lot but is still much higher than about four times what it was in March.
Our county was even worse, with a much higher peak than any previous, but now down to less than half of the peak.
The governor has been less dictatorial about restrictions. She says we don’t need them since vaccination should bring the cases down. I think she’d be more aggressive anyway if the state Supreme Court hadn’t put the kibosh on one of the emergency powers laws she was relying on to be a dictator.
Michelle, that is scary, and it’s why in addition to my phone, my “hiking pants” have my drivers license and insurance card in one pocket. I wonder if the car drove toward you because the driver panicked and looked at you–and we tend to steer toward what we are looking at?
One of the blessings of this move is that before it, walking near home meant walking on a country road without a sidewalk and with no real shoulder. Though it wasn’t heavily traveled, people drove 40-50 on it, and there were spots without the best visibility. So it meant being super vigilant, especially in those spots. It is so, so nice to trade that for lower speed limits and sidewalks (usually sidewalks on both sides of the street). That the walks have more points of interest along them is another big plus.

🙂 My adult daughter KJ got her second Covid shot this week, so we are now a fully vaccinated household. We may start venturing out a little more now.
🙂 Mowed the lawn and pulled “all” the dandelions in front yesterday before any of them had turned into seed puffs.
😦 Looked out the window this morning to see all the dandelions that weren’t there yesterday.

Yes (6:19). Breathing is good.
We’re set to reopen by mid-June — sometime this week, if our numbers hold and continue to drop, we should move into the least-restrictive state “tier”
Masks are still protocol for stores and businesses, but I’m back to feeling free to remove mine once I’m back in the parking lot walking to the car.
