Prayer Requests 9-9-20

It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget Ajissun and the folks in The Gambia.

Anyone else?

Psalm 34

Of David.

I will extol the Lord at all times;
    his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
    let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
    I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
    and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
    and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good;
    seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are attentive to their cry;
16 but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
    to blot out their name from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
    he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 The righteous person may have many troubles,
    but the Lord delivers him from them all;
20 he protects all his bones,
    not one of them will be broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked;
    the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
22 The Lord will rescue his servants;
    no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

  1. I’m involved with a group that is asking us to fast twice a week and pray in the run up to the election. On October 13, they’re asking us to do a water fast for the three weeks leading up to the election.

    I’ve managed the twice a week fast so far but will not be able to do a water fast–my health won’t allow for it and even twice a week is tricky.

    However, I’m seriously thinking of doing a three-week social media fast. That will be tough, but it also may preserve my soul. I can’t decide, however, if WV is social media or not.

  2. Michelle – I guess “technically” it could be considered social media, but we are not the same as many of the contentious folks on Facebook or Twitter. Maybe just stick to the prayer and daily threads, and eschew that politics threads?

  3. My church Bible study group committed today to pray more for our nation. We studied in Daniel 9 where Daniel offers a wonderful prayer in which he humbles himself as being part of the problem. We discussed how we need to not be so judgemental spending time talking about who we think created the problems but to simply pray more. The Bible study leader struggled with Daniel including himself in asking forgiveness when she did not think he had sinned. I pointed out that his was not a sin of commission but of ommission in that he like anyone could always do more.

  4. Prayer for an extra measure of strength and wisdom for me in the next few days. In an increasingly busy time, I am working four days, will be on call for a night and taking on a student. I do not have the energy to accomplish all that.

  5. Roscuro – Praying for energy to spare.

    Janice – I think there are other places, too, where a prophet or priest prayed for forgiveness and such using “we/us” rather than “they/them”. I do that, too, when praying for our nation or similar matters, in identification with the others.

  6. We are both individuals and part of the corporate body. We definitely get counted in with the corporate sin, but I think we also are never perfect in our individual doings by either commission or omission so if is always appropriate to be humble and ask for forgiveness.

  7. Prayer for me as I continue in physical therapy, they’re working now on my hip/pelvic alignment (which can affect the knee) but it’s causing some pretty sore muscles afterward; the goal is to stabilize the walking but the new soreness is working against that almost, though I realize it’s temporary. I believe we’re in the final stretch for PT, however, so I may be done at the end of this month, we will see. I kind of hate to lose the twice-weekly connection and am very grateful for the therapist and all the help he’s provided, it’s been a long haul, but have to say also I’m growing weary of the routine; I’m just hoping all is well with the knee going forward, but will have to see.

  8. For most of the summer, I was limping slowly from my car to the elevator and down the long outdoor corridor to get to the therapists’ office (and when I had that initial setback early on, I had to use a walking stick to hobble into the office, the therapist looked stunned and said, “What happened??”).

    Now I am walking (almost) normally, which is really amazing to me.
